As they settled into a plush sitting area, Lucia felt the weight of her questions pressing against her chest, demanding to be voiced. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the confrontation that was to come. “Why, Olivia?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Why did you do this? Why did you destroy everything we built?” Olivia’s lips curled into a sardonic smile, her eyes glinting with a hint of triumph. “Because it was ours to begin with,” she replied, her tone laced with a bitter edge. "That company, those achievements – they were supposed to be ours, Lucia, But our parents took that away from us, and I couldn’t let that stand.” Lucia felt a chill run down her spine at the venom in Olivia’s words. “Our parents?” she echoed, her brow furrowed in confusion. “What are you talking about?” Olivia’s expression darkened, a shadow passing over her features. “Don’t you see, (Lucia? We were robbed of our birthright, our legacy. That company, the success – it was all supposed to be ours. But our parents gave you away, and I was left to pick up the pieces.” The realization dawned on Luc like a tidal wave, crashing against the fragile foundations of her world. “You mean… our parents?” she breathed, her voice trembling with a mix of disbelief and horror. Olivia nodded, her gaze unwavering. “Yes, Lucia. Our parents were the founders of that company, the ones who built it from the ground up. And they chose to give you away, to keep me hidden and isolated, all while you reaped the rewards of their hard work.” Lucia felt as if the air had been knocked out of her lungs, her mind reeling with the implications of Olivia’s words. The company, the success, the life she had built – it had all been a lie, a carefully constructed façade built upon the foundations of a betrayal she had never imagined. “But why?” she asked, her voice barely audible. “Why would they do that? Why would they give me away?” Olivia’s expression darkened, a flicker of pain crossing her features. “They were ashamed of us, Lucia. Ashamed of the fact that they had twin daughters, when the world expected them to have a single heir. They wanted to protect their legacy, their reputation, and they saw you as the expendable one.” Lucia felt a wave of nausea wash over her, her hands trembling as she tried to process the devastating truth. “So you… you orchestrated all of this, just to get back at them? To take what was rightfully ours?” Olivia nodded, her expression hardening. “Yes, Lucia. I’ve spent my entire life living in the shadows, watching as you basked in the glory of our parents’ success. I couldn’t let that stand. I had to take back what was ours, no matter the cost.”
