“Emily, wake up.” Her mother’s voice floated through the fog of sleep, gentle but insistent. Emily groaned and rolled onto her side, burying her face deeper into the pillow. A sigh followed. “Aiden, come wake her. She won’t move.” There was a pause, then a low chuckle—her father’s laugh, unmistakable. “Sofia, if Aiden wakes her, she’ll be furious again.” “I tried already,” her mother said firmly. “She didn’t budge. So Aiden will.” The bed suddenly bounced beneath her as Aiden launched himself onto it. He shook her hard, rattling her shoulders like he was trying to snap her in half. “Em! Wake up!
