“Are you going to tell me what that was about?” Wade’s voice thundered behind Scarlett as she rushed out of the ballroom and down the stairs.
“Nothing.”

“It was nothing, Wade.”
He felt simmering anger as it threatened to spill all over. She was dismissive with the way she answered, and that was something he would not condone. He doubled his steps as she went down the last step and turned the corner into the bushes below and he was able to grab her wrist before she made another turn. He slowly glanced around before he spoke, suddenly grateful she had taken this route, they were covered by the bushes and none of the party guests could see them or listen in on their conversation.
