The meeting with Alexander Kingsley

Alexander's POV From the top floor of the Kingsley Group headquarters, the city stretched beneath my office windows like a living map.roads, buildings, people all moving according tomy rules in my office. That morning was no different. I stood beside my desk, jacket perfectly pressed, reviewing financial projections on the screen while my assistant waited silently nearby. The room was silent. “Sir,” Marcus said carefully, “the overseas partners are requesting confirmation on the acquisition.” “They’ll get it by noon,” I replied without looking up. “Nothing moves without my approval.” “Yes, sir.” The silence returned. Then my phone rang,it was not the office line or my personal mobile but my private line. My eyes narrowed. Only one person had that number. “Give it to me,” I said sharply. Marcus hesitated for half a second before handing it over. I took the phone, already standing, instinct screaming before logic could catch up. “Alexander,” my grandmother’s voice came through. I exhaled relief, “Grandmother. You’re calling early.” There was a pause. Then she said calmly, “I was in an accident.” The world stopped. “What?” The word left my mouth without control. “Where are you?” “I’m at St. Catherine’s Hospital,” she said. “I’m stable.” My grip tightened around the phone. “Are you hurt?” “Enough to remind me that I’m mortal,” she replied lightly. “But I’ll live. Thanks to someone else.” “I’m coming,” I said instantly. “There’s no need to panic” “I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.” She chuckled. “Still ordering the world around, I see.” “Who did this?” I demanded. “The driver? Security failed” “Alexander,” she interrupted gently. “It was an accident.” I closed my eyes briefly, forcing myself to breathe. “Are you alone?” I asked. “No,” she said. “I have company.” Something about her tone made my jaw tighten. “Who?” “A girl,” she replied. “Her name is Elara. She saved my life.” The name meant nothing to me. Yet something about the way my grandmother said it made it linger in my mind. “I want you to meet her,” she added. “Come quickly.” The line went dead. Marcus was already grabbing my coat. “Clear my schedule,” I said, striding toward the door. “Cancel everything.” “Yes, sir.” As the elevator descended, I was thinking of who had saved my grandmother. And whoever she was, she mattered. The hospital corridors parted when I arrived. Nurses stiffened, doctors straightened, whispers followed—but I ignored them all. I pushed open the door to her room. She was sitting up beneath white sheets and bandages. “Alexander,” she said warmly. Relief hit me hard. “You scared me.” She smiled knowingly. “Good. You forget I’m human.” I stepped closer, my eyes scanning her injuries. “This should never have happened.” “And yet it did,” she replied calmly. Then she turned her head slightly. “And stop pretending you don’t see her.” I followed her gaze. That was when I noticed the girl standing by the window. She looked too quiet, but that won't make me ignore her beauty. Her clothes were simple, her posture guarded, as if she’d learned early not to draw attention to herself. She turned when she sensed my gaze. Our eyes met and something shifted. “This,” my grandmother said, “is Elera.” I inclined my head politely. “Thank you for saving my grandmother.” She blinked, clearly startled by my presence. “I didn’t do anything special.” “She stayed all night,” my grandmother added. “Refused to leave.” I studied her more closely. “Why?” She hesitated. “I didn’t want her to be alone.” My grandmother smiled. “Elara,” she said, “this is my grandson, Alexander Kingsley.” Her breath caught—just slightly. “Oh.” She bowed her head. “Sir.” “Look at me,” my grandmother said firmly. Elara lifted her gaze again. “Titles don’t matter here.” I spoke calmly. “You should have contacted us. There would have been compensation.” Her chin lifted. “I didn’t save her for money.” I was shocked when she said that, most people would have been happy but there she was looking unhappy. I found her interesting. Elara’s POV The moment he entered the room, the air changed. I didn’t need anyone to announce who he was. Power clung to him like a shadow—quiet, commanding, suffocating. His presence made the room feel smaller, as if the walls themselves straightened under his gaze. Alexander Kingsley. I had heard the name before. Everyone had. But standing in front of him was different. He was tall, sharp-featured, dressed in a tailored suit that probably cost more than everything I owned combined. His eyes were dark, unreadable cold, even. I suddenly thought of my worn shoes. My plain dress. The fact that I didn’t belong here. When he thanked me, I nodded quickly, unsure of what to say. I wasn’t prepared for his scrutiny. He looked at me the way people look at problems they intend to solve or eliminate. Yet when he asked why I stayed, his voice wasn’t cruel. Just… curious. “I didn’t want her to be alone,” I said truthfully. The room went quiet. Grandma Evelyn smiled like she had just won something. Alexander didn’t respond immediately. He watched me, his expression darkened “You look exhausted,” he said finally. I stiffened. “I’m fine.” “You stayed all night,” he replied. “That isn’t fine.” I didn’t know how to answer that. “Did anyone know where you were?” he asked. My stomach tightened. “No,” I admitted. His brow furrowed. “Why not?” Because no one would care, I thought. But I didn’t say it. Grandma Evelyn reached for my hand. “She was on her way to the market when she found me,” she said. “She forgot everything else.” Alexander’s gaze sharpened. “You abandoned an obligation?” “Yes,” I said quietly. “I did.” Something flickered in his eyes—approval? Disapproval? I couldn’t tell. “You chose a stranger over your responsibilities,” he said. “I chose a life,” I replied before I could stop myself. The room went still. Grandma Evelyn laughed softly. “Oh, I like her.” Alexander exhaled slowly, as if restraining himself. “You’re brave,” he said to me. “Or reckless.” “Maybe both,” I replied. For the first time, something almost like a smile touched his lips.
