Chapter 38 Drago POV I had just stepped back into the hallway after leaving Amber’s room when I felt it. A shift. Not from outside. From her. My head snapped toward the door just as Levonna came up beside me. “You feel that?” she asked. I nodded once.,Without hesitation, I pushed the door open again. Inside Amber’s Room Amber was no longer playing. She was standing in the middle of the room, completely still. Alpha stood a few feet away, watching her carefully. “Amber?” Levonna said softly as we stepped inside. Amber slowly turned toward us. Her eyes… They weren’t scared. They were… aware. “Mommy…” she said quietly. I moved closer instantly. “What is it, princess?” She hesitated, looking between us. Then she said something that made my entire body go still. “There were bad people here.” Levonna and I exchanged a quick look. “How do you know that?” she asked gently. Amber frowned slightly, like she didn’t fully understand it herself. “I felt them,” she said. “Down there.” Alpha stepped forward then. “She stopped playing all of a sudden,” he explained. “She said something felt wrong.” My chest tightened. “She shouldn’t be able to sense that,” I muttered. Levonna crouched down in front of Amber, taking her small hands in hers. “What did it feel like, baby?” she asked softly. Amber thought for a moment. “Loud,” she said. “Not like talking… like inside my head.” That was enough to send a cold wave through me. Levonna felt it too, I could see it in her eyes. Her power. It’s growing. Faster than it should be.,Amber suddenly stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Levonna, holding onto her tightly. “I didn’t like it,” she whispered. Levonna pulled her close immediately. “You’re okay,” she murmured. “No one is going to hurt you.” I knelt down beside them, placing a hand gently on Amber’s back. “Those people are gone,” I told her firmly. “And they’re not coming near you again.” Amber nodded against her mother, but she didn’t let go. Not right away. I looked up at Levonna, my expression hardening slightly. This wasn’t normal. Not even for her. “She felt them,” I said quietly. Levonna nodded. “I know.”,There was a brief silence before she added, “This is just the beginning.” I exhaled slowly, my grip tightening slightly on Amber’s back. Then we needed to be ready. Because if she could already sense intentions… It wouldn’t be long before others realized just how powerful she truly was. And next time… They wouldn’t come asking. Amber had finally calmed down.,Levonna was still holding her, gently brushing her hair back while whispering softly to her. Alpha had returned to sitting beside her, staying close, watchful. But I couldn’t relax. Not after what just happened. Not after what she felt. A knock suddenly echoed against the door. Three firm, controlled knocks. Every muscle in my body tensed instantly. No one was supposed to come up here. My eyes snapped to the door, then to the guard outside through the small gap. “Who is it?” I called, my voice sharp. There was a brief pause before the guard answered. “Your Majesty… it’s Alpha Ripley. He's requesting to speak with you and the Queen.” Levonna and I exchanged a look. Ripley. Of all people… right now? Amber shifted slightly in Levonna’s arms, her small fingers tightening in her mother’s dress. “I don’t like it,” she whispered. That was all I needed to hear. My expression darkened immediately. “Send him away,” I said coldly. But before the guard could respond, Levonna spoke. “Wait.” I looked at her. She was already watching Amber, her expression thoughtful, calculating. “If she can sense intentions…” Levonna said quietly, “then this might tell us something.” I understood what she meant immediately. A test. A dangerous one… but useful. I exhaled slowly, then turned back toward the door. “Let him in,” I ordered. The door opened moments later. Ripley. stepped inside.,He looked young, but not weak. His posture was straight, his movements controlled, his eyes immediately scanning the room before landing on us. Then… Amber. I didn’t miss it. Not even for a second. His attention lingered just a little too long. My Dragon growled low in my chest. “”Watch him.”” “I apologize for coming unannounced,” Ripley said, bowing his head slightly. “But I felt it was necessary to speak with you both before I leave.” Leave. Good. “Make it quick,” I said, my tone unreadable. Ripley nodded, but his gaze flickered again, back to Amber. Levonna subtly shifted, angling her body just enough to shield her. Smart. “I wanted to make something clear,” Ripley continued. “I am not like the others.” I almost laughed. “They all think that,” I said flatly. Ripley didn’t react to that. Instead, he took a small step forward, but stopped when I straightened slightly. Good. He knows his place. “I have no intention of forcing an arrangement,” he said. “Not now. Not ever.”,Silence. Levonna’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Then why are you here?” she asked calmly. Ripley hesitated. Just for a second. Then, Amber whimpered softly. Every head turned to her. She was staring directly at him now, her small body tense. “No…” she said quietly, shaking her head. My heart dropped. Levonna pulled her closer instantly. “Amber, what is it?” Amber didn’t look away from Ripley “He’s… not bad,” she said slowly.,That made my brow furrow. But then, “He’s hiding it.” The room went completely still. Ripley froze. And that… told me everything.,My power surged instantly, filling the room like a crushing weight. “What,” I said slowly, dangerously, “are you hiding?” Ripley didn’t move. Didn’t speak. But I saw it. That flicker. That hesitation. That was all I needed. I stepped forward, placing myself fully between him and my family. “You have five seconds,” I warned, my voice dropping into something lethal, “before I decide you’re a threat.” Levonna stood as well now, her power rising to match mine. The room darkened with it. Rilley finally exhaled. “I didn’t come here to cause harm,” he said. “Then start talking,” Levonna snapped. His jaw tightened. Then he said the one thing I wasn’t expecting. “There are others coming.”, Silence. My stomach dropped slightly, but my expression didn’t change. “What others?” I demanded. Ripley's gaze flickered, this time not to Amber, but to the floor. “Not Alphas,” he said quietly. That was worse. A lot worse. Levonna’s grip tightened on Amber. “Then who?” she asked. Ripley looked back up. And for the first time since he walked in… He actually looked concerned. “The ones who know what she is.”
