Chapter 5
Drago POV
Everyone was having a good time at my sister’s house. There was laughter, talking, and the kind of warmth that made the place feel alive. We had pizza laid out across the table, and I did my best to ignore the one the women were eating. It smelled… off to me. Not bad exactly, just strange, almost fishy. It's definitely not something I was willing to try. After we finished eating, we all made our way into the nursery. The second I stepped inside, I couldn’t help but laugh.
Joy shook her head, looking around. “Randy went completely overboard with the baby clothes.”
She wasn’t wrong. There were tiny outfits everywhere, folded, hung, stacked, like the baby was going to change ten times a day. Randy just grinned, proud of himself, while the rest of us teased him.
It felt good being there. Normal. Easy. But something wasn’t sitting right with me. I glanced over at Levonna. She wasn’t laughing like the rest of us. Her eyes kept drifting toward the window, her body tense like she was listening for something the rest of us couldn’t hear. I stepped closer to her, lowering my voice.
“Hey… what’s wrong, honey? Do you feel something?”
She hesitated, wrapping her arms around herself as a small shiver ran through her. “I’m not sure,” she admitted quietly. “It feels like… like someone is watching us.”
That immediately put me on edge. My senses sharpened, instincts kicking in fast. I turned my head slightly, scanning the room, then the window. Everything looked normal, but that didn’t mean anything.
“What do you mean watching us?” I asked, my voice dropping.
She shook her head, uneasy.
“I don’t know… I just feel it. It’s like something’s out there. And it’s not… good.”
A low growl built in my chest before I could stop it. I stepped in front of her slightly, placing myself between her and the window. My eyes narrowed as I stared out into the darkness beyond the glass. The yard looked still, too still. “Stay close to me,” I muttered.
The light, happy mood from earlier? Gone. Something was out there. And whatever it was… it already knew we were here.
Levonna POV
I didn’t know what was going on. At first, everything felt normal, calm, and even peaceful, but something shifted. It was subtle at first, like a whisper at the back of my mind. Then, it grew louder.
I felt… off. My eyes kept drifting to the windows without me, meaning to, like something out there was pulling my attention. The air felt heavier, thicker, and a chill crawled down my spine so sharply it made me shiver. It wasn’t just nerves. This felt real.
Like someone was watching. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to shake the feeling, but it wouldn’t go away. If anything, it got worse. My heart started beating faster, my instincts screaming at me that something wasn’t right. Drago noticed. He always notices.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice low but alert, already scanning my face like he could read every thought I was trying to hide.
“I… I don’t know,” I admitted, my voice quieter than I meant it to be. “It just feels like… like someone’s out there. Watching us.”
The words hung in the air, heavy and unsettling. Drago didn’t brush it off. He never would. His expression hardened instantly, his body going tense as he turned toward the windows. Randy followed his gaze without hesitation, the shift in the room immediately. what had been a relaxed visit just moments ago now felt like the calm before something dangerous. Both of them moved closer to the windows, scanning the outside carefully. I held my breath. For a moment, everything was silent… too silent. And somehow, that made it worse.
