Chapter 98
Fenrya POV
She did it. She actually did it.
I could still feel the aftermath of the battle rippling through us, through Amber. The energy was unstable, raw, like a storm that hadn’t decided if it was finished yet. But something wasn’t right.
“He’s still here,” I muttered, pacing within the space we all shared. “A part of him… she absorbed it.”
That didn’t sit well with me. Not at all. I turned to the others.
“Nyx, Summer, hear me out. If we combine our power, we can get rid of him completely.”
Summer hesitated, her voice softer, uncertain.
“Isn’t that dangerous? Wouldn’t it hurt Amber?”
That was the problem. That was always the problem.
I exhaled slowly, forcing myself to think instead of react.
“Yeah… that’s the last thing we want. She’s already drained from that fight.”
Nyx stepped forward, her presence calm but firm.
“Wait. You said part of him is inside with us, right? Then we can do something. Summer, you control ice and fire. I can balance it. Fenrya… you can anchor it.”
I stilled. She wasn’t wrong.
Nyx continued, “But we don’t do anything without telling Amber. All three of us. Together.”
A slow nod left me.“I have no problem with that,” I said. “Let’s do this.”
Amber POV
We were back in my room at the castle.
Everything felt… quieter now. Too quiet after everything that had happened.
Mom and Dad had just left, their worry still lingering in the air even after the door closed. But I wasn’t thinking about them.
I was thinking about him. Ripley.
I turned toward him, my body heavy with exhaustion but my mind wide awake. Something inside me had shifted. after the fight, after everything. I didn’t want to wait anymore.
Crossing the room, I grabbed his collar and pulled him toward me.
He stumbled slightly, catching himself, his eyes locking onto mine, wide, searching, like he already knew.
“Are you sure?” he asked quietly.
I didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”
More than anything, I needed him, his presence, his grounding, the way he made everything feel steady when I wasn’t.
I kissed him, pouring everything I couldn’t put into words into that moment, relief, fear, need, all of it. He responded instantly, his hands finding mine, then my waist, holding me like he wasn’t about to let go. We moved together, slower this time, not rushed, not desperate, just… real. The world outside faded.
The battle. The darkness. Even the piece of him still inside me.
For a moment, none of it mattered. Wrapped in his arms, I finally let myself breathe. for the first time since it all began… I didn’t feel alone.
Ripley pov
I stepped closer, my breath uneven as I took her in. The way she looked at me, like I was the only thing in her world, sent something fierce and protective through my chest. My hands hovered for a second, almost afraid that if I touched her, this moment might shatter.
“Say it again,” I murmured, my voice lower than I expected.
Her fingers curled into me, steady, certain.
“I need you, Ripley.”
That was it. The last thread of restraint snapped.
I pulled her closer, slower this time, giving her every chance to pull away, but she didn’t. She leaned into me instead, and that quiet choice meant more than anything. My forehead rested against hers for a brief moment, grounding myself, memorizing her.
“You have me,” I said softly. “Always.”
My hands finally moved, not rushed, not desperate just sure. I traced along her arms, her sides, learning her like she was something sacred. Every touch was deliberate, every moment stretched, because this wasn’t just about wanting, it was about her trusting me, choosing me.
I guided her gently onto the bed, never breaking eye contact, making sure she felt every ounce of what she meant to me. Not just desire… but something deeper, something that made my chest tighten in a way I didn’t have words for. I didn’t try to fight it.
