Chapter 9 – Finding Kevin

As we stood there in the bathroom, the weight of my situation hanging heavy in the air, Sarah's concern for me was palpable. Her voice was gentle as she offered advice. "Stacy, maybe you should consider asking for a sick leave from work, just to give yourself some time to process everything." I nodded, realizing that taking some time off might be a good idea. "You're right, Sarah. I need some time to figure things out." Sarah's eyes were filled with empathy. "And I'll talk to our boss about taking a vacation leave. We could use that time to help you find the man you had the one-night stand with." My heart skipped a beat at her words. The idea of searching for a man I hardly knew seemed overwhelming, yet the support and determination in Sarah's voice reassured me. "You'd do that for me?" I asked, my voice wavering. Sarah smiled warmly. "Of course, Stacy. We're in this together. We'll track him down and figure out a way to let him know about the pregnancy." Tears welled up in my eyes as gratitude washed over me. In the midst of all the uncertainty and fear, Sarah's unwavering friendship was a beacon of hope. "Thank you, Sarah," I whispered, my voice choked with emotion. She hugged me tightly. "Don't mention it. We'll get through this, I promise." As we left the bathroom, the weight on my shoulders felt a little lighter. With Sarah's support, I had a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, I could navigate the challenging path ahead and find a way to connect with the man from that fateful night. *** With Sarah's encouragement, we took the first step towards resolving the complicated situation I found myself in. Going to the hospital for a check-up seemed like the right thing to do. As I sat in the waiting room, my heart raced with nervous anticipation. The doctor's office was clinical and white, and as I sat on the examination table, Sarah by my side, I couldn't help but feel a rush of anxiety. The doctor was kind, asking questions about my health and history. I felt a mixture of relief and unease as they explained the series of tests and ultrasound I would undergo. As the ultrasound technician guided the probe over my belly, I held my breath, my eyes fixed on the monitor. And then, there it was a blurry image that seemed to hold so much significance. The technician pointed out the features, and my heart swelled with a mix of emotions. I was indeed pregnant, and the ultrasound picture was undeniable proof of it. Exiting the hospital, the photograph clutched in my hand, Sarah looked at me with a reassuring smile. "Stacy, this is our evidence. We'll give this to Kevin once we find him." I nodded, my gratitude for her unwavering support swelling within me. "Thank you, Sarah. I don't know what I'd do without you." She linked her arm with mine as we walked back to the car. "We're in this together, remember? We'll find a way to make things right." Leaving the hospital with the ultrasound picture in hand, Sarah and I sat in the car, our minds focused on the next step. Sarah's determination was palpable as she turned to me with a thoughtful expression. "Stacy, do you remember the name or location of the club and the hotel you went to that night?" I furrowed my brow, trying to recall the details from that hazy evening. "The club... it was called 'Eclipse.' And the hotel... I think it was the 'Royal Heights Hotel.'" Sarah's eyes lit up. "Great! That's a starting point. These places could give us some leads, or maybe even some information about the man you were with." I nodded, feeling a surge of hope. "You're right. Maybe someone at the club or the hotel remembers something about him." As we drove, my mind raced with thoughts of the potential encounter. Could someone at the club remember a man I had only briefly met? Would the hotel staff have any information to offer? The uncertainty gnawed at me, but I held onto the belief that these places could hold the key to finding the man who was now linked to this life-changing situation. We arrived at Eclipse, the club's neon lights casting a vibrant glow on the surroundings. As we entered, the familiar thumping of music enveloped us. Sarah and I exchanged determined glances, ready to seek out anyone who might remember that night. Approaching the bar, I leaned in close to the bartender and tried to describe the man I had spent that fateful night with. Sarah joined in, her words echoing mine as we shared the story of our quest. The bartender listened intently, his expression thoughtful as he considered our words. "You know," he finally said, "I do remember someone fitting that description. He was here that night, but I don't know his name. Maybe you could check with some regulars or the DJ." My heart raced with a newfound hope. We thanked the bartender and moved through the crowd, approaching the DJ booth. After explaining our situation, the DJ nodded, offering to make an announcement to see if anyone could provide information. As the DJ's voice boomed through the club, describing the man we were looking for, I exchanged a glance with Sarah. The anticipation was nerve-wracking, but it was a step in the right direction. With Eclipse behind us, we headed to the Royal Heights Hotel, where I had ended up that night. The lobby was elegant and welcoming, and I approached the front desk with a mix of apprehension and determination. "Hi," I began, my voice trembling slightly. "I stayed here a while back, and I'm trying to find someone I met that night. Is there any chance you have any record of guests from that time?" The receptionist studied me for a moment before typing on the computer. "I can't give out guest information, but if you leave your contact details, I could pass a message along if there's a match." I left my information with a sense of hopeful anticipation. Sarah and I exited the hotel, the weight of the day's efforts settling on our shoulders. Despite the uncertainty, there was a newfound sense of purpose as we embarked on this journey to find the man who could hold the answers we needed.
