Chapter 32
Little Alpha POV
I had heard that Amber was in danger, mommy wouldn't let me out of the house until daddy came home, what is wrong with my parents, I needed to protect Amber. When they came inside the house, I ran out, they were home now, both of them. I heard them calling me to come back.
‘Alpha, get your little butt back inside this house. It's late. You can see Amber tomorrow,’
but I wouldn't listen. I just needed to see her. I needed to see that she was okay. I got to the very big house that looked like it could reach the sky. I didn’t bother knocking. I did the best I could to push those big doors open. Once they were enough for me to get through, I slipped inside, but I was caught in strong arms. I was kicking and screaming. I thought it was one of the big bad guys that got into the house, but it wasn’t. It was just King Drago. When I calmed down, he put me on my feet, then kneeled down in front of me.
“Hey, little guy, listen. Amber is okay, I promise. She’s not in danger now, okay?”
I wanted to believe him, but what am I to do? I knew either my mommy or daddy would be here really soon, but all I wanted was to make sure she was okay. So I asked him,
‘Can I please just take a peek? I know she's sleeping, but I need to see her. I want to make reallyyyyyy sure that she is okay… that she is safe.’
He ruffled my hair and chuckled softly.‘Alright, come on, little guy. I’ll take you to her room, but you can’t wake her up, okay? She’s drained right now, so we need to let her sleep.’
I nodded. He picked me up in his arms and carried me to see her.
When we got to her room, he opened the door just enough so I could see her. She was fast asleep, holding her old teddy bear.
Good… she’s asleep… and unharmed. My chest didn’t hurt as much anymore. Everything felt… calmer.
“Thank you, Drago, for letting me see her.”
Right when I said that, Daddy came running up the steps to get me, picking me up in his arms.
‘Alpha, you can not just run out of the house this late at night! What were you thinking? You could have gotten hurt. Come on, let’s get home.’
I knew he was upset with me… but I just had to tell him why.
The trip home was fast. When he placed me on my feet, I told him,
‘Daddy, I’m sorry… I just wanted to make sure she’s okay. I didn’t wake her. Drago, let me take a peek. She was sound asleep with her teddy bear.’
He sighed as he sat down in his chair, rubbing his face for a moment before looking at me again..“I understand, buddy. I do. But you’re only five years old. When you get older, you can go out at night all you want, but when you’re this young, you never do that. It’s dangerous.”
I looked down at my feet, feeling a little bad… but also still worried.
‘But… what if she needed me?’
He went quiet for a second, then reached out and pulled me closer, sitting me on his lap.
“If Amber ever needs you,” he said softly, “we’ll go together. You won’t ever have to face anything like that alone. That’s my job… to protect you, just like you want to protect her.”
I leaned into him, holding onto his shirt. ‘I was really scared, daddy…’
“I know,” he whispered, gently rubbing my back. “That just means you care. And that’s a good thing… we just have to be smart about it, okay?”
I nodded against him, my eyes getting heavy now that I knew she was safe. ‘Okay…’
“Good. Now let’s get you to bed, little warrior.”
Little Amber POV
Everything felt… quiet. Too quiet. I was warm, wrapped up in my blankets, holding my teddy bear close, but something felt different. Like a soft pull in my chest… like someone had been here. My eyes slowly opened, still heavy with sleep. The room was dark, only a little bit of moonlight coming through the window. Nxy stirred softly inside me. “...He came…”
I blinked, my fingers tightening around my teddy bear..‘Who…?’ I asked her, my voice small and sleepy.
“Alpha… he was here… just for a moment…”
I pushed myself up just a little, looking toward the door. It was closed now… but I felt it. I knew it. Alpha was here. He came to see me. A small smile formed on my face, even though I was still really tired. ‘He… made sure I was okay…’
Nxy hummed softly, almost like she was happy. “Yes… he was worried… just like you were…”
I looked down at my teddy bear, hugging it tighter. ‘I wanted to help mommy and daddy… the bad man… he was scary…’
Nxy let out a soft growl, but it wasn’t angry this time… just protective. “But you were brave… very brave… you protected them…”
My eyes started to close again, sleep pulling me back in. ‘Alpha would’ve helped too…’
“...Yes,” Nxy whispered gently. “And one day… you will both stand together…”
That made me feel warm inside. Not the kind of warm from blankets… but the kind that made everything feel safe. Like I wasn’t alone. Before I fell back asleep, I whispered really softly,
‘Thank you… Alpha…’
Far away, through the quiet of the night, that bond between us glowed just a little brighter… like it heard me. And then I drifted back into sleep, peaceful this time.
