Sitting once more in Lola"s home, I didn"t know how I felt. I loved the house, the feeling of being home, but the warmth I felt at being there with Gabe had shards of ice piercing it – we both missed Lola and I felt unsettled at not having an action plan to follow. Our inertia felt like failure, saying what will be will be. Gabe insisted that we try to carry on with life as normal, whatever that was, so we went to work, we ate, we slept, we walked in the town, we sat on the bench overlooking the fields, and we saw Fletcher and Miranda just a couple of times. I visited Kathleen and Bob. Miranda felt as I did, that our inactivity was wrong, and I caught sharp words between her and Gabe to that effect one day when I came home unexpectedly. The moment was quickly glossed over by both parties
