She has gotten up after she has shed the majority of her tears at her ended marriage. she packed the paper Thomas has handed over to her and set them in order on the table. As if she’s been programmed, Alessia has cleared the table of their unfinished food quickly and kept the leftovers in the fridge. After she cleaned up the dishes, she had a warm, calming bath to ease her pressure. She needs to be alright and composed to face the day.

Alessia had dismissed every servant and maids who worked in the Villa, all her thought was that Thomas would want to touch her and have fun with her on their “supposed to be” special dinner. How naïve she had been.

Everything had looked like it was coming to an end for a long time, but Alessia had been too gullible to see them. Lately, Thomas had been coming home later than usual. Whenever Alessia talked about it, he claimed he had been overworking these days due to his new position at work. As if that wasn’t enough, Thomas didn’t stop coming late at night anymore, he now turned it into a week-long business and told his wife he was having a business meeting and negotiating with international customers. He stopped to touch her and barely had her time, but Alessia had been afraid to ask him why because she was privately delighted. In less than no time at all, they don’t have their meal together anymore because Thomas had claimed to be busy all the time. Alessia barely gets to see her husband once a month.

She had suspected things were not going well, but she thought it was all in her head and pushed the doubt aside. But now, it was obvious he had not been busy instead he had been receiving from another woman what she was supposed to be giving him at home.

“Did he bestow with another woman, all the compliment he had withheld from me?” Alessia is deep in thought .

“I cannot believe you got this from Thomas”, Camila Owens, Alessia intimate’s friend exclaimed; her eyes rolled with the weight of a thousand signs as she went through the contents of the papers handed to her by Alessia. Camila snapped her finger inches from Alessia’s face, this made her come back to reality. Did you hear what I just said?

Alessia shook her head to clear her thoughts. She needed to pay attention. “What did you just say?” She asked.

Are you just going to sign these and let him go scot-free? Camila waved the paper in front of her. He cheated on you, who knows how long he has been going out with his mistress?

She grabbed a stool near Alessia to sit and picked up the remote to mute the sound of the television that seemed to be disturbing their conversation. “Listen to me Alessia, Do you know you can get to sue him for what he has done to you because of his unfaithfulness? Don’t you want him to share the burden of your pains and let him feel what it looks like?

Looking at her friend with weary eyes that were so red after a lot of tears had been shed. She knew Camila was the only person she could run to after the incident, her brilliant barrister who had never lost a case since all her years she had been called to the bar.

If it had been Camila, Thomas cheated on and treated this way, Alessia is aware she would handle him and made sure he wouldn’t be able to afford what to eat after she sued him. She knew Camila as a strong and brave girl since childhood. If it happened she was the one in this situation, she would have confronted Thomas when he had started behaving badly, and wouldn’t let him embarrassingly dump her.

She rested her hand on Camila’s shoulder.

“I understand how concerned you are and how you so much care for me, and I appreciate it. At this point, all I want is to put a signature on these documents and end this forbidden marriage. I can’t withstand the pain of seeing him anymore, if this case is dragged to court, he will continue to have access to me and I don’t want that. I can’t waste any more of my life thinking about him”.

Enveloping her in a warm embrace. “Whatever you want Ale,” she said, patting Alessia’s back gently like a toddler. “I just want you to rest your mind and know I’m here for you and I will do anything that pleases you.”

They remained in the same position for minutes before Alessia pulled back. What is he offering me after betraying me in this manner? She asked nonchalantly. Camila reads out from the document she’s holding. “Forty percent of his assets. You’ll get the new Villa, his house in England, and a mansion you currently live in as well as three exotic cars and a fixed amount of money monthly which will become a total of sixteen million at the end of the year. So, sixteen million yearly.”

This might sound like a lot, but it doesn’t freak Alessia because she was born with a silver spoon and got married into a gold one. With the way Thomas put the end to their marriage, all this just meant he was trying to buy her silence so that she kept the secret safe from the prying eyes of the press. “Is that all?”

“Ugh, no,” Camila said, shaking her head in disgust. “If you accept this, you will have to put your hand to paper agreeing that you will have nothing to do with his new relationship. I don’t know how you fell in love with him, Ale. He is disgusting. Alessia grabbed the document from her, eager to shut the door on her past love. She had lost her feelings for Thomas since long time ago, this just indicates a formal close to everything.

When their love was new, Thomas had been a perfect gentleman. He was a dream man to every single lady out there, he was that man who opened the car door without asking him to do. Every week he would surprise Alessia with nice flowers, and they would go to an impromptu date, movie theater, and beach. He stole her heart with his promises and kisses. That amazing cold November evening, when he proposed to her had felt like the best day she ever lived.

As soon as they got married, things changed from how it was meant to be. It seemed like Alessia didn’t get married to only Thomas but to his authoritative mother and his elder sisters. They were never satisfied with anything done by Alessia. Firstly, they stop Alessia from working because they think it is a shame for Thomas that his wife is an office worker, and insist that it makes Thomas look like he’s not capable enough to provide for his family's needs. When they were left alone in their bedroom, Thomas would tell his wife that he didn’t mind if she was working because he knew how hardworking Alessia was, but he never said anything when his family condemned Alessia.

Suddenly, the clothes Alessia wore were not classic enough for Thomas’s mother— her clothes were too short, the Jeans she put on weren’t good enough and her suits were too outdated. They changed the clothes she wore completely and took over her wardrobe. Whenever Alessia had complained to Thomas about what was going on, he’d insisted his mother was an older woman and knew what was good for her. It is easier to get along with what she wants rather than complain. Everything that was bought to replace her clothes was the liking of his mother. In a short while, everything about Alessia was wrong, her hair was not supposed to be this long, her laugh was similar to a monkey’s own and her voice was too loud. Even her food isn’t delicious to them. Alessia stopped complaining to her husband because nothing changed whenever she complained, he barely did anything, and whenever he did something, he and his mother would scream at each other and later put the blame on Alessia she made him fight his mother. His sister would bombard her with calls, accusing her of making their brother turn a new leaf towards them.

Everything was always her fault, according to her soon-to-be ex-husband and his family. Thomas never for once thinks he should side with his wife, that she was not the woman she got married to, because his dreadful family had tormented her until she was mentally exhausted. And instead of sitting her wife down to be aware of what was wrong with her, she had gone out and cheated on her.

Alessia asked Camila for a pen, and quickly put her signature in the place she was supposed to in the document.

Her marriage was not meant to end like this, but the better days are ahead. It is finally over between Alessia Walton and Thomas Walton
