Chapter Seven: Adonis

I sighed, pulling the chair from the kitchen to the living room to sit in front of my sister and that b***h Alexa. I rubbed my face, trying to get my frustration to subside. I didn't want Alexa to meet my sister because I had promised our parents that I'd keep her away from the supernatural. It wasn't that I hated her, per say. I just had to protect my sister.

Good f*****g brother I am, right?

I snarled at Alexa when she rolled over onto her back and gave Venus the puppy dog eyes and Venus started to rub her belly. What a pathetic excuse of a wolf. Especially a f*****g Alpha.

"You're a pathetic Alpha, Alexa." I murmured, to which she chuckled.

"I enjoy the affection my mate is giving me. If that makes me pathetic, so be it. I can still rip your face off, 'Addy'."

I snarled at her, which made Venus look at me in confusion. I sighed, looking at her again.

"You can't do anything like we can because you're completely human, dear one." I started, crossing my arms over the back of the chair. "We are not blood related, at all. Your parents had you before your mother and my father got married. I was born before you, to my father, before he met your mother." She looked confused. I sighed. "Your parents were married before your mom met my father. They had you and were very happy, until my father and your mother met."

"It was the Mate Bond which binds our very souls to the one chosen for us by the Moon Goddess. Your mother and father got divorced, on good terms, I might add, and your mother and my father got married. We didn't have any more siblings. Your father was allowed to stay around so that you had both of your parents in your life. My father didn't agree with another male being around his mate, but he allowed it because it made your mom happy."

"Your father never tried to win your mother back, and he was always happy to watch over you when the pack went on hunts." I sighed again, not wanting to get to the nitty gritty, but knowing that I had to. "When my father came back from a hunt with the pack, everyone in the pack house was murdered. Everyone except you. They found you hidden in a closet under a bunch of clothes that smelled like everything and would confuse our senses."

I scrunched my face, knowing that mixed scents always confused our wolves. "My father took over raising you by himself, leaving me in charge of your care when he wasn't there. You didn't know that we were a bunch of wolves, and we kept it from you. As far as you knew, you were in the care of an extended human family. When my father died, I was given control of the pack. We moved to live here, in this apartment complex that I run."

I watched her eyes go wide. "All of you?" I nodded. "Every single one of us." She huffed a breath. I continued with our shared history. "Before my father died, however, he wanted our pack to combine with the pack that controls the west. Alexas' pack." I motioned to that damned she-wolf while she looked down at her, still scratching her belly. I had slightly hoped that she would say something, but she was still in wolf form, and hadn't used the Mate Bond with my sister yet, so I continued.

"My father and her father had convened and wanted her and I to marry, to bring our packs together so that we would run the whole North. However, I had already found Vitoria at that time, and we were expecting a daughter." I know my voice was sad now, but f**k, I missed her. Life just wasn't the same without your life mate.

"My pack had no idea that Vitoria and I had gotten married by human rules, and were expecting Alexa and I to marry in a few months time." I sighed softly, looking at Alexa, who was looking at me with what would have been confused for pity, if I were anyone else. "Thankfully, Alexa called the marriage off. I never thanked her for it, and I should have. Vitoria was going to give birth in a months time, and I was so excited about that, and distraught about the wedding that I wasn't sure how to act."

I looked at my sister, adoration in my eyes. "She used the excuse that she hadn't found her mate, hadn't found you, yet." I chuckled, which was a strange sound coming from me. I normally scoffed or scowled. But sometimes I could have a sense of humor. Alexa snuggled against Venus, and I know I looked sad, but I couldn't help it.

"After that... Our parents were pretty upset. Alexa's father temporarily banished her from her pack until she found her mate. That was years ago, now." I chuckled again, knowing full good and well that Alexa would stray from her pack as long as it took to find her mate. "My own father was upset too, but not nearly upset. He had known that there was another reason for us calling the wedding off, but he didn't want to push me away because I was the only heir for the pack."

I stared at my sister, who was nodding. She smiled softly when she caught me looking at her. Alexa growled a bit when she noticed us, but I didn't care. She was my sister before she had known that damned mutt. I sighed again.

"I'm not sure what brought Alexa to these parts, but here she is. I can only hope that she doesn't do anything that would break your heart, because I will kill her." I know my voice crossed into dark and I hoped that Alexa would take into consideration that I was not joking. At my words, Alexa shifted, ending up in her Tribal Outfit, just like myself. Her tawny fur covered her crotch and her breasts, while mine only covered my crotch.

"I have been around this city for a while. I wasn't sure why until I saw your sister. It was the Mate Bond, and I'm glad it was. I wouldn't trade her for the world. I'd be lying if I said I saw myself with someone else. I only want her, and I'll do whatever it takes to prove it to her, and to you, Adonis." I had never heard her speak like that to anyone, about anyone, and I was glad that she would. I smiled warmly, standing and walking towards her.

I stood in front of them on the couch, and placed my closed fist on my chest and bowed slightly. A warrior's greeting to an Alpha. I was glad for Venus's smile for how we were getting along, but her next question had me scowling.

"Can you guys explain what this Mate Bond is? You keep mentioning it, but I don't really understand it." She scrunched her face a little in confusion. I nodded, going back to the kitchen chair. I contemplated my next words carefully. The Mate Bond was just that. A bond between mates. I sighed softly, and looked at her, with Alexa snuggled up against her, wrapped around her.

"The Mate Bond.... Is difficult to understand if you're not like us. Not a wolf. Or a supernatural, really." I sighed, rubbing my face again. I really didn't want to have this conversation yet. I looked back at the two of them, Alexa holding my sister close to her.

"The Moon Goddess picks mates for us based on who She makes us to be. These mates are our soul halves, our perfect partner. Sometimes we don't understand why, and sometimes we get rejected. But if the Mate Bond works out, it's the most beautiful relationship we'll ever have in our lives. We'll do anything to please our mate, even rejecting them if that's what they want." I sighed softly. No wolf wants to be rejected.

"A rejection... Is like your soul is being ripped in pieces. A mate can reject us for any number of reasons. Sometimes we get lucky and the Mood Goddess will pick another mate for us." I smiled gently at Alexa and Venus. "Sometimes the Moon Goddess realizes that we're better off alone." I say softly, my own sadness leaking out. It had been several years since Vitoria had been murdered, but I was still alone. I suppose that's for the best.

I looked at Venus and she looked very sad. She snuggled into Alexa, who was rubbing her hands on Venus' forearms. She nodded as if she understood, which was good. Now came the hard part. I sighed.

"Venus." I said, sternly, looking at her. She looked at me, her eyes growing wide. "Yes, Addy?"

"Alexa is a special wolf." I started, and I noticed Alexa stiffen. It wasn't my place to have this conversation, but I couldn't trust that muffin muncher to have this conversation until it was too late. Alexa looked at me darkly, not wanting me to continue, but I did anyway.

"Alexa was given the genitalia of both a male and female. She can get you pregnant, and can get pregnant herself." I noticed that Venus blushed very hard. Obviously that position that I caught them in earlier was playing in her head. "Please use protection when you two fuck." I gave them a teasing grin. "I'm not ready to be an uncle yet." I winked at Venus as she blushed very hard and hid her face in her hands, and Alexa glared at me.
