strange 15

Chapter 15 Drago POV The next day, we decided to keep the babies apart. It didn’t sit right with either of us, something about it felt… off. Too strange, too soon. We already had enough to deal with. Rogues were getting bolder, attacking too close to home, and someone was clearly after my mate. The last thing we needed was something we couldn’t explain happening with our child. When I brought my mate and our baby home, I could feel the weight of everything pressing down on me. Home was supposed to be safe. It was supposed to be where nothing could touch them, but lately, even that felt uncertain. We took Amber to her room first, just to settle things, but Levonna wasn’t having it. She wanted Amber with us, where she could see her, hear her… protect her. I couldn’t blame her. Honestly, I didn’t want our daughter out of my sight either. So we wheeled the crib into our room and carefully placed little Amber inside. She stirred slightly, letting out a soft sound before settling again. I stood there for a moment longer than I probably should have, just watching her. So small. So innocent. And somehow, already caught in something bigger than any of us understood. I turned when Levonna shifted, moving to help her into bed. She was still weak, still recovering, and it killed me that I couldn’t take all of this away from her. “You need to rest,” I told her quietly, pulling the blankets up around her. She nodded, but her eyes kept drifting to Amber. “She stays with us,” she murmured, her voice firm despite her exhaustion. “She’s not going anywhere,” I reassured her. That seemed to settle her, at least a little. Within minutes, her breathing evened out, and she finally fell asleep. I stayed there longer than I should have, just standing between them, my mate and my daughter, feeling torn in a way I never had before. Every instinct in me screamed to stay, to guard them, to make sure nothing and no one got close. But I couldn’t ignore what was happening. My sister’s words kept replaying in my mind. Mate bond. It didn’t make sense. It wasn’t possible. They were just babies. Bonds didn’t form like that, not this early. Everything I knew told me this was wrong… or at least, not what it seemed. Which meant one thing, I was missing something. I exhaled slowly, running a hand through my hair as I glanced back at them one last time. Leaving them was the last thing I wanted to do, but I needed answers. If there was even the slightest chance that something unnatural was happening, I had to figure it out before it turned into something dangerous. I moved quietly toward the door, making sure not to wake Levonna or Amber. My hand paused on the handle as I looked back again, my chest tightening.,“I’ll fix this,” I muttered under my breath. Whether I was trying to convince them… or myself, I wasn’t entirely sure. Then I stepped out, closing the door softly behind me. I needed to dig into the archives and speak to the elders, anything that could explain what was going on. Because one thing was certain… This wasn’t normal. And if it wasn’t normal, it could be dangerous.
