Chapter 7
Drago POV
The moment the horn sounded, I was already moving. I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t question it. Attack. The word echoed through the bond, sharp and urgent. By the time I reached the border, the scent hit me first. Rogues. Five… maybe more. But something felt off.
Too controlled. Too… intentional. “Form the line!” I ordered, my voice cutting through the chaos as warriors rushed in behind me.
They moved well, fast, disciplined. Just the way I trained them.
A rogue lunged. I met him head-on, slamming into him with enough force to send him crashing into the dirt. He scrambled back, not even trying to finish the fight. That’s when I knew. This wasn’t a real attack. “Don’t chase them!” I barked as a few younger warriors started forward. “They’re testing us.”The word spread quickly, tension replacing adrenaline. Testing. My eyes scanned the tree line. Whoever sent them… was watching. I could feel it. And I wanted them to know one thing, We were not weak.
Levonna POV
I felt it before I heard it. The bond snapped tight with urgency, fear brushing against my chest, but not mine. His. Drago was already in motion. “Stay inside, Your Majesty…” one of the guards started.
“No,” I cut in sharply. If this was an attack, I needed to see it for myself. By the time I reached the outer grounds, the fight was already ending. Too quickly. Too clean. Rogues were retreating, retreating, not fighting to the death like they usually did. That wasn’t normal. My eyes narrowed. “This wasn’t random,” I said, stepping beside Drago. “I know,” he replied, his voice low. I wrapped my arms around myself, a chill running down my spine. If someone was testing us… Then they were planning something worse. And the thought of who might be behind it made my stomach turn. Later That Night…The forest was too quiet. That was the first sign. The second? No birds. No wind. Nothing.
He was already awake when it started. A distant growl. Then another. Then Too many. My eyes snapped open as the bond surged again, stronger this time. Not five. Not controlled. This was different. “Get up,” I growled, already shifting as I rushed out of the den. The air reeked of rogues. Dozens. No.. More. The first explosion of movement hit the western border. Then the south.
Then the east. “They’re hitting all sides!” a warrior shouted through the mind link. Coordinated. That same controlled precision.. but now paired with overwhelming numbers. This wasn’t a test anymore.
This was war.
Levonna heard nothing. Screams. That’s what woke her up.
Not the bond. Not the growling, Screams. I ran outside, my heart slamming against my chest as flames lit the edge of the territory.
Fire. They brought fire. Panic spread faster than the attack itself, dragons rushing, shifting, trying to protect, trying to fight. “Get the pups and elders to the inner grounds!” I ordered, grabbing the nearest guard. “Now!” My hands trembled, but my voice didn’t.
I wouldn’t let it. Not when they needed strength. But deep down…
I knew. This wasn’t random. This was planned. Built off what they learned earlier. They adapted. That realization hit hard as I tore through another rogue. They avoided direct clashes with the strongest warriors. They targeted weak points. Separated groups.
Drove chaos into structure. This wasn’t rogue behavior. This was strategy. Someone was leading them.
“Find the alpha!” I roared.
Because there was no way this many rogues were moving like this without one. Then I felt it. A presence. Watching. Again. My head snapped toward the tree line, but there was nothing there. Just darkness. But I knew. Whoever started this… Was still out there.
Final Beat Far beyond the burning edges of the territory… I watched. This wasn’t like the first time. No hesitation. No weakness.
They were strong. Stronger than expected. But now I knew their limits. Their patterns. Their response time under pressure. A slow smile spread across my face. “Now that…” I murmured to myself,
“…was a real test.” And next time? There wouldn’t be a retreat.
Smoke burned my lungs. The fire was spreading faster than we could contain it, flames licking through the trees, turning the night into a living nightmare. Wolves rushed past me, some carrying pups, others dragging the injured.
“Move! Stay together!” I shouted, forcing control into my voice.
I couldn’t let them see fear. Not now. Not ever. A guard stumbled toward me, blood running down his arm. “Your Majesty, the western line is collapsing—” A scream cut him off. Too close. My head snapped toward the sound. That’s when I saw them. Not scattering. Not wild. Focused. Moving straight toward Me. My stomach dropped. “Get back!” one of my guards growled, stepping in front of me. Too late. They were already here. The first rogue lunged.
My guard intercepted him mid-air, both of them crashing hard into the ground. Another came from the side, too fast, and I barely managed to step back as claws sliced through the air where I had been standing. They weren’t fighting like before. They weren’t aiming for chaos. They were aiming for me.
Drago POV
Something was wrong. I felt it before I saw it. The bond.. It twisted. Sharp. Violent. Fear. Not mine. Hers. My head snapped up, chest tightening. Where are you? I pushed through the bond, already running. No response. Just that same feeling. Danger. I shifted.
The world snapped into sharper focus as my dragon took over, instincts surging forward. I ducked under another attack, spinning and snapping my jaws around a rogue’s shoulder, throwing him off me. But there were too many. One…Two….Five. They circled me, cutting off every escape. This wasn't a coincidence. This was planned. “You want me?” I growled, my dragon pacing beneath my skin. “Then come and get me.” One charged. Then another. Pain exploded along my side as claws tore into me. I stumbled but didn’t fall, forcing myself back up, refusing to show weakness. I wouldn’t give them that. Not when I knew, This wasn’t just about killing me.
This was about sending a message. I broke through the tree line just in time to see it. Her. Surrounded. Rage didn’t build.
It detonated. A deafening roar tore from my chest as I launched forward, slamming into the nearest rogue and ripping him away from her. “No one touches her!” I thundered. The ground seemed to shake with it. I moved like something feral, something unstoppable, tearing through them one by one, not giving them a chance to recover, to regroup, to breathe. They had made a mistake. A fatal one.
Levonna pov
He came like a storm. Relentless. Furious. Terrifying. Relief hit me so hard it almost brought me to my knees, but I didn’t fall. I stayed standing, even as blood dripped from my side. We fought back-to-back. Like we always did. Like we always would. But even as the rogues started to fall back… I felt it. That same presence.
Watching. Waiting. Satisfied.
She survived. Barely. But that wasn’t the point. I didn’t need her dead. Not yet. Seeing her bleed… Seeing him lose control… That was enough, for now. Because fear? Fear lingers. Fear weakens.
And next time… She wouldn’t have him there to save her.
