The following morning

Zara couldn't sleep, she kept on tossing and turning on her bed with trains of thoughts disturbing her head.. She could hear her mum's silent cries. She got up before her alarm for school, she took her bath and dressed up for school,she didn't put any effort in dressing up.she brushed her natural hair and packed it as a messy bun. Her eyes were red and swollen for crying and not able to sleep, she carried her bag back and went downstairs. She went to the kitchen to get water,she saw her beautiful light-skinned mom in the dining with a cup of tea and a plate of mouthwatering well-garnished noodles in front of her. Her mother was deep in thought. When Zara got close to her,she saw how puffy,red and swollen her mum's face was, and her naturally light skin made it worse.Zara gasped, this got her mum's attention..

Rita: good morning pumpkin..

Zara:mu…mum…w…what happened?

Rita: here sugarplum, I made breakfast for you...your favorite breakfast...(smiles)

Zara:w...what happened to your face?

Rita: I..i... I fell off the staircase... Oh..no... I hit my face on the door...this morning...

Zara: m..mum..

Rita: baby...don't sorry about it...I'm okay..eat before it gets cold..I made it just like you requested last night(chuckles) extra diced hotdog's, sardines, a big turkey lap and a hot rich tea by the side (winks)..eat before it gets cold...you know how much you despise cold food..hurry up now..

Rita kissed her forehead and went to the kitchen. She came back and saw Zara deep in thought.

Rita: Zara, why aren't you eating?You're going to be late for school.

Zara: I am eating mum, its so delicious.. Thank you. (She takes a spoonful, chews and swallows) yum.

Rita: (smiles) let me go do my makeup,I'm coming.. Make sure you finish that food 'kay?

Zara: okay mummy.

Zara forced the food down her throat,. As much as the food was very delicious,she couldn't just finish it,she kept the remaining in the fridge.she took the tea, washed the cup and took an apple from the fridge. Soon enough,her mum walked graciously down the stairs, wearing an expensive gown,she did a simple makeover which hid her swollen face, then she used an expensive sunshade.she and her daughter went outside,they entered the black Rover and Mrs Rita zoomed off. Zara couldn't hide it anymore.

Zara: mum! Dad hit you, right?

Rita: (shocked) z.. Zara..what do you mean?...no..we just had a little disagreement and we've settled it already..

Zara: mum he slapped you!!(shouts) Stop trying to cover up for him, he's a heartless man!! He slapped you and called you out of your name mummy..chased you out of your room, in the house you bought with your own hard earned money!!!(her voice breaks) mum...why?.why do you let him keep doing this to you....

Rita: Zara...he's still your father...he was just in a bad mood last night, and he didn't mean it..

Zara: mum! I've heard and seen you cry about his promiscuous ways since i was 15, mum!!.. Okay, he changed a little when you caught him red-handed, but a few months ago, he went back to his own vomit. His family is in full support of his promiscuous ways..he doesn't even give a damn about us.. He's always bringing one woman or the other to your matrimonial house...and you let him keep doing this?.... Dad has changed mum..I don't support divorce, but I'm strongly behind you if you finally consider getting one...and the next time he raises his hands on you,I won't hesitate to call the cops on him.

Rita : (exhales) d...don't worry about it at all....just focus on your studies..I'll do something about it...I love you so much pumpkin(wipes her tears) I love you and teetee..also don't tell teetee about this, I don't want her to get distracted..don't think about it okay?

Zara nodded, hugged her mum, got down from the car, wiped her tears and went to her class,her mum burst into tears and zoomed off to her store. Zara wasn't feeling well,she ran to the restroom to vomit all she ate ,she rinsed her mouth and face, went to the classroom to drop her bag and went to the assembly ground. She just stood in her line and zoned off,a lot of students noticed this, even some teachers, after assembly,they entered their different classes. Zara felt numb,she was quiet, which was unusual in class. The first teacher came in class to teach them.Zara just tried writing some notes and when the teacher was done, Zara stared at the wall, her "best friend" went to meet her, she sat on Zara's desk pressing her phone and chewing gum.

Khloe: Zara, come check out Liya's latest post...omggggg her shoes are to die for...her makeup...topnotch....her...ZARA!! ZARA!!!

Zara:oh...hi..didn't see you there, morning..

Khole: (rolls her eyes)what's wrong with this one?..better talk what's wrong?

Zara:nothing....I'm just having a headache

Khloe: hmmm if you say so...anyway I was talking about Liya's latest post...omg her boyfriend is the cutest..

Zara zoned out again, she kept on thinking why she was still best friends with khloe, she didn't even care about her...

Khloe: ZARA!!!

Zara: (snaps) stop screaming my name..I'm not deaf..

Khloe : whatever.. Or..(whispers) are you pregnant?

Zara: (rolls her eyes) f**k off. You're just stupid...

Zara got up, went to the sickbay, she sent a voice message to her asking how school was going, then she slept off in the sickbay. Few hours later,when she woke up,she was feeling better. She went back to the classroom, on her way back, under the staircase that leads to her class,she saw her lovely boyfriend grabbing and kissing a junior.Zara felt sick to her stomach,she felt betrayed.she went back to her classroom. Khloe was sitting on a desk in front of the class with the Queen b(binta) and her minions(Abigail and Ana) in the class gossiping.. Once they saw her they kept mute. Zara knew they were talking about her,she shook her head and went to her seat. A tall, quiet, handsome boy in class who happened to be the assistant head boy went to meet her.

Olumide: hey Zara

Zara: oh..hi olumide

Olumide: uhm...can I have a word with you outside?

Zara nodded and they both went outside.

Binta: ahah, Zara, are you now cheating on our handsome and sexily built sport prefect with our nerdy assistant head

boy? Damn girl... You just went from 100 to -10..( giggles)

Khloe: (laughs) abeg help me tell her.

Joy:but olumide is not bad o...my guy just no wan show himself.

Zara: binta, shouldn't you be worried about the 5 classes you've been failing recently? And not worry about me?...I mean..at the rate you're going..you would be lucky to graduate.tch..

She rolled her eyes and followed olumide to the school garden.

Olumide: a..are you okay? You have been awfully quiet in class, and you missed 3 classes today..

Zara : (smiles) I'll be fine mide...thank you

Olumide: okay...just be careful of Khloe..I know you are both her best friends but be very careful of her..she's nothing but a backstabber.

Zara: why did you say so?...I mean I know she's a backstabber, but why did you say so?

Olumide: immediately you told her to f**k off this morning, she had been hanging around with binta and her minions, and they all told everybody in class that... That you have..daddy troubles..

Zara: h...how...wh...whyyy?

Olumide: she said a lot of nasty things about you and your family... Just be careful and avoid her.

Zara: t..thank you very much.
