Sitting there in Lola"s kitchen, all my belief in how the world worked might have crashed to the floor, had I let myself truly believe what I was being told. I couldn"t have felt more wobbly if there"d been an earthquake that had physically shaken the ground beneath me. I couldn"t speak as I listened, struck dumb by the words he was saying.
