She had been holding her phone in her hands, and it clattered to the floor when she heard the words her father just said. She was still in shock but the loud sound of her phone hitting the floor snapped her back into consciousness and she heard her dad stop talking. There was no doubt that he had heard her phone fall, and would probably be walking towards the door to check the source of the noise. She hastily scrambled to pick up the phone and she ran back down the stairs as quietly as she could. She heard her father open and close the door as she reached the bottom of the stairs, she swallowed down the heavy weight that had lodged itself in her throat and walked back to the dining room on shaky legs.
“Did you find your father?”
She was so out of it that her mother’s voice made her jump
