putting together baby items 2

chapter 2 Drago POV We left the doctors and headed home so I could see that everything was here. The help mindlinked me while we were at the doctors; they told me everything had arrived and that they had taken it up to the nursery. I didn’t want them to put it all together. That was my job. I asked them to move most of our clothes and the things we might need to the bedroom close to my office. That was the doctor’s orders. Once the link was shut off, I was grateful to have help back at the castle. Everyone was excited about the baby coming, so they were eager to assist. What should have been a ten-minute walk ended up taking almost thirty. Levonna refused to let me carry her, and while it would have been faster, I respected her choice. Next time, I’d just use the car. When we finally made it home, I showed her the new room we’d be staying in until the baby was born. “The room is nice, Drago. There's no need to fuss over me, okay? I’m going to rest for a bit,” she said. I didn't leave her side for a few minutes. I made sure her feet were propped up on a pillow and then covered her with a blanket. “Get some sleep, baby. I have some stuff to do, and I’ll come check on you in a few minutes.” She didn’t know the baby things had arrived, I wanted to surprise her by putting everything together before she woke up. I was thirty minutes into assembling the crib when I felt her mind link me. ‘Did you read the directions? The help told me the baby stuff was here. How’s it going so far?’,I laughed as I walked to her room. She was sitting up, smiling, when I entered.,I couldn’t help the grin spreading across my face when I saw her sitting up, all cozy and smiling, like nothing in the world could bother her. “Yeah, I’m reading them… kind of,” I admitted, holding up a set of instructions that looked more like ancient hieroglyphics than something meant to help assemble a crib..She laughed softly, that little sound that made my chest tighten in the best way. “Kind of?” she teased, and I knew she was picturing me fumbling with tiny screws and boards like some big oaf. Truth be told, I probably was. “Don’t look so smug,” I said, striding over and kneeling beside her. I brushed a strand of hair from her face, careful not to disturb the pillow supporting her. “You know, I’m doing this for you… and the baby. Someone’s got to keep our little one’s first bedroom safe and perfect.” Her eyes softened at that, and she reached out, running her fingers over my hand. “I appreciate it, Drago. I just… I just want you to focus on taking care of yourself too.” I chuckled, shaking my head. “Oh, come on. If I can wrestle a dragon-sized crib into shape, I can handle a few tiny instructions. But I might need you to supervise. You know, make sure I don’t turn this into some abstract art project.” She laughed again, leaning back against the pillows, but I caught that sparkle in her eyes, the one that said she already trusted me to handle it, no matter how chaotic I got. And for a moment, just looking at her there, I felt this surge of pride and protectiveness. “Alright,” I said, standing up, “I’ll finish this before you even blink. And when it’s done, you’re going to see your baby’s room, and I promise… it’ll be perfect.” Even as I returned to the half-assembled crib, I kept glancing back at her, smiling at the way she looked so peaceful. I was ready for this, ready to do whatever it took. And if fumbling with a few screws was part of that… well, I’d take it.
