*Ember* We walk into the infirmary, and the healer on duty, an older woman with graying dark hair, has her back to us. She’s placing a bandage on another guy’s knee. I think I recognize him from training, though he’s not in my group. I think he’s in Mikey’s group, the lowest group, which probably explains why he’s here. She hears us come in but doesn’t turn around. “I’ll be right with you,” she says. Then, to the kid sitting on the cot, she says, “Ice every hour for ten minutes. Keep it elevated. It should heal by tomorrow.” She reaches into a nearby refrigerator, pulls out an ice bag, and hands it to him. “Be more careful, Cedrick. This is the third time you’ve been in here, and this is only week two.” “Yes, Nurse Kelly,” he says. He gets up and limps away. She sighs and turns around
