The 501st Parachute Infantry Battalion Commander kept his S-2 office in a new two-story white barracks next to his headquarters. The wooden building sat on the edge of a ridge overlooking Lawson Field at Fort Benning. The intelligence officer and his staff worked on the first floor, down the hall from the supply cadre of the S-4. Other support staff had the run of the second floor.
Hard at work in an office that he shared with three other soldiers, Genero had until 1500 hours to complete his portion of the staff intelligence estimate for the commander’s briefing. If he kept his focus, he could make it.
