Chapter 41 My eyes slowly opened as the soft morning light peeked through my curtains. For a moment, I just laid there, staring at the ceiling. That dream… It felt so real. I sat up slowly, hugging my blanket as I looked around my room. Everything was the same, my dolls were where I left them, my stuffed animals were piled on the bed, and nothing looked out of place. But I didn’t feel the same. I lifted my hands, staring at them. Fire dragon… That’s what she said I was. I frowned a little. “Was that really a dream?” I whispered to myself. Inside my head, I felt a small movement. Nxy…? “Did you hear her too?” I asked quietly. There was a soft, warm feeling in my chest, like a gentle hum. “”Yes””… Nxy’s voice echoed softly in my mind. My eyes widened. “So… it wasn’t a dream?” “”No, she answered. That was the Moon Goddess.”” I pulled my blanket tighter around me. “She said people want to hurt me…” I whispered. Nxy growled softly, a low protective sound that made my chest feel warm instead of scared. “”We won’t let them.”” I nodded a little, even though I still felt confused. “She also said Alpha is my protector… not my mate,” I said, tilting my head. “What does that mean?” Nxy didn’t answer right away. “”It means he is yours to protect you… not to belong to you.”” I blinked. “I don’t understand…” “”You don’t have to right now, Nxy said gently. You are still little.”” I sighed, sliding out of bed. “Okay…” Walking over to my mirror, I looked at myself. I looked the same. Just… me. But now I know something I didn’t before. I was special. And that made my tummy feel funny. Just then, there was a knock on my door. “Amber, sweetheart? Are you awake?” my mom’s voice called softly. I turned toward the door. “I’m awake!” The door opened, and Mom walked in with a warm smile but when she looked at me, her expression changed just a little. Like she noticed something. “Good morning, baby,” she said, walking over. “Did you sleep well?” I hesitated. Should I tell her? The Moon Goddess didn’t say not to… But something in my chest told me to be careful. “It was okay,” I said instead. Mom tilted her head slightly, studying me. “Just okay?” I nodded. “I had a weird dream.” That part wasn’t a lie. Her eyes softened, and she sat beside me on the bed. “Do you want to tell me about it?” I looked down at my hands. I wanted to tell her everything. About the playroom… the lady… the fire… the warning… But Nxy stirred again. “”Be careful, she whispered.”” I swallowed. “There was a pretty lady,” I said slowly. “She had white hair and blue eyes.” Mom stiffened beside me. Just a little, but I felt it. “And?” she asked gently. “She told me… I was special,” I said, glancing up at her. Mom smiled softly, brushing my hair back. “You are special, Amber. You always have been.” I smiled a little, but inside… I knew this was different. This wasn’t just Mom saying it. This was something bigger. Something important. And for the first time ever… I felt like my life was about to change. Mommy helped me get dressed, brushing my hair gently before tying it back. I held her hand as we walked downstairs, the smell of warm bread and sweet berries filling the air. “Good morning,” Mommy said with a soft smile as she set me in my chair. I kicked my feet a little, excited. “Are we going now?” She laughed lightly. “First we eat, little one.” I tried to be patient, but I ate faster than usual, barely able to sit still. The marketplace was my favorite place, so many colors, so many people, and sometimes even little dragon pups running around. As soon as I finished, I slid off my chair. “I’m ready!” Mommy shook her head, amused. “Alright, alright. Let’s go.” She grabbed a basket, and together we stepped outside. The morning air was cool, and the sun was just beginning to warm everything. I squeezed her hand as we walked down the path, my eyes already searching ahead. The closer we got, the louder it became, voices calling out, laughter, the clinking of coins, and the rustle of stalls being set up. My heart raced. “Mommy, can we see the animals first?” I asked, bouncing a little. “We’ll see everything,” she said. “Just stay close to me.” But as we entered the marketplace, my eyes widened. There was so much to see… and somehow, I felt like something important was going to happen today.
