“Because it’s you.” He gave me one last, desperate kiss before drawing a shuddering breath and rolling off me. The sudden absence of him was like being doused in a bucket of cold water. All I could do was lie there, motionless, as I slowly returned to the real world. The world where Ryan was just a fantasy and would never be mine. I pushed myself to a sitting position and pressed a hand to my forehead. Ryan stared at the ceiling, his chest moving up and down with each breath. A horrible, sinking dread spread through me.
