Chapter 80
Amber POV
The battlefield no longer felt like a battlefield. It felt like noise.
Chaos. Distance. Like I was standing at the center of something far too big for a single body to contain. Fire cracked in the distance.
Steel clashed. People screamed my name, but it sounded far away.
Because something inside me had finally stopped asking permission. Fenrya rose. Not like a voice anymore.
Not like a presence. But like a truth being uncovered.
It’s time, she whispered.
My breath shook. “What happens if I say yes?”
A pause. Then.. “You stop being separate.” My heart slammed.
“I’m still me,” I whispered.
A soft, almost sad feeling brushed through me. “You always were.”
The ground beneath my feet trembled. And then, it began.
My body arched slightly as energy exploded outward.
White light, blinding, ancient, erupted from my skin. I gasped.
“Amber!” Ripley’s voice cut through the chaos.
I turned, he was running toward me. Straight through the battlefield. Straight through danger.
“Ripley…stop!” I shouted.
But he didn’t listen. Of course he didn’t. A rogue lunged at him from the side. I reacted without thinking.
“MOVE.”
The word hit like a shockwave. The rogue was slammed away instantly. But Ripley didn’t slow.
“Amber, come back to me!” he yelled.
Something in my chest cracked at that.
“I can’t!” I screamed back.
And that was the truth. The light inside me surged higher.
My vision split. For a moment, I saw through Fenrya’s eyes.
Ancient forests. Dead kingdoms. Bloodlines kneeling.
Power without limit. I staggered.
“No…no, I don’t want this,” I whispered.
“”Then don’t fight it,”” she said.
And then, she didn’t merge into me. She pulled me into her.
Pain. Not physical. Existential. Like every boundary of “me” shattered at once. My scream echoed across the field.
Light exploded outward in a violent pulse that flattened the ground in every direction. Warriors were thrown back. Even allies.
Even enemies. Everything stopped.
Ripley POV
“AMBER!”
I felt it before I saw it. The pressure. The shift in reality itself.
Then the light hit. It threw me backward hard enough to break my breath. I hit the ground, rolled, and forced myself up. and froze.
She was in the center of it all. But she wasn’t just Amber anymore.
She wasn’t even fully human-shaped.
A towering silhouette of white light and shifting energy stood where she had been, wings of pure force stretching behind her like a living storm. The ground beneath her cracked in a perfect circle.
The sky above her darkened. My chest tightened.
“No…” I whispered. “Amber… come on…”
I ran again. Ignoring the screaming instincts in my head.
Ignoring the power pressing against my skin.
Ignoring the fact that every step closer felt like walking into a storm that could erase me.
“Ripley!” someone shouted behind me. “You’ll die!”
I didn’t care. Not if she was in there.
Amber POV
I couldn’t feel my hands anymore. Or my body. Or the battlefield.
Everything was energy. Everything was awareness. And Fenrya
She was everywhere.
“This is what you are, " she said.
“I don’t want to lose myself,” I whispered.
“You won’t.”
A pause. Then softer. “You will expand.”
Through the chaos, I felt something else. Ripley. He was coming closer.
“No,” I gasped internally. “He’ll get killed—”
“Or he will reach you,” Fenrya said calmly.
“I won’t let him die!”
“Then stop him.”
My eyes snapped open. The light around me pulsed violently.
“Ripley…STOP!” I screamed.
The air in front of him shattered as a force barrier slammed down.
He hit it hard. Bounced back.
“Amber!” he shouted, slamming his hands against the barrier. “Look at me!”
I couldn’t.,Because if I looked too long… I might not come back.
“I can’t control it!” I cried.
“Yes you can!” he yelled back. “You’re still you!”
That word hit me harder than anything.
“You’re still you.”
Fenrya went quiet. For the first time. And in that silence…
I felt something shift. Not domination. Not possession. Choice.
I lifted my hand slightly. The barrier wavered.
Ripley pushed forward again, bleeding now from the force of it.
“Don’t you dare leave me!” he shouted.
Something inside me snapped.
“I’m NOT LEAVING YOU!”
The energy around me surged again, but this time… I pulled it in.
Not away. Not outward. In. The light collapsed violently back into my body. My legs gave out instantly. I dropped to my knees.Silence fell like a stone. The battlefield was still. Smoke drifted. Cracked earth stretched for miles. And I.. I was just Amber again.
Barely breathing. Barely conscious. Ripley reached me in seconds.
He dropped to his knees in front of me, hands shaking as he cupped my face.
“Hey…” he whispered. “Hey, I’ve got you.”
My vision blurred. “I almost lost it,” I whispered.
“No,” he said firmly, pulling me against him. “You came back.”
A shaky breath left me. “But I saw her,” I whispered. “Fully.”
Ripley tightened his grip.
“I don’t care what you are,” he said quietly. “I care that you’re here.”
My eyes closed against his chest. And for the first time since all of this began… I believed I might not lose myself after all.
