Chapter Thirteen

Jack and I went to the club to help set up our little party. We kept busy by setting up the bar and making sure the kitchen had everything they needed. The DJ got set up as the workers started to pile into the club. We went over the details of the night that way announcements were made at the time that we would like them too.

Abby walked into the club, “Baby Girl.” I smiled, “Abby.” She gave me a hug as Jack walked over, “You know Abby you are lucky.” She lifted her eyebrow, “And how is that? Mr. Jackson.” I rolled my eyes, “Oh boy. Here we go.” Jack laughed, “I call you the love of my life Baby Girl because she is my Baby Girl.”

She laughed, “Oh stop that Jack. You know I have her nickname first.” He winked at her as he placed his arm around my waist, “That is right you did but then I claimed as my own.” She laughed as I lifted my eyebrow, “Wait? Did I miss something here with this nickname of mine?” Jack smiled at Abby, “Should you tell her or I?”

I looked at her as she started to laugh, “Remember when you went to the bathroom before I went dancing the night that you met Jack?” I nodded to her as she smiled, “Well, Jack stopped me in the hallway on my way back asking about you. He asked for your name and I asked him if he was talking about my Baby Girl then pointed to you as you came out. He thanked me and ran off.”

I looked up at the ceiling trying to remember what she was talking about, “Oh, that was you that was talking to her. I knew something was up. Why didn’t you tell me?” Jack shrugged his shoulders, “We had like an inside joke.” Abby smiled, “I knew he would tell you one day how he started calling you baby girl.”

I tilted my head, “I need to know was that before or after you looked for me on the dance floor.” He smiled, “Before. I was hoping that she was a little more forthcoming than she was.” I laughed but found it cute that he was trying to get to know me right away. Jack leaned over and gave me a kiss on my temple, “Baby Girl, there is Leo.” He pointed as Leo was walking into the club, “I am going to go say hi. Why don’t you and Abby go sit. I don’t want to see your feet get too swollen.”

He gave me a kiss then I followed Abby to our table that was near the stage. We were joined by family and close friends. Melinda sat next to me, “How have you been feeling?” I placed my hands on my stomach, “Starting to feel like a balloon.” She laughed, “You are really starting to show. It is amazing how fast this is going by.” I smiled and nodded, “Yes, it is. Time is just flying by. We were wrapped in our conversation around the table when the DJ made an announcement that Jack and I had something to share.

Jack and I walked onto the stage as Jack took the lead since my emotions have been all over the place. Jack took the microphone, “Good evening everyone. I want to first thank everyone that came to share our special day with us.” He smiled at me, “Couple things that Monica and I would like to share with our family and friends. Monica and I have been helping a young lady out to help find an adopter for her baby. She is young and has been through a lot that she made the tough decision to place the baby up for adoption. We had trouble finding the right fit for the baby.”

He looked up at the ceiling, “Sorry everyone, my soon to be wife’s hormones are rubbing off on me.” Everyone chuckled as he went on, “It dawned on us that we had become close with the mom and have already accepted her and the baby into our family. We realized that we have a lot of love to give even with a baby on the way.” He winked at me when he said a baby, “We wanted to see this baby in a good home and decided to ask to adopt the baby. The mom has agreed, and the process has started for the day he is born for us to become his parents.” Everyone cheered and raised their glasses.

Jake placed his hand up to quite the crowd down, “But there is more. To our surprise that our family can’t grow quick enough. We are not only blessed with one baby but two babies.” You heard everyone gasp as Jack smiled, “That is right Monica is having Twins.” The glasses were raised up again as our family and friends cheered.

Jack handed the microphone to Abby and Jack smiled at me as I whispered to him as he wrapped his arms around my stomach, “Jack, what is she doing?” He placed his finger on my mouth, “Just listen. You may like this.” Abby winked at us, “Since we are dropping surprises after surprises, I felt a little left out.” I chuckled as she held her hand out to Rick. I looked at Jack, “No, He didn’t.” Jack chuckled as he told me to hush as Abby talked, “I got two surprises myself. I think Rick and I got jealous of all the attention our best friends Monica and Jack have been getting lately.” I stuck my tongue at her as she did the same in return, “Rick and I realize that we share the same type of love for each other as they do. It is rare and special. Rick asked me a week ago to marry him and I said yes. And….”

I looked at her in shock, “And she is not?” I looked at Jack as he shook his head, “Shhh, Baby girl.” She held Rick’s hand, “Last week I found out that I am pregnant!” I jumped up as I ran to her and gave her a hug, “I can’t believe it.” She smiled at me, “Believe it Baby girl.” Jack walked over to give him a hug as I whispered, “I think this is the first time we have seen these two hug like that.” She laughed, “Oh my god, they got tears in their eyes.”

The rest of the night went with chit chat with family and friends. Abby asked me to be her maid of honor in which I was happy to accept Jack as the best man.

I looked around the club feeling happy. We were all happy. We just didn’t realize how close danger was not far from us and was going to change one of our lives. And turned it completely upside down.
