29 A frown dragged at Agathe’s lips, while Luke pushed his door wider and made room for her to enter. She spun around and waved the taxi away, not all that sure she’d made the right choice. The sinking in her heart said she’d just waved goodbye to her only chance at escape. She turned back to Luke, just as his jaw set firm, and his gaze burrowed into hers. “Come on in.” While her life had lightened, his heavy tone indicated just how much she’d hurt him. He stepped aside, and she bowed her head, avoiding any extra glimpses of the deep lines marking his forehead. The door clicked shut behind her, and her stomach roiled anew, her entrapment more real.
