Chapter 18 Joy’s POV I couldn’t believe what we found. Our babies… bound at birth. That wasn’t supposed to happen, not like this, not so soon. Bonds were sacred, rare… and never forced this early. Something about it felt wrong, like it had been twisted into something unnatural. Fear curled tight in my chest as I looked at them, so small, so innocent… completely unaware of what had been placed on them. Why is this happening to them? My mind raced, searching for answers, for anything that could fix this before it was too late. Bonds like this weren’t just emotional, they were soul-deep. If something went wrong… I swallowed hard, forcing myself to think clearly. “Drago,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt, “we could look for a way to break it. A bond-breaking spell… something ancient. If we can undo it now, and if they’re truly meant to be, they’ll find their way back to each other when they’re older.” Because that’s how true bonds worked… they couldn’t be denied. Not forever. “But right now…” I glanced back at them, my heart aching, “they’re just too young for this.” Drago was quiet for a moment. I could see the war in his eyes, the same one raging inside me. Protect them now… or risk what fate might have intended. Then his jaw tightened with resolve. “What are you waiting for?” he said firmly. “Let’s find one.” Relief and fear mixed together as I nodded. There was no time to waste. Ancient magic like this didn’t just appear out of nowhere. Someone had done this… or something had interfered in ways we didn’t yet understand. Either way, we were going to fix it. I turned, already moving, my mind shifting through every text, every legend, every forbidden piece of knowledge I had ever come across. Because if there was even the smallest chance to give our children a choice… I would take it. We searched everywhere for the spell—every book we could think of. Shelves were torn apart, pages flipped in desperation, but nothing gave us the answers we needed… until Drago let out a low, dangerous growl.I turned quickly and walked over to him. “What’s wrong?” I asked, my voice tight with worry. He didn’t answer right away. In his hands was a book. Not just any book… an old one. Ancient. The kind of book that felt wrong just being near it. My stomach dropped as I looked closer, my breath catching. “Drago…” I whispered, barely able to get the words out. “That’s— ”“A book of forbidden spells,” he finished for me, his voice dark and uneasy.Spells no one was ever supposed to see.Yet somehow… it was right here, in our hands. I swallowed hard, my mind racing. “How is that even possible?”
