chapter 20 Levonna pov Waking up, I thought that Drago would be here, but he wasn't, he must had been in his office, since he had a lot of work to do, that's what he told me, I carefully got up, I was healed, but i was still sore, thats natural after having a child, no matter if you are human or not, you're going to be sore when you have a child, I made sure Amber was okay before i went looking for him, he wasn't in his office, where in the world is he, fine, i'll just follow his scent, So, that’s what i did, i followed his scent to a room that had weird symbols on the door, what in the world is this, Walking into the room, I saw scrolls on top of scrolls, and i saw many books that look old, I heard Drago talking to someone, telling them that he needed to speak with me first, I walked over there and said “Talk to me about what? what's going on?” Drago turned quickly, his eyes widening slightly like he hadn’t expected me to find him here. The woman he was speaking to stepped back, lowering her head respectfully before slipping out of the room without another word. That alone made my stomach twist…whatever this was, it wasn’t small. “Levonna… you shouldn’t be up yet,” Drago said, stepping toward me, his voice softer now, but there was tension underneath it. I crossed my arms, ignoring the dull ache in my body. “Don’t do that. Don’t try to distract me. What is this place? And why do you look like you’ve been caught doing something you shouldn’t be?” His jaw tightened, and for a moment he didn’t answer. That silence told me more than words ever could..I glanced around again, really taking it in this time. The symbols on the walls weren’t just random, they pulsed faintly, like they held power. The air itself felt heavier in here, almost like it was pressing against my skin. “These… aren’t normal books,” I said quietly, walking over to one of the tables. I ran my fingers lightly over an old scroll, feeling the energy humming through it. “Drago… what is this?” He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “They’re ancient spells. Ones that were sealed away for a reason.” My heart dropped. “Sealed away… why?” “Because they’re dangerous,” he admitted. “Some of them were never meant to be used again.” I turned to face him fully now, my chest tightening. “And yet… here you are.” His eyes met mine, filled with something I didn’t like..worry… fear. “I didn’t come here for no reason, Levonna.” That’s when it hit me. My breath caught, and my hand instinctively went to my chest. “This is about Amber… isn’t it?” He didn’t answer right away, and that was enough. “Drago…” my voice softened, but there was panic creeping in now. “What’s wrong with our daughter?” “There’s nothing wrong with her,” he said quickly, stepping closer, placing his hands on my shoulders. “She’s perfect. But… there’s something we don’t understand yet.” I searched his face. “Then explain it to me.” He hesitated again before finally saying, “When she was born… there was a surge of magic. Not just any magic, ancient magic. The kind that hasn’t been seen in centuries.” I felt my heart start to race. “What does that mean?” “It means,” he said carefully, “she may be tied to something much bigger than we thought.” My stomach dropped. “Tied… how?” His gaze flickered toward the books behind me. “That’s what I’m trying to figure out before anyone else does.” I turned back to the scrolls, suddenly seeing them differently, not just old, forgotten things… but answers. Or maybe something worse. “And if you don’t figure it out in time?” I asked quietly. Drago’s voice lowered, darker now. “Then someone else will… and they won’t protect her the way we will.” A chill ran down my spine. I looked back at him, my fear slowly turning into determination. “Then we don’t let that happen.” He studied me for a moment, then gave a small nod. “Together,” I added firmly. This time, there was no hesitation when he answered. “Together.” Joy came from around the corner, why is she here? She must have found something, she puts a book down, …I looked back up at them, my heart starting to race. “What is this?” I asked, my voice quieter now, almost afraid of the answer. Drago ran a hand through his hair, something he only did when he was stressed. That alone made my stomach tighten. “These aren’t just old scrolls, Levonna,” he said carefully. “They’re forbidden. Sealed away for a reason.” I looked back down at the page, forcing myself to actually read the words instead of just skimming them. My breath caught. “A binding spell…?” I whispered. The other man, one of Drago’s most trusted advisors, stepped forward. “Not just any binding spell. This one… it ties souls at birth.” My chest tightened instantly. “No… no, that’s not possible.” Drago’s eyes softened, but there was something heavy behind them. “It is. And we think, ” he hesitated, like even saying it out loud would make it worse, “we think this might be what’s happening to our daughter… and the others.” I felt like the ground shifted under me.,“No,” I said again, shaking my head, backing up a step. “Amber is just a baby. She shouldn’t be tied to anyone yet. That’s not how it works.” “I know,” he said quickly, stepping toward me. “That’s why this is wrong. This spell… it forces a bond before its time.” I looked back down at the page, my hands starting to tremble as I read further. Irreversible… unless broken by, My eyes scanned faster. “Unless broken by what?” I demanded. Joy spoke this time, her voice low. “A counter-spell. But it’s just as dangerous… maybe more.” Silence filled the room. I slowly looked up at Drago, fear settling deep in my chest. “You brought me here because you’re thinking about using it,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.,He didn’t answer right away. And that was answer enough. My heart clenched. “That could hurt her,” I said, tears starting to form. “She’s too young, Drago. What if it breaks more than the bond? What if it…” “I would never risk her,” he cut in, but his voice wasn’t as certain as I needed it to be. “But we can’t ignore this either. If she’s bound now… she doesn’t get a choice later.” That hit me harder than anything else. Choice. Our daughter… forced into something before she could even understand it. I looked back at the book, then at Drago. “What does the spell say exactly?” I asked, steadier now, even though my chest still felt tight. “All of it. No holding back.” If we were going to face this… I needed to know everything. “And what does it cost?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, but sharp enough to cut through the tension in the room. The air went still. Drago didn’t answer right away. That alone told me everything I needed to know. “Drago…” I pressed, turning to fully face him now, my eyes locking onto his. “Nothing like this comes without a price. So tell me, what. does. it. cost.” Joy hesitated, glancing at him before finally speaking, her voice careful. “It won’t harm Amber… not physically. The spell is designed to sever the bond before it roots too deeply.” “That’s not what I asked,” I snapped, the protective instinct in me rising fast now. “What does it take from her?” Drago stepped closer, reaching for my hands, but I pulled them back, not ready for comfort, only truth. “It could affect her wolf… or her dragon,” he admitted quietly. “The text isn’t clear. Bonds like this… they’re tied to more than emotion. They’re tied to soul magic. Breaking it early might delay parts of her awakening. Maybe her first shift… maybe her connection to her mate later in life.” My heart clenched.,“And if we don’t break it?” I asked, already fearing the answer. Joy answered this time. “Then the bond grows with them. It strengthens. By the time they’re old enough to understand it… it won’t matter. The pull will be absolute. They won’t choose each other, they’ll need each other.” I turned away from them, my arms wrapping around myself as I tried to steady the storm inside me. My baby. My little girl who had just come into this world… already tied to someone she didn’t know. Already being claimed by something she didn’t choose. “That’s not right,” I whispered. “That’s not how it’s supposed to be.” “No,” Drago said softly behind me. “It’s not.” Silence stretched between us again, heavy and suffocating. I looked back down at the page, at the ancient symbols that now felt less like knowledge… and more like a threat. “And the other child?” Alpha, I asked suddenly. “What happens to him if we break it?” Joy hesitated again. “The bond breaks on both sides. Alpha will feel the loss… even if he doesn’t understand it.” A sharp breath left my chest. Two children…Two innocent lives… tangled in something ancient and powerful. No choice would leave them untouched. I closed my eyes for a moment, then opened them again, resolving slowly replacing the fear. “She will not be forced into a life she didn’t choose,” I said firmly, my voice stronger now. “I won’t allow it. Not even by fate. Not even by magic.”
