the truth 67

Chapter 67 Ruby POV I stared down at the torn page in my hands, the one my son had been searching for. He could never know. The words written there… the truth about his father… it would destroy everything. Yes, other alphas had betrayed him. Yes, he had gotten himself killed, chasing something he was never meant to have. But that wasn’t the worst of it. There were truths buried deeper, truths my son could never uncover. And I would make sure of it. I exhaled slowly, forcing my shaking hands to steady. In my grip was a needle filled with Dragon Root, strong enough to knock him out for days. I had mixed it carefully with another extract, something far more dangerous… something that would erase his memory. He wouldn’t remember any of this. He wouldn’t remember what he found. He wouldn’t remember what he was becoming. And if I had to rewrite the story myself… then so be it. My gaze dropped to the page one last time before I flicked the lighter open. The flame danced, reflecting in my eyes as I brought it closer. “This ends now,” I whispered. The fire consumed the page quickly, curling the edges until nothing remained but ash. He could never find out. Two hours passed in suffocating silence before the trees outside began to sway violently. He was back.My heart pounded as I moved behind the door, gripping the needle tighter. I still couldn’t believe how early he could shift… how powerful he already was. The door creaked open. “Mom?” his voice called out. “Are you home? There are some questions I need to ask you… and you better not lie to me. I deserve to know about my father.” Now. Before he could turn, I lunged forward and drove the needle into his neck. He reacted instantly. His fist slammed into my shoulder, pain exploding through me as he staggered back, ripping the needle free. “But…" Why, Mom?” His voice cracked, confusion and betrayal flooding his eyes. “Why would you do this to me?” Then his body gave out. He hit the floor. For a moment, I just stood there, staring at him… my son… unconscious at my feet. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, though I wasn’t sure if I meant it. I knelt down, lifting him into my arms, and froze. “What did you do to him?” I turned sharply. Amber. Of all the times for her to come here… it had to be now. My grip on my son tightened as I met her wide, terrified eyes. This was dangerous. Too dangerous. “He can never know what his father has done,” I said coldly. “If you want the truth, ask your parents. They’ll tell you.” Her lip trembled, but she didn’t move. “For my son,” I continued, my voice dropping into something darker, “this truth would destroy him.” I shifted slightly enough for her to see the needle still in my hand. “Leave,” I warned. “Or I’ll do the same to you.” Her eyes widened further, fear finally winning over whatever courage brought her here. She nodded quickly before turning and running into the woods. Good. I didn’t want to hurt her. But I would have. Looking back down at my son, I let out a slow breath. I didn’t want to do this… I didn’t want to lock him away like this… …but I had no choice. Carrying him to his room, I laid him gently on the bed. For a moment, I brushed his hair back from his face, my chest tightening. “I’m protecting you,” I murmured. “Even if you hate me for it one day.” I turned away before I could hesitate. The needle was still in my hand. I filled it again, watching the liquid swirl inside. This dose would go further, deeper. It would erase everything. It would force his dragon back into sleep… bury his power… "Bury the truth. When he woke up, he wouldn’t remember shifting. He wouldn’t remember the page. He wouldn’t remember any of this. Only what I chose for him. “It’s better this way,” I said quietly, convincing myself more than anything. “It’s the only way.” Because when the time came…" When I finally got my revenge… It was going to be sweet. The Truth About His Father Revealed.. The truth wasn’t heroic. It wasn’t misunderstood.. It was ugly. Court’s father hadn’t died chasing something noble… he had been consumed by obsession. Levonna. He wanted her, not as an ally, not as a queen to stand beside but as something to possess. Something to take. And when she chose the king instead of him… something inside him broke. What started as desire turned into obsession. What became obsession twisted into hatred. He began to believe the throne should have been his. That Levonna should have been his. And the only thing standing in his way… Was the king.,So he made his move. Not in honor. Not in challenge. But in betrayal. He went after the king in secret, attempting to kill him and take the crown for himself, planning to claim Levonna once the throne was his. But he failed. And that failure cost him everything. His life. His name. His legacy.,The truth was buried… rewritten… softened into something less monstrous.,Because how do you tell a child…,That his father wasn’t a hero? That he was a traitor to the crown….,a threat to the kingdom…a man who would have forced a queen to be his?
