Chapter Sixteen

1906 Words
It has been a year and half since I lost my Baby Girl. The kids are growing so quickly as I spend as much time as I possibly can with them. As much of a good father I am, I have to thank for the help that Carol and Cindy has been through all of this. I lost my soul mate. Abby and Rick have helped me keep everything together by helping me adjust to having two businesses. Monica left everything to me as well as some assets to them. I felt like she knew that this was going to happen based on how she placed everything together to be disrupted the way it did.   I sat at my desk at the newly named RoseMay in honor of Monica's last wishes. As my assistance knocked on my door, “Mr. Jackson. Your new intern is here to see you. I think you will be really interested in meeting her.” I raised my eyebrow at her, “I am sure I will be you can send her in, Thank you.” I heard a click of heels come into my office as she said, “It is nice to meet you, Mr. Jackson.”   I peeked up over my laptop as a young version of Monica stood in front of me as I whispered loudly, “Monica?” She smiled at me, “Sorry, No. I am Megan Smith. May I ask who Monica is?” I shook my head as I can’t get it out of my head on how much she looked like Monica,   My Baby Girl. Megan’s Perspective: Mr. Jackson lifted his eyebrow at me as I can tell that he was thinking something as he held out his hand for me to take a seat, “Sorry, Megan Smith. Let me grab your application.” He opened the file as he nodded his head, “Twenty-five and just graduated from college but with a Masters.” I nodded my head, “Top student in my all class in General Business. I even doubled up my classes so I could finish early.” He shook his head as he whispered, “Just like Monica.”   I shook my head as I looked at him puzzled, “Sir You keep on saying Monica.” He didn’t respond to me, just leaned forward and eyeballed me up and down like he was searching for something. I tilted my head, “Mr. Jackson?” He shook his head, “Sorry, please call me Jack. My father is Mr. Jackson.” I giggled a little as he got up from his chair and walked to the front of the desk, “Why did you want to work at RoseMay.”   I thought to myself how I could answer this since there was little information about the CEO, like he wasn’t the CEO of the company. But what Ms. Winters did for the others before she passed was amazing and Mr. Jackson kept it going. I smiled at him, “It was Ms. Winters that inspired me.” He looked down at me as he smirked. I smirked back to him, “What she did for the company and others. Mr. Jackson.” He blushed, “Jack, Please.” I whispered back to him, “Sorry, Jack.” He stared at me as if I were a prey and he was the hunter. He looked like he wanted to eat me, “Welcome to the team. I am sure you will fit right in.”   He held out his hand for me to shake, “We are like family here. In which, there is a party that I would like to invite you to. It is an anniversary party.” I smiled, “Great, I will think about it.” He lifted his eyebrow, “Please come, the whole office will be there. It would be a great way for you to meet the team.” I nodded to him, “If the whole office is coming then count me in.” I tried to hind the fear in my eyes on how I am going to explain that my new hot boss is asking me out to a party. “Where is the party.” He smiled as he handed me a card, “The club is called Thirsty.” I nodded as I held up the card then placed in my pocket.   I held my hand out to him then he grabbed me by my wrist and pulled me into his embrace. He smelled like cinnamon and peppermint. I looked into his eyes and it looked like he was studying mine. I felt that he felt he was lost. I whispered as I held my head up to his face, “Jack?” He snapped out of the trans that he was in. He cleared his throat as he stepped back and shook my hand, “That will be all Ms. Smith.”   He started walking back to his desk as I started to walk towards the door when he called out my name, “Megan?” I turned around as he smirked, “You dating or married?” I looked down and said, “I am seeing someone.” He sighed, “Bring him too. I will add you and a plus one on the list for tonight.” I cringe trying to convince my boyfriend to go with me, “I will ask.” He tilted his head as I turned away to walk out of his office.   I sat back at my desk thinking to myself that I was glad Jack asked me to bring Adam with me. If I told Adam that I could bring him then it would end in a fight. I hate fighting with him, and I don’t have anywhere to go. He is my shelter. The rest of the day went well. I was able to avoid Jack all day. After this morning's interactions, I felt that it was better that way.   I get home and Adam is already trying to start a fight, “Please, Adam Don’t. I have a party later.” He held my arms hard against the wall, “What do you mean, you have a party?” I looked away from him, “A work party.” I couldn’t tell him that it was a personal event that the office is going to. Adam placed his teeth against the skin of my neck as he started to bite down, “Do we have to?” I pushed him off, “Yes, it is a good way for me to get to know my co-workers.”   He pushed me back up against the wall, “I told you that I didn’t want you to get a job.” I shook my head as I started to cry, “I know but I need this.” I tilted my head to him, “You are gone all day. I know no one in this city. This way I am working and doing my own thing.” He slid his hands down to my wrist and pulled them over my head as he smirked, “I can’t believe that you have a job with no pay.”   I shook my head and placed my wrist into one hand, “It's called an internship for a reason.” I lied that it was a nonpaying internship so I can start saving money to get a way for him. Adam started to slide his other hand down my pants as I cried, “Please Adam. Don’t.” He planted his mouth on my breast and snaked his teeth into my skin as I screamed for him to stop. He backed away, “Fine we will go to this stupid party.”   Couple of hours later we were taking an uber to Thirsty as Adam looked me up and down, “I can’t believe you wore that dress. It makes you look like a slut.” I looked down as the uber driver lifted his eyebrow in the rear-view mirror, “I didn’t think it looked that bad.” I had a black dress with a V shape cut in the front and in the back. It was a little short but not that bad. I turned my head to Adam avoiding eye contact, “I only wore it for you.” He chuckled, “Yay, Sure you did.”   The Uber stopped, “Here is your stop. Please enjoy your night.” Adam stormed out of the Uber as I reached into my purse, “Adam, Hold on. I am tipping the driver.” He poked his head back into the car, “Where did you get money?” I thought to myself “Shit.” I shook my head with a great answer, “I sold some of my textbooks back to the college.” He shook his head and stood at the door, “Whatever, just hurry up.” I handed the drive fifty dollars which was all the money I had until my first paycheck.   The driver took the tip, “Thank you Miss. You know you remind me of someone?” I shook my head, “I do?”  He nodded, “I can’t place it, I am sure I will sooner or later.” He sighed, “Little advice sweetheart, Talk to Rick if that guy bothers you too much. He will take care of that dumb ass really quick.” I nodded as he winked, “You do look beautiful, nothing like a slut at all.” I smiled as Adam tapped his foot, “What are you doing? Flirt with the driver or what. Let’s go.” I looked back at the drive, “ask for Rick you say.”   He gave me a wink when I turned around as Adam took my wrist and pulled me to the door with where a bouncer stood, “Adam, Slow down you are hurting me.” He leaned down, “I will hurt you more if you don’t behave tonight, plus I don’t want to be here too long.” I rolled my eyes as the tall muscular man looked down at us, “Welcome to Thirsty. I am Rick. May I have your name?” I smirked at him, “Yes Megan Smith.” Rick looked down at the tablet, “And did you place down a plus one?” Adam rolled his eyes as he snarled, “Of course she has a plus one.” Rick lifted his eyebrow as I looked away in fear, “Oh, here you are Ms. Smit and her plus one.” He winked at me as he opened the door for us.   The club was packed as the DJ played from the stage in front. Adam looked around, “How many damn employees does this place have.” I shrugged my shoulders, “I don’t know.” I looked around and spotted Jack. He looked better than he did early. I tried to not get him to notice me when it was too late as he made a Beeline right to me, “Ms. Smith, I am so glad you took my invitation. We are in the VIP section if you like to join the rest of the office.”   He smiled as he leaned towards me, “I must say you look very nice tonight.” I blushed as Adam's eyes got dark, “Wait. I thought you said this was a work invite. Not some stiff.” Before I could say anything, Jack gave a sharp look. I shook my head in embarrassment, “Jack this is my boyfriend Adam. Adam this is...” Jack interrupted me, “This stiff name is Jack Jackson the owner of RoseMay. The place that Megan here works at.” Adam fingers wrapped around into a fist, “Whatever, Megan we need to talk, outside.” I looked at Jack in fear and I felt that he knew it, “S... Sure honey.” Adam placed his hand on my arm then dragged me to the door, “Adam, you are hurting me, again.” I looked back to see Jack talking to Rick as they watched Adam pull me out of the club.
