Chapter 6               How am I supposed to fall asleep now??? I mean, we’ve said that we loved each other before, but never like that. Maybe it’s just because she was asleep. I try to wake her up by poking and shaking her, to no avail. I lay there still staring at the top of my bed. At some point, I finally drift off to sleep. My sleep is dreamless tonight. No weird things, no desires, no nothing.              When the morning comes, no one is in my room with me. But, I hear sounds coming through the wall. I get out of bed, take a shower, and throw on some jeans and another t-shirt. All the clothes here are designed to leave space for our wings, how genius. I decided that I am going to ask Ruby what last night was about. She said her room was connected to mine, I just have to remember what doors I looked through last night. After searching a few of them once more, I am reaching for one I haven’t tried yet.             “My Queen, may I come in?” Ugh…Zeke.             “I guess.” I reply. I pull away from the door, giving it a second look before heading to the doors leading out of my room. When I open the door I see Zeke standing there, obviously, but he is not in the suit anymore. He is in a pair of dark jeans and a black t-shirt. Man is he cute. “What can I help you with Zeke?”              “I thought we might go for a walk in the gardens or through the town,” he informs me. “Oh, that sounds fun. I was looking for Ruby. Do you know where she is?” I ask him.  “I wanted to be the first to reintroduce you to your people, so I gave her the day off.” Oh. Right, this was her job. “Are you ready to go?” “Yeah, I’m ready.” I turn around and shut my door and Zeke leads me out of the castle. Once we get outside I turn back and see how large my home actually is. My high school could fit inside of it several times! “Wow, that is huge.” “Yes, it is. But, you get used to it.” Zeke replies without turning around.  Zeke took me into town to meet the people. The houses are these beautiful, cozy cottages and there is a large market in the middle of town. He buys me some fruit and meat for lunch. This little girl comes up to us while we’re sitting at a fountain at the edge of the town square.  “Do you remember me?” she asks. Before I could answer, she kept talking. “My parents and I took a trip to the human world and I got to see you! You are so beautiful!”  “Oh! You were the little girl at the mall! You floated away from me.” I said. “Yeah, I got in trouble for that. We aren’t really supposed to use our powers or fly in front of humans. I’m sorry Miss Queen.” She looks down at the ground ashamed. “It’s ok. It’s nice to meet you. My name is Elora.” “I know, my name is Ash!” She says as someone calls her name. “I have to go, but will I get to see you again?” “Yes, I am sure you will.” I say and watch her run towards who I assume are her parents.  “Zeke, tell me about our pull. The fated soul mates pull that you had to me when I was born,” I look at him. He almost seems surprised that I’m asking. “Ruby told me.” “Oh, of course she did. I would do the same in her situation.” Her situation? I give him a curious look. “Don’t worry about it. She obviously didn’t mention that. I don’t blame her. When our pull happened, I was a little over 100 years old. Really young. Though, I was two in the human world. I had been feeling oddly attached to your family for a little while and when you were born it was obvious why. The second your mom went into labor, I told my parents I needed to be there. They didn’t understand why. Most pulls don’t happen until the birth of the soul mate, but ours was happening before your birth. It was very unusual. But, my parents listened to me and started walking me to your moms birthing room. What was even more unusual was that Ruby and her parents were already there. She is older than both of us, so it seemed odd she’d be there at all.” While he was musing on about the day I was born, he started playing with his hair. Which I hadn’t really noticed the night before. A pitch-black color, almost like his shirt. He kept it tied back for the most part, although he was playing with a few strands that had found their way out of the tie. He must have felt me staring because he turned to look at me. I turned away, blushing. “Ruby, myself, and our families were there at your birth. As soon as you were born, something happened. A light shone and the stars outside got really bright. Something like that only happens every few thousand years. You are one in a million Elora. You are powerful.” “Oh great. That is absolutely what I need right now.” I say, rubbing my face with my hand. “Speaking of her, I would like to see Ruby. Can we go back to the castle now?” I whine. “I don’t think you should really be spending so much time with her. I don’t think it will be good for either of you.” He mentions, glancing away from me.  “Why?” I ask suspiciously. “No reason, just don’t think it’s a good idea. You all have already spent so much time with one another in the real world. I’m not sure you need to here. I can protect you better than she can when you are in this realm.” He tells me jumping up and away from where we are sitting. “But if you would like to go back to the castle, I will only do what you command of me.” “umm…thank you. I guess.” He holds his hand out to me and helps me to stand up and we start heading home.     “Ruby! Where are you?” I call in my room. I head over to the door that I was going to open earlier. I twist the doorknob and it moves under my fingers. When I open the door, all I can see is darkness. The room almost has no light. But upon walking further into the room, I can see the light under the bathroom door. As I am getting ready to knock on the bathroom door, it opens and Ruby walks out. Butt naked.  “Ahhh!” She screams. “El! What the heck are you doing?!”  She scrambles to cover herself. But not before I had seen everything. The light from the bathroom accented every part of her body. The way her hips curve up to where her breasts sit. Her hair is soaking wet so she must have just gotten out of the shower. I realize I’m staring with my mouth open. I turn away to give her some privacy. “I’m sorry! I thought you had heard me call out to you!” “No! I was taking a shower. Let me get dressed and I will meet you in your room. I think there are some things we need to discuss.” She says. “I agree. I’ll see you in a moment,” and I walk back into my room.  While I wait for her, I decide to open up the doors to my balcony, get some fresh air after what just happened. “Did you and Zeke have fun today?” I turn around and Ruby is staring at me. How long have I been out here just staring out over the city. “Why are you staring?” I tilt my head and ask her. “You’re beautiful. Always have been,” she says walking up to me. She tucks a strand of her behind my ear. “No matter what, you are my best friend.” “What do you mean?” I ask her. She doesn’t answer, just walks over to the edge of the balcony and looks out over the city too. “Last night, you told me you loved me.” She turns to look at me, aghast. “You were in the middle of sleeping, I’m not sure you remember what exactly happened.” I say shyly, looking at my feet. “I greatly apologize. That was not supposed to happen. I guess I got caught up in the emotion of the evening,” she says, looking at her feet. “I was never supposed to tell you.”             As I am getting ready to ask her what she was never supposed to tell me, I hear what sounds like bombs going off on the outskirts of town.             “What is that? What’s happening?” I ask looking out towards the sound.             “My Queen, we must get you to safety!” I hear coming from behind us. It’s Zeke and a group of other guards. He still hadn’t changed out of the clothes he was wearing earlier. “We are being attacked.”             “We can talk later,” Ruby assures me as she pushes me towards Zeke. “Promise me you will keep her safe?” She asks him.              “You know I will. I would never let anything happen to her.” He tells her and grabs my hand. “Let’s go.”             As he pulls me away I hear Ruby whisper “Be safe El, I love you.” I don’t think she realized I heard her. She said it again.              “Queen Elora, we are going to get you out of here and try to get you to safety.” I am not really paying attention to Zeke as he says this. My mind is on Ruby and making sure she is safe.              “Is she going to be alright? Why did she stay behind and not come with us?” I ask him.              “She has a special power that will help keep us all safe. But you, we must hide you. Please, come with me.”             We run down a few flights of stairs and come to a very old door. It doesn’t really look like it’ll open, but surprisingly, Zeke opens it without much effort. Wow, he must be really strong. We run some more until we see a light towards the end of the hallway we are in. It’s the outside.              “Where are we going?” I ask Zeke.             “There is a safe house within the city. It has a special room that will hold us and keep you safe no matter what happens.” He explains while still running. He doesn’t seem to be too tired either. He must be very strong and has a high endurance.              Next thing I know, I am on the ground and my head is hurting. Did someone hit me? I hear fighting and metal sounds ringing against one another. When I try to stand up, everything is moving around me and I fall down again. I don’t remember how to fly either, but even then, I am not sure I would have had the strength to do so after that blow. I think I passed out for a few minutes because when I open my eyes again, someone is carrying me away from Zeke and the other guards. I see Zeke try to stand up again and someone hits him in the side with the hilt of a large sword and then kicks him in the head. Zeke doesn’t get back up.              “NO!!!” I yell. I start punch the back of whoever is holding me. “Let me go!” I scream.             “No, I don’t think I will Queen,” he says. The last word is said bitterly. “Oh how excited she will be when she finds out that we have you.” He laughs.             “Who? She who?” I ask, still kicking and punching this large man. All he does is laugh.             “You’ll soon find out. For now, why don’t you stop hitting that poor man. You wont be able to get out of his grip.” Another voice. This time coming from someone behind me. “I wish I could have you. Mmm…what a great night you must give. Too bad actually.” Those are the last words before someone knocks me out and it’s all black again.
