Chapter Nine

The vampires were sipping their blood-red cocktails, their fangs glinting in the light. The werewolves were hunched over their steaks, tearing at the meat with their claws. The demons were cackling over bowls of fire, their tails twitching with amusement. No one was willing to intervene. "Why doesn't anyone want to help?" Lord Grey whispered to Liliana, his eyes never leaving the scene unfolding before them. "What's wrong with everyone?" Liliana sighed, her expression heavy with sadness. "The alphas have too much power. Everyone is too afraid to stand up to them. They're too scared of the consequences." She paused, then continued, her voice low and solemn. "There was one boy who tried to oppose them. He spoke out against their actions, and tried to get the school to do something about it. But the alphas... they retaliated. And after that, no one dared to speak up again. Everyone was too afraid." "That's horrible," Lord Olive said with obviously fake sympathy. "Why would the school let that happen? Why wouldn't they do anything to stop it?" Liliana shook her head. "The alphas are rich and powerful. They have the ability to influence the school. And besides, their actions aren't technically illegal. They're just... unethical. It's a gray area, and the school doesn't want to get involved." Lord Grey's brow furrowed. "That's wrong. There has to be measures taken to stop this nonsense. I would not want my eating time to be disrupted in this manner in the future." Liliana nodded not necessarily for any reason. It just seemed like the right reaction to give. "Ethan's uncle is a senior member of the school board," Liliana said. "Ethan's always been a troublemaker, but he's gotten away with everything because of his family connections. No one's ever been able to hold him accountable. It's like he's untouchable." Lord Grey clenched his fists. "This is madness, who the hell does he think he is?There has to be a way to put a stop to it." Liliana looked at him, her eyes full of uncertainty of if Grey was making a joke of this or if he really wanted the bullying to stop. "I agree. We have to do something. We just need to figure out what."she finally allowed the words come out if her mouth. "And how is an arrogant beast going to stop and arrogant alpha?" Olive's comment caught Lord Grey off guard, and he couldn't help but laugh, despite the gravity of the situation. "Okay, okay, point taken," he said, trying to suppress his grin. "But seriously, we need to do something about this. This can't go on. It's not right." Olive's expression turned serious, and he nodded. "I know. I agree. I just... don't know what we can do. The alphas are too powerful. They have too much influence." Lord Grey sighed, his brow furrowing once more. "Maybe we can talk to someone outside of the school. " You mean your father?" Olive questioned with sarcasm in his tone while Grey rolled his eyes at the sarcasm. "We can't just go storming into the community, demanding action," Olive said. "We'll just come off as arrogant and entitled, and no one will take us seriously. We need to be smart about this, and build up our credibility before we start trying to make big changes." Lord Grey ran a hand through his hair, frustrated. "I know, I know. But we can't just stand by and do nothing. That's not who we are." Olive placed a hand on his shoulder, his expression sympathetic. "I know. I'm not saying we shouldn't do anything. I'm just saying we need to. As Lord Grey paced back and forth, trying to come up with a solution, Olive couldn't help but notice how self-important he seemed. It was clear that he believed himself to be the only one capable of solving this problem. He seemed to have no patience for anyone else's input, and it was clear that he was used to getting his way. It was Grey afterall and Olive was not surprised by his actions at all. As Gauz strode into the cafeteria, the room went silent. The students stopped talking and turned to look at him, a mix of fear and respect in their eyes. He had a commanding presence, and it was clear that he was not someone to be trifled with. His white hair and beard added to his air of authority, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into the students. "What is the meaning of this?" he asked, his voice low and stern. "What are you doing?" The alphas shuffled their feet, their bravado slipping away in the face of Gauz's authority. Olive and Grey were marvelled by the alphas sudden change of behavior. They had thought that even Gauz would not be able to give them cold feet "We... were just messing around," Ethan mumbled, his eyes fixed on the floor. "We didn't mean any harm." Gauz's expression didn't change. "Messing around?" he repeated, his tone incredulous. "You were clearly trying to intimidate another student. This is not 'messing around.' It is a serious offense, and I will not tolerate it. You will all be disciplined for your actions." The alphas shifted nervously, their bravado completely gone. They had not expected Gauz to be so harsh, and they were regretting their actions. Lord Grey watched as the alphas slunk away, clearly cowed by Gauz's words. He couldn't help but feel a little smug, pleased that they had been put in their place. But then he looked at Gauz, and his smugness faded. There was something about the way Gauz carried himself, something that made Lord Grey feel like he was being judged. He felt like he had to prove himself, to show Gauz that he was just as capable and worthy as anyone else. He cleared his throat, trying to shake off the feeling. "Thank you for stepping in," he said, trying to sound confident when he walked up to Gauz "You don't need to thank me," Gauz said, not even looking at Lord Grey as he turned to leave. "It is my responsibility to see to it that all students maintain discipline and order. You would do well to remember your place, and not talk to me with this tone of familiarity next time young lord Grey. He said adjusting his spectacles again." Lord Grey bristled at Gauz's words, feeling a surge of anger and resentment. He clenched his fists, trying to keep his temper under control. He had never been spoken to like that before, and he wasn't sure how to react. A part of him wanted to shout back, to defend himself, but another part of him knew that it would be futile. Further more, he did not want to start the school on a wrong note with bad words reaching his father. A few moments after Gauz had left, the sound of clicking heels echoed through the cafeteria. A tall, beautiful vampire girl with piercing green eyes and long, flowing black hair entered the room. She walked with grace and confidence, and seemed completely at ease in the sea of students. She was dressed in a dark green gown that hugged her curves, and her skin was so pale that it seemed to glow in the light. Every eye in the room was on her, but she paid them no mind. She headed straight for the table where Olive sat, her gaze fixed on him.
