Lisa~
I stared at Simon and Mira, my heart threatening to burst from my chest. My breath caught painfully as I watched him smile—that smile he used to give me—now directed at her, like he’d just found the perfect bride.
Did he ask me to dress up just to humiliate me?
My throat tightened.
Was this his plan all along?
How long had they been together? Had I been some pathetic side game while he built a future with my best friend?
No answers. Only questions and a rising wave of shame I couldn't hold back. The tears came freely, no longer something I could stop.“Thank you all for gathering here to support me today,” Simon’s voice echoed across the courtyard like a mockery. He looked proud. Content.
I looked at him and felt nothing but disgust.
“It’s with great happiness that I announce the Luna of Ember Pack… Mira Anderson. I urge you all to respect and honor her, to help her settle into her new role.”
The applause erupted. Mira clutched his arm, glowing with joy. The red gown she wore sparkled under the lights—my gown.
And just like that, I was no one again. Just an omega. Nothing more.
I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think.I slipped away through the servants’ path—one only Simon and I knew. My hands were shaking as I pushed open the door to his private quarters.
“Lisa!” Mira gasped, practically bouncing in place as she saw me. “I’m now Luna!”
I stared at her. My chest hurt so badly I thought I might break apart.
“Congratulations,” I whispered, choking back the storm in my throat. “Where is Simon?”
She frowned for a second. “Simon? You mean the Alpha? Lisa, you shouldn't address him like that anymore. He’s your brother-in-law now. You have to show some respect or people might misunderstand.”Brother-in-law? Respect?
I stared at her like she’d grown horns.
That man… the same man who had taken my virginity, kissed my tears away, promised me the world—now deserves my respect?
“My bad,” I muttered numbly. “I’m sorry.”
“The Alpha went to get something. He’ll be back soon. He’ll be happy to see my sister waiting for him,” she beamed.
Sister. Poor Mira. If only she knew what that title really meant right now.
Just then, the door opened. Simon stepped in and froze when he saw me. I rose to my feet slowly, my body trembling.
“You’re back!” Mira said, rushing to hug him.
I watched the embrace like it was a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.
“This is my sister, Lisa,” she told him proudly.
Simon gave a small nod. No emotion. No guilt.
“Simon,” I said, barely above a whisper. “You said I’d be your Luna. You told me to trust you. You gave me your word, you traitor.”
He remained still.“What did I do wrong? Why lie to me? And why tell me to pick up a dress—the same one Mira’s wearing? You cheated on me. With my sister?”
Mira’s smile faded. “Cheated? What’s going on?”
I turned to her, desperate to explain.
“Mira, Simon here—”
“Please give us a moment,” Simon said, cutting me off.
Mira blinked. “You better be fast with whatever this is,” she muttered before leaving.
The door clicked shut behind her.
“You are such a—” I started, the rage finally bubbling up.“Lisa, stop.” His voice was cold. Sharp. Final.
“You don’t expect me to mate with someone who hasn’t even shifted yet,” he said, each word stabbing deeper than the last.
I froze.
“What?”
“Yes, I cared about you—even though you're just an omega. I wanted you to be my Luna. But how would that look to the pack? A Luna who’s never shifted? How do I know you're not cursed?”
“Simon…” I gasped, the pain hitting me like a physical blow.“The truth hurts, doesn’t it?” he said, his tone almost… smug. “It hurts me too, Lisa. But I have responsibilities. I must give the pack a Luna they can respect.”
“And it had to be Mira?” I choked out. “You didn’t even know she was my sister?”
“I didn’t,” he said.
“How long have you been with her? Don’t lie to me.”
“A year.”
I stepped back like I’d been slapped. “A year?” My voice cracked. “You lied to me for a whole year?”
“I’m not evil,” he replied with a sigh. “I’m simply fulfilling my duty. Now, excuse me.”I watched him walk away, my legs giving out beneath me.
I walked past Mira without saying a word. She looked confused, but I had nothing left to give. I’d explain later… if I ever found the strength.
At home, I collapsed on the bed and let the sobs take over.
“If only you’d awakened,” I whispered to my wolf. “If only you’d shifted… maybe he wouldn’t have rejected me.”
A soft, sad purr echoed inside me.
I hated myself—for being just an omega. For hoping. Maybe I was never meant for good things.
I cried myself to sleep.
The banging on the door jolted me awake.
Mira stormed in, eyes blazing.
“How dare you seduce my man?” she shrieked.
“What?”
“You filthy omega! I brought you in as a sister. And this is how you repay me? By throwing yourself at the Alpha?”
“Mira, no—it’s not what you think—”
“What am I supposed to think?” she spat. “Simon told me everything.”
“That’s a lie! What Simon told y..”
“Simon, Simon, Simon!” she screamed. “Stop calling him that. He’s out of your league. You threw yourself at him like the desperate creature you are.”
“What’s going on here?” the Beta’s voice boomed.
Mira spun to him. “Daddy! It’s Lisa! She tried to seduce the Alpha. She wants to steal him from me.”
“What?” he barked, turning to me.
“Sir, please, I never—”
“Get out!” he thundered. “Pack your things. You and your brother—out of my house! You betrayed the pack!”
I collapsed to my knees, sobbing. My brother came in, confused. But the damage was done.
The Beta left.
Mira leaned in close. “I gave you everything. And you dared dream of being Luna? In your next life, maybe.”
She turned to leave, then stopped.
“That’s exactly why your father was killed,” she whispered.
I froze.
My father?
What did she mean by that?
