Hangout

Surprisingly, all of my Monday classes went by like a breeze, and by the time Myra's and my last class ended, Noah was waiting for us outside the school gates...and Myra called it. With Lily. "Hey guys," I greeted both of them, earning a smile from Noah and a scowl from Lily. "Myra's coming, she went to the bathroom," I said as the three of us waited for her. It was only Noah and I talking, he had his arm around her shoulder. His fingers playing with a few of her hair strands. Lily didn't bother with any input, instead just tightening her grip on Noah whenever I inched closer, whether it be by accident or just because I had to get some dirt off my shoulder. Which was weird...but I didn't ask. Another few minutes passed before Myra finally made it. "I asked Mikael to come along, if that's okay?" she asked. Before I could respond, Noah beat me to it. "Who's Mikael? We don't have any students named Mikael," he asked Myra curiously. "Oh! I completely forgot to tell you. He's my boyfriend," Myra said with a giddy smile. "It's been quite some time since we were able to meet up, so I'm a bit excited, unless, obviously, you guys don't want him to tag along? He's great company, I swear!" "He is." I said, defending Myra's statement. Noah only smiled and nodded, while Lily only rolled her eyes. "Im fine wit-" "Great!" Myra squealed before letting Noah finish. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We ended up hanging out by a nearby beach. It was a beautiful day, sunny with clear skies. Mikael met up with us by the beach. Myra had run into his arms, he immediately caught her and spun her off the ground as they both giggled. I smiled. They both looked so in love... I turned to look at Noah and Lily. Even they looked in love, with Noah's arms tight around Lily's waist as he rested his chin on her shoulder. Lily was taking pictures. No matter how much we hated each other, I had to admit that they both looked good together. Both couples did. Gosh, it felt like I was third wheeling a double date. It made my want for love increase. I sat alone on the sand while both couples had fun together. It felt like a knife digging a deeper hole in my heart. I knew I sounded desperate, but how can I not when I've never had a boyfriend before? I watched as Myra and Mikael were in the water, splashing each other and having the time of their lives. Noah and Lily had bought ice creams and were now sitting on sunbeds. I sighed. Again. I know, I sigh alot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Noah's POV I just bought Lily her ice cream. She was acting weird. Initially, she was supposed to have a hangout with her friends, but she asked to tag along. I couldn't say no or else she'd go on her rants about how bad of a boyfriend I was. I did not need to deal with that. I looked around and saw Myra and her boyfriend in the water...it looked like they were having fun. "Babe, wanna go into the water? It would be fun," I asked Lily with a hint of hope in my tone. She turned to me and looked me up and down. I had taken my shirt off and was now only in boxer shorts, sunglasses and slightly tousled brown hair. I knew I looked good. I was fit with a lean body and strong build. But the way she was looking at me made me self-conscious. I grabbed a nearby towel and draped it over my shoulders, covering up nearly half my body. "What?" I asked her. "Nothing. I wish I had a hotter boyfriend," she said, the words striking a chord within me. It hurt in ways I don't even know how to describe. She's been saying stuff like that for a year now. At first, I thought it was just a joke, but now... I don't think it's a joke anymore. "Lily, that's not nice to say," I said, trying to keep the hurt from my voice. "Whatever. And no, I don't want to go into the water. I just got a perm," she said dismissively, to which I could nod. I finished my ice cream and looked around while Lily continued texting on her phone before my gaze landed on Aaliyah. She was sitting on the sand, all alone. I didn't like that, so I got up and walked up to her, sitting beside her. She had changed out of the school uniform and was now in a yellow floral sundress that made her look much more...relaxed and calm. Her tan skin was glowing from the sun, she had put her black hair into an up do that made her neck look much slimmer and curvaceous. I snapped out of the daze and cleared my throat. She raised her eyes to look at me. "Why're you all alone? Go mingle. I've seen quite a pack of guys over there," I said cheekily as I pointed towards a group of volleyball dudes. She looked that way and shook her head. "Not my type," she said. She sounded...upset. "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, softening my tone gently. She shook her head and I didn't pry. It was her problem. Not mine. She'd tell me if she wanted to. So, instead of making her more upset, I got up and went back to the ice cream stand. I remember her telling me her favorite ice cream flavor was mango. It suited her in some ways. Bright..cheery and sweet..wait what? I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts, I bought a mango ice cream cone with some sprinkles as toppings and walked back to her, sitting down and handing her the ice cream. "Here," I said She looked at the ice cream cone in mild surprise before she looked at me. "What?" She asked. Why did she look surprised? "Ice cream. I remembered your favorite flavor and ice cream usually cheers me up, so I thought it would cheer you up too," I said. She looked at me before she smiled. It was a subtle, barey-there smile, but I caught it. She should smile more often, it made her look... snap out of it, I told myself, as I forced myself to not think about Aaliyah in that way. I had a girlfriend. She took the cone from my hands and started to lick it. "Thank you," she said. I only smiled in response. "We don't need upset people around this hangout," I said, even though Lily's previous words still resonated within me. What I didn't realize was that Lily had seen the whole interaction.
