Only for that investigation to already be complete. Appearing like he’d been summoned the being appeared like ash on the wind. He smelled of a burnt vanilla and cinnamon, and the words that tumbled from beautiful lips caressed the air in a deep voice, “I actually have something to add to that.” It was Nostradamus Valik’s greeting as he lifted his head. Not alarmed, neither Eva or Elder Solar stopped him as he came forward and presented what he had. Throwing down a huge bag like it was Santa’s sack, Nostradamus’ head went to the side, and he looked at David with a judging eye, “You and Bartha Mae had a thing huh?” All eyes landed on David at the announcement. Including his wife’s who raised an eyebrow making him flush a little uncomfortable. “No of course not. Don’t do that.” He turned away only to watch Elder Solar raise an eyebrow too and he groaned rolling his eyes, “I said I’d be her boyfriend like almost three decades ago. We hadn’t even gone on a date when a week later Eloise turned of age, and we found each other.” Nostradamus made a noise of disbelief that at any time anyone found the miserable bat attractive as he surmised, “Ew. Well, you left an impression on her as scorned lover David. Must have been a torrid week affair.” Confused, David defended himself as his wife started to ask if it had been, only he knew like hell it hadn’t. “Now wait a second, me and Bartha Mae hadn’t gone out officially or done anything. We were children and in our times, we didn’t hump for sport.” Nostradamus gave a very I definitely do type wink making the man blush before quickly saying, “Like I said, Eloise came of age before even a date could happen. So it hadn’t seemed like a big deal when I ended things. I told her what happened, she didn’t say much but I figured she understood, I thought everything was fine between our houses in the end.” Only they secretly had not. “What’s this even about son?” Waving to the sack, Nostradamus explained, “Well I went to the post office on the mission of the letters/attempts at contact never received and I found someone guarding their little secret.” Surprised, David reached in and found letters. Little and medium sized boxes for different holidays like birthdays or Christmas. Seeing his daughter’s artwork, sketched, painted or even collaged on to them, David’s fingers gently ran over line like it could rewind time. “Oh goddess no.” He gently picked up another letter, “She’s truthfully been writing and sending things all this time?” Nostradamus nodded as he explained a riveting tale of having to get into the Post Office after Bartha had blocked him last time he’d gone in the front door. “She was being sketchy and so aggressive about Katherine not seeing anything. I can read anyone, and she wasn’t just annoyed at having to work for a change, she wasn’t liking that I was asking about Katherine. I saw it in her eyes, and it stunk.” Especially since he’d felt her aggravation later when her body kept trying to move something. Entuned to her and feeling her intent to burn whatever it was, he’d made a split decision and forced wariness on her. Making her decide to come back early in the morning to do it instead, Nostradamus had waited for her to leave. Not sharing with the elder, therapist, or prudish old people how he’d gotten in, Nostradamus had thought the building would be empty. Shaking off his usual demeanor and wanting to go in quiet instead of loud, he’d used a skill he hadn’t thought of breaking out. Seduction. Not intimidating the man who drove to the nearest human city to pick up their mail, the being had felt him approached and smiled. Just as tall and built, the huge men moved to a back room and Nostradamus got pleasure in trading a favor for a favor. So, when they’d finished and he wanted to leave, he asked for it and while confused the handsome satyr hadn’t cared if Nostradamus wanted to poke around the mail storage room and let him. And as Nostradamus went through heaps of stuff covered in the woman’s aura, he started to get frustrated. Trying to single out what he needed, he suddenly realized what he’d been doing wrong. Instead of focusing on the trace of Bartha Mae. And instead looked for Katherine’s and as he tapped into familiar essence, he finally won. Finding the huge sack hidden under sheets and an old printer, he exhaled. And as he saw no one’s signature but Bartha’s. And he had been furious with the old bat when he confronted her with her boss. “I asked her why she did it because it didn’t make sense. She could have gotten my friend killed and for what? Rumors that had nothing to do with her?” Apparently not from what Bartha Mae had to say with her whole chest like she was in the right. “Well from what her Lifetime Movie performance, she basically said she was holding a candle for your “betrayal”. Said you broke her heart and ran off with Eloise without a second thought.” And in revenge, she’d seen their happiness crumble as their daughter was shamed and then abandoned them. Feeling even more vicious when she saw Katherine writing to them, Bartha had gotten her villainous high by hiding Katherine’s letters. Swearing she had only intended for it to be the first couple of times, it was soon she was hiding them all the second they arrived. Furious as the dates and faded papers made his eyes water, David spit out, “We hadn’t even spent time together. How the hell did I break her heart when all she did was stare at me for a year when we were seventeen? Hell after I met Eloise, she met Travis, and we were mated to our true mates. We shared not a moment special enough for her to feel spiteful to me. Not to this extent. How could she do something so disgusting?” Upset as the communication attempts addressed to them piled up, Eloise thickly whispered, “I knew she had a crush on you. I was a year younger and heard the gushing about how you were going to be her boyfriend. When we mated, I hadn’t thought it mattered anymore when you told me you two hadn’t had a date yet. I hadn’t thought there was ever air to clear with her being so friendly when I see her…or maybe.” Eloise sitting back and realizing Bartha Mae had been nice/ nasty, slightly competitive, and all too pleased to make Eloise squirm with trying to embarrass her about Katherine’s situation with Josie Carlin, the moves were clear. And the woman felt stupid as she muttered, “Or better yet, I take that back. She’s always been fake.” Eloise had just blindly ignored it until now. “She’s always been fake towards me and now she’s hidden our daughter’s letters from us! She could have been saying she needed us and we’d have been none the wiser.” Looking to Elder Solar, Eloise hissed, “Can we not do anything about that?” Nostradamus sighed as he supplied, “Well she was fired from the post office.” Stated to be a security risk, the tears of her actual devastation of losing the only thing she had left didn’t feel like a fitting cost for Eloise though. Wanting blood, she had plans of going to the siren’s leader and speaking to her when she turned to her husband. Crying as he read a letter, it was an earlier one. Long and full of details and apologies for things he now knew his daughter shouldn’t have apologized for. Joining him in reading the letters, both parents were immersed in catching up with their daughter. As they were doing so, Eva, Nostradamus, and Elder Solar left them the hut to do so in peace. It was after Elders Solar left to check on his underlings, Eva was passing Nostradamus when she suddenly picked up a vibe from him and turned to face him suddenly, “Hi.” Seeing her greeting him, Nostradamus grinned a little, “Hi.” Trying to give her room out of habit, Nostradamus was surprised when she remembered something, “You know, Kronos asked me once if I’d speak to you. I was open to it and I always was, you just never came to a session.” Nostradamus knew that and nodded as he whispered, “Yeah sorry, I didn’t think then I needed to get my head shrunk at the time.” Only now? Now as a grown man who’d gone through time with more trauma and a lot more to say? Nostradamus knew his pride nor lies that he was “just fine without crying his eyes out on a couch”, could no longer continue. So, with an almost bashful kid like kick to the ground, the peculiar man nodded as he whispered, “I’ll be booking an appointment soon though…there is some things I want to talk out. Get help with.” Smiling happily at the acceptance, Eva promised, “And I’ll be there to listen anytime.” Surprised when she squeezed his shoulder, he felt much better as she beamed at him with the warmth of the sun. Leaving the forest as healing seemed to be in the air.
