Chapter : 2. The new world..

Alice's point of view :- ------------------------------- This is not the world our parents were born into. It’s way different from before because now the werewolves rule on earth. Not as the kings and queens, or as alphas or lunas, but as the strongest and powerful ones. Since their existence came out, they took over everything. Every job, every company, every business, making their way only up. Defeating them became impossible due to their extra strength and immunity. They can go on for days without sleep or food and it’s hard to distract their attention from their goal. And going against them only started costing lives. So, in the end, we humans lost everything while they took over our lives. There are now four stages in society. On the top are the alphas, who are the strongest werewolf of all. They are the billionaires of earth with everything anyone can ever wish for, and untouchables. Then comes the betas and gammas who work under the alphas and they have taken over all the prestigious places in jobs. Third are the rest of the werewolves, always trying to make their way up by their hard works. And last of all comes the humans. The lowest ones of the society, only living to serve the werewolves. We get the remaining jobs to somehow feed ourselves. The jobs which they don’t like to do because it makes their reputation low. Hi. My name is Alice Vega and I am one of those humans, barely surviving in the world of werewolves. I lost my parents in childhood because they tried to fight back for my future, like many more. But thankfully I wasn’t starved to death all alone because someone found me and send me to an orphanage where I grew up most of my life. Since that day, Little hearts orphanage is my home. Hector Robinson used to be a priest in a church. But the war made him retire from his service to god and open up arms for the little souls who lost everything in it. He is the one taking care of the orphanage all alone. I am now a grown up. I turned eighteen two months ago. I was supposed to leave the orphanage by sixteen, which is the basic age for labours in the new world. But I stayed along to help the kids who lives in the orphanage. Father Hector can’t take care of all of them alone. I have seen him struggle to put food on the kids plates because in the new world, no one wants to help some weak humans to live. We are practically worthless to them. So, I had to stay back to help him. But look what that brought me in today. I am standing on the altar looking like a broken bride and my groom just fled off because I am a human. Who told him to marry me? I didn’t! I didn’t come to them offering myself or beg to make me a part of their class. They are alphas. I know I could never fit among them because I don’t belong with them. These werewolves think that they can do anything with us. They are playing with me and my emotions. But I can’t do anything about it except stand here with my head low and eyes full of water till their next command. They already tied my hands to do anything. I still remember the day my life turned upside down. I remember how all of it begun.- It started about a month ago when I was still struggling to earn money for the innocent orphan kids. I was working as a nanny in a werewolf family, at day. And at night, I was serving in a bar as a waitress. Things were really serious at the orphanage. The donations stopped coming a few years back. Everything we earn was the only source of survival for all of us. And on top of that, the number of orphan kids kept increasing because the humans can’t afford a child anymore. It started off as a good day for me. Me and my best friend Tessa, who I became friends with in school, got accepted to interview for a modeling agency. If I get this job, it would give me more money and also some spare time to work in another job which will be great news for us. The interview went well, and they told us that we have to wait for a week to get the final results. But the way they were talking, we were sure that they like both of us for the job. Once we got dismissed, the sun was starting to set down, and I was getting late for my night shift at the bar. The bar was just a few blocks away from home. But the place we went to interview was on the other side of the city. Queenstown is a very solitary area and very rich. Most of the people here likes to mind their own business. So, it never bothered me to roam alone through the city or the forest. It’s not like I have someone to accompany me anyway. To save time, I decided to take a shortcut through the forest and reach to my next destination quickly. There’s still light in the sky, which will be enough to help me make my way out on the other side. But little did I know that trouble was waiting for me in the forest. Wrapping my jacket around tightly to save myself from the cold, I was almost halfway to my destination when all of a sudden I heard someone cry. My feet stopped automatically as my ears focused on the noise. It’s a child’s voice. What is a kid doing in the forest at this hour? I forgot all about where I was going and started searching for the kid. Whoever it is, I can’t leave that little soul in a place like this at night. I always have a soft spot for kids. Maybe because I was raised among them all my life. I can do anything to help them, to protect them because they are innocent. And someday I was also saved by someone just like this. I kept tracking the source of the sound as fast as I can. It’s not safe to leave a child alone because there are still some mean people out there who won’t hesitate to hurt a child. I was really worried about this kid. Finally, after looking for a while, I found her. It’s a little girl who is very lightly covered in this cold weather. She is standing in the forest all alone, crying her eyes out. Her hair is a mess and there’s dirt all over her body. How did she end up here like this? “Hi, sweety. Are you okay? Are you hurt? How did you come here? Where’s your parents?” I quickly took off my jacket and covered her to keep her warm. I took her in a hug to calm her down and kept patting her head gently. “Daddy.. I want to go to daddy..” She kept crying and I don’t know what to do. “Yes, you will. I will take you to your daddy. Okay? Stop crying. Please. I am here to help you. Can you tell me what is his name or where is your home? I will take you there.” I gave her a warm smile as she stopped wailing and kept hiccupping. But not for long. A loud howl startled both of us and she began to cry again. So this is it. She was kidnapped by some werewolves and now they are coming for her. I don’t know what they want from this little girl, but it’s obviously not something good. “Shhh.. Don’t cry. I am going to get you out of here. I won’t let them get you. Come on.” I picked her up in my lap and started running in the direction of the city. Once I get out of the forest, I will definitely find someone to help us. I ran as fast as I could, but I know that I can never outrun some werewolves. But I have to try if I want to save her. My heart was pounding louder as the little girl wrapped her hands around my neck tightly. She was really scared, and she took me as her only way of protection. She is now completely relying on me. The more I run through the clear path, the more I can hear the sounds of dried up branches breaking, along with a car’s roar. They are following us. I got a quick idea. If they are following us in the car, the clear path will be an easier way to catch us. But if we get inside the forest, we might get out of their eyes and find some place to hide. So, I did as I thought. I got into the deeper part of the forest. There’s still some light left as the sky has now become red. I kept running and running, holding the girl tightly to my chest. But I was getting tired. My feet are shaking and I kept tripping here and there. I couldn’t go on anymore. Right at that time I found a little cave like place under the rocks. Maybe we can hide in there and pray that they don’t find us. I was huffing very badly. So, covering the girl in my chest, I tried to stay as quiet as possible under those rocks. But I was wrong. They were still following us and they found us. How did I forget that they can smell our scent from way far? By the time I realized that, it was too late. I heard some noise right on top of the rocks we were hiding under. At that time, I could only prepare myself for the upcoming attack. I picked up a rock that was laying beside me and made myself ready to hit anyone who tries to get close to us. A loud growl was enough to make me shake before the werewolf who was following us, jumped right in front of us. By the size of him, I can understand that it’s an alpha wolf. He’s huge with brown fur and a deep black horrifying eyes, snarling towards me with the intention of killing us. “No. I will not let you hurt this little girl. You have to fight with me if you want to get her.” I stood up from my place, pulling the girl behind me to protect. I raised the rock up, gripping it tightly, ready to hit. It made that wolf more angry at me and he kept growling at me to warn. But he can’t make me give up in fear. This little girl is now my responsibility and I will protect her till death. Seeing that I was not giving up, that alpha wolf was about to attack me as I was ready to hit him when the girl screamed out. “No. Daddy… Stop. Don’t hurt her..” Daddy? This wolf is this little girl’s father? I watched silently as she ran out from behind and went to hug the wolf, even though she could only reach to his leg. And the wolf also became quiet and started licking her. So, he is her father. “Josie! Thank goddess you are okay? Oh! I was so scared.” Out of nowhere, another wolf came out along with an old lady and few security guards. They look like her family. I dropped the rock and bowed my head to them to make sure I didn’t offend them. They are alphas and I am just a human. Their girl was with me and I was trying to hit her father so that he can’t take her away. They are definitely going to think I kidnapped the girl. I am doomed one way or another. I watched as her father sat down, allowing the little girl to sit on his back before he took her out of there. The other wolf also followed behind him along with a few men, without any question. Only the old woman stayed behind with just one guard. “So, you are the one who saved our girl?” I nod at her question. “Here is my card. Call me if you ever need something. I am thankful for what you did today. Feel free to ask for anything.” She handed me a card before she also walked out of there with her guard, leaving me all alone in the forest. None of them asked me anything. But I am glad that they didn’t question me. So, I was once again on my way to my work, grabbing my jacket the little girl left behind.
