Chapter 19
Drago pov
I can't believe this, I've had many books here, some centuries old, others new, but I never thought I would come into my own library and find these symbols that only centuries Elders knew about, It made me wonder who it got here in my home, how long has it been here, did my parents know it was here, I doubt they did, my father would had told me about this, I flipped through the pages, then stopped at one passage, it said, those who hold thy book, you will have to keep secret, ye can never tell thou who has it, than i read the spell that as underneath it, it was a spell that would break a birthing bond between two babies, but it will only work until the age of 15, Looking up at Joy, I told her,
“He won’t know that they are mates until he's sixteen, He will feel a pull toward her, be protective, but that's all, but for her, I need to do this with her,”
“Drago, He already feels it. How else do you think he keeps wanting to be near her, we have to do both babies,”,“it's not going to hurt them,”
I didn't know about this, I honestly didn't. I was worried, What would Levonna think? If she wants to do this,
“ I need to talk to Levoona about this.”
“Talk to me about what? what's going on?” We both turned when we heard her voice, than I brought her over to the book to read it,"I've been wondering where you were, I didn't even know these scrolls were down here,” then her eyes saw the page, she leaned down to read what was being said on it, she looked back up at us,
Her eyes lifted from the page slowly, but I could already see the storm building behind them. Not anger… not fully. Fear. The kind that grips a parent when something touches their child in a way they can’t control.
“You’re telling me,” she said quietly, her voice steady but tight, “that our daughter is bound… already? Before she even understands what that means?”
I swallowed hard, my grip tightening on the ancient book. “It’s a birthing bond,” I explained, trying to keep my tone calm. “Rare… old magic. According to this, it ties them from the moment they come into the world. It’s not a full mate bond yet, but it will be if we leave it.”
Joy stepped closer to her, softer, more careful. “We found a way to break it. Just until they’re older. If it’s real… if it’s meant to be, they’ll find each other again. But right now? They don’t have a choice.”
Levonna looked back down at the page, her fingers brushing over the worn symbols as if she could feel the magic beneath them. “And
if we do this…” she whispered, “what happens to them?”
I exhaled slowly. “He won’t know. Not truly. Not until he turns sixteen. He might feel drawn to her, protective… but nothing overwhelming.” I hesitated before continuing, my voice lowering. “For her… the spell says we have to be more careful. The bond is stronger on her side.”
Silence fell between us, heavy and suffocating.
Finally, she looked up at me, this time with something sharper in her eyes. Determination..“Will it hurt her?”
That question hit harder than anything else. I shook my head, though doubt still lingered deep inside me.
“The spell doesn’t say it will. It only warns that it must be done in secrecy… and with both children present. It’s not dark magic, Levonna. Just… old.”
She studied me for a long moment, like she was searching for any crack in my words. Any sign that I wasn’t completely sure.Because I wasn’t. Her gaze softened slightly as she looked between Joy and me.
“You both believe this is the right thing to do?”
Joy nodded first. “I do. They deserve a choice.”
Levonna turned back to me..I hesitated… then gave a firm nod. “I won’t force a lifetime on them before they can even speak for themselves.”, Another silence. Then…
“Then we do it.” Her words were quiet but final. She placed her hand over the page, right on top of the spell, as if sealing the decision.
“But,” she added, her voice turning fierce, “if anything happens to her..anything at all…this spell ends immediately. I don’t care how old or powerful it is.”
A small, relieved breath left my chest. “Agreed.”
Joy gave a soft smile. “We’ll do it together.”
I looked back down at the book, the ancient symbols seeming to. glow faintly under the dim light. For centuries, this knowledge had stayed hidden. And now… it was in our hands. “Then we prepare,” I said quietly.
