Chapter 50 Drago POV The moment the door shut behind him, the room fell into silence. Too quiet. For a second, I just sat there, staring at the door… my jaw tight, my fingers curled against the edge of my desk. Then my dragon snapped. ““Mine.”” A low, dangerous growl echoed through my mind, claws scraping, fury building fast. “She is not yours,” I muttered under my breath, pushing back from the desk as I stood. “She is our daughter.” That didn’t calm him. If anything, it made him worse. “”He knows. He came here knowing. He looked at her”” “I know,” I snapped, running a hand through my hair as I started pacing the room. “I was there.” The urge to shift, to hunt, to end the problem before it ever began it clawed at my skin. But I couldn’t. Because deep down… I knew the truth. The bond doesn’t lie. No matter how much I hated it, I stopped pacing, bracing my hands against the desk, head lowered as I forced myself to breathe. “He didn’t cross a line,” I said quietly, more to my dragon than anything. “He told us. He asked for nothing.” “”He exists.”” My jaw clenched. That alone felt like enough reason. But it wasn’t. And that’s what made this worse. I straightened slowly, exhaling through my nose as I forced my emotions back under control. Losing it wouldn’t help Amber. It wouldn’t protect her. Control would. Always control. Still… my eyes flicked toward the door again. “If he slips,” I muttered, voice low and dangerous, “if he so much as looks at her the wrong way…” My hands curled into fists. “He won’t live long enough to regret it.” A knock at the door broke through my thoughts. I turned sharply. “Enter.” The door opened, and Beta Randy stepped in, closing it behind him. “You wanted to see me?” he asked, eyes flicking over me carefully. He could feel it. Anyone could. The tension in the room hadn’t faded. “Yeah,” I said shortly, moving back behind my desk but not sitting. “Ripley’s gone.” Randy nodded. “Good meeting?” I let out a humorless huff. “Productive,” I said. “Complicated.” That got his attention. “What happened?” For a moment, I considered not saying anything. But Randy needed to know. “Ripley…” I paused, choosing my words carefully, though they still tasted like ash. “He’s Amber’s mate.” Silence. Then.. “You’re joking.” “I don’t joke about things like this.” Randy ran a hand over his face. “She’s a child.” “I’m aware,” I snapped. His expression darkened. “Does she know?” “No,” I said immediately. “And she won’t. Not until she’s older. I made him swear it.” “And he agreed?” Randy asked, surprised. I nodded once. “He did.” That seemed to ease him slightly. “Well… that’s something,” he muttered. I leaned back against the desk, arms crossing over my chest “He’s not weak,” I admitted. “Other alphas go to him for help. He didn’t ask for money, didn’t try to take advantage of anything. He came for advice.” Randy raised a brow. “You almost sound impressed.” “I am,” I said bluntly. “Doesn’t mean I like him.Not even a little.” Randy huffed a quiet laugh. “Of course not.” My gaze hardened. “I warned him,” I added. “He stays away from her. Completely. Until the time comes. If he doesn’t…” I didn’t need to finish that sentence. Randy nodded slowly. “Understood.” Silence settled between us for a moment before he spoke again. “What about Amber?” That… was the part I couldn’t control. My chest tightened slightly as I looked away.,“She’s still a child,” I said quieter this time. “Laughing, playing… she doesn’t need this. Not yet.” Not ever, if I had my way. But that wasn’t how fate worked. My dragon stirred again, restless. “”Protect.”” “I will,” I murmured under my breath. Randy didn’t question it. Because he already knew. No matter what that bond said, no one was touching my daughter.
