ACIR HILLS “Don’t cry, peanut.” Gary’s words only made the tears stream harder. Before I could make a scene, I composed myself. I retreated from the hug, wiped the tears away, then offered a soft smile to him. “Come on, let’s go paint.” I inaudibly thanked him, grateful for the diversion. Pain still settled in my chest as I recalled what he just shared with me. The mere thought of losing your wife and only daughter consecutively was a shot in the heart.
