Amy I was dead on my feet by the time my shift wound down. My eyes stung from staring at the charts for too long, and my back, it ached from bending over the supply shelves for long hours. I looked at my wrist watch, my shift was done, finally. I stood up to arrange the shelves before leaving. I was done in less than a minute and picked my bag to walk out but then, a sharp, rising wail split through the glass windows, coming from outside the hospital, slicing across the stillness of the corridor, it was an Ambulance. What the hell was happening? I froze just as the sliding doors at the end of the hall burst open, and suddenly the quiet evening shift wasn’t quiet anymore.
