Chapter 43
Drago POV
The second Levonna’s voice hit my mind, I moved. There’s a child near Amber. I don’t know him. That was all I needed. I didn’t walk.
I didn’t hesitate. I stormed through the marketplace, my eyes scanning the crowd until I felt it, a surge of energy. Strong. Unfamiliar. Too close to my daughter. And then I saw them. Amber.
And a boy. Holding hands. My vision darkened instantly. No. I was in front of them in seconds.
“Let go of her.” My voice came out low. Dangerous.
Amber flinched slightly, looking up at me with wide eyes. “Daddy…”
The boy didn’t move. That alone set something off inside me.
“I said,” I growled, stepping closer, power rolling off me in waves, “let go of my daughter.”
Everything happened so fast. One second, I was standing with Court… The next,“Let go of her.” I looked up. Daddy. He looked… scary." It's not like normal. His eyes were darker, and I could feel his anger. “Daddy..” I started, but Court’s hand tightened around mine just a little. Not in a bad way. Like he didn’t want to let go.
“I’m not hurting her,” Court said. My eyes widened. He sounded… scary.
Levonna
Oh no. This was going exactly where I didn’t want it to. Drago was already at the edge, and that boy…,He wasn’t backing down.
That wasn’t normal. No child stands their ground against an Alpha like that. Unless, my eyes narrowed slightly. Unless there was something more to him.
“Drago,” I warned gently as I stepped beside him, placing a hand lightly on his arm. “You’re scaring her.”
But I didn’t take my eyes off the boy. Because I felt it now.
That energy. It wasn’t just reacting… It was matching Amber’s.
Ruby POV
Damn it. That Alpha moved faster than I expected. Drago.
Of course it would be him. I watched carefully from the crowd, my jaw tightening slightly. This wasn’t part of the plan. Not yet.
But I couldn’t let this fall apart. Not now. I moved quickly, slipping through the crowd, my posture shifting, calm, controlled, harmless.
By the time I reached them, I had already put on the perfect act.
“Court!”
My voice came out sharp but laced with concern. All eyes turned to me. I rushed forward, placing a hand on Court’s shoulder and gently pulling him back.,“I’m so sorry,” I said quickly, looking between Drago and Levonna. “He wandered off. I’ve been looking everywhere for him.”,Court looked up at me. For a split second…
Something passed between us.,Understanding. Good boy.
“I just wanted to make a friend,” he said quietly.
I softened my expression instantly, kneeling beside him.
“I know, sweetheart. But you can’t just walk up to strangers like that.”
Then I looked up at them again, offering an apologetic smile, “I truly apologize if he caused any trouble.”
Drago POV
I didn’t like this. Not one bit. The moment that woman stepped in, something in my gut twisted. She seemed normal. Sounded normal. But my instincts were screaming. Danger. My eyes flicked from her… to the boy… then to Amber. Amber looked confused. But not scared. That bothered me even more. I crouched slightly, pulling Amber gently to my side. “You don’t talk to strangers,” I said firmly, my voice softer now but still serious.
“I’m sorry…” she whispered. But her eyes drifted back to the boy.
And I saw it. That pull. Something was there. Something I didn’t understand yet.
Court was being pulled away. My chest felt weird. Like something was stretching… Like I didn’t want him to go.
“Wait…” I said softly. Everyone paused. I looked at him. “Will I see you again?” I asked.
Court smiled. A small, sure smile.,“Yeah,” he said. “You will.”
Perfect. straightened, placing a gentle hand on Court’s shoulder.
“We should go,” I said calmly. But inside… I was smiling. This didn’t fail. It worked even better than I expected. They felt it. The connection. And now? Now, it would grow on its own. I glanced back one last time, meeting Amber’s eyes briefly. Soon, I thought. Then I turned and disappeared into the crowd with Court.
