Oh man and holy s**t. How did I not know you were loaded Sam? Morgan looks down the hallway to see Jessica. He smirks because she is looking around at everyone and has the meanest look on her face. I can’t believe Sara left me a letter. Allison comes down the hallway towards Morgan. “Hey Morgan, did you make your decision?” Looking down the hall at Jessica and she looked at him and he felt a click. Yes, I have. And the answer is yes, but I still need another minute and I want to ask her if she is okay with it. “Okay, but we will need to get the paperwork started as soon as possible so that state doesn’t try to take her.” Allison walks down the hallway.
Jessica
I can’t take this anymore. Ugh! I yell for Morgan. He looks at me from down the hallway and comes towards me. What is going on? I know my dad has been shot, but no one is telling me anything. The room of law enforcement goes quiet. Morgan drops down one knee to be at eye level with Jessica. “Jessica your dad didn’t make it.” What? You’re lying. That’s impossible. I am totally freaking out, scared, and angry, all at the same time. “Jessica.” Shut up Morgan. Jessica sucker punches Morgan in the face. The room of people let out the inevitable ooohs. Morgan stands up and takes the hits as he tries to hug her. I want to see him. I want to see my dad for myself. “Jessica, I don’t think that is a good idea.” Morgan looks around for help in this battle of stubbornness from a five-year-old. “(Sigh) let’s go find the doctor). Finally, someone listens to me. “Allison, will you come with us?”
I can’t believe my dad is gone. I look at his wounds and it looks like exactly where I was hurting earlier after I jumped off the swing which is weird. I look across to see Morgan and Allison looking at me with weird looks on their faces. I want to go home now. Who is going to take me? Morgan and Allison look at one another. “Well, Jessica, umm, your dad wants you to live with Morgan.” What? “Yeah, when you were born, your mom and dad made a will and asked me to take care of you if something were to happen to them. If you don’t believe me, I have a letter from your dad right here.” Uh oh. Does this mean I’m an orphan now? I don’t even know about other family people. Fine, I just want to go to sleep. “Okay, let’s go back to my ranch and get you settled.” Ugh.
I am just sleepy and don’t want to argue. I look out the window while Morgan drives. He has a pretty cool truck and I’ve been to his house before, so I know where to go. This ride is really quiet and boring. Its dark outside and all I see is trees. Jessica falls asleep in the truck.
