Chapter 37
Drago POV
The moment the last Alpha stepped out of the throne room, the doors slammed shut behind them with a heavy echo. Silence filled the room. But it wasn’t calm. It was the kind of silence that comes after a storm, the kind that still hums with anger. My jaw was tight, my fists clenched at my sides as I stared at those closed doors. If they had pushed any further… if even one of them had taken another step toward disrespecting my daughter…I would have ended it right there. Slowly, I turned my head toward Levonna. She was still standing at the base of the throne, her posture straight, her power lingering in the air like heat after fire. She had handled that better than I could have. Because I wasn’t sure I would have stopped.
“They’ve lost their damn minds,” I growled, my voice low and dangerous. I ran a hand through my hair, pacing once before stopping again. “Arrangements? With a five-year-old?” My eyes darkened. “They’re lucky they walked out of here.”
My dragon was restless, furious.““Ours,”” he snarled in my head. They think they can claim what is ours.””
“I know,” I muttered under my breath.Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm down, just enough to think clearly.Amber.
My head snapped toward the stairs. Without another word, I moved quickly out of the throne room, taking the stairs two at a time. Guards immediately straightened as I approached the upper hall.
“She hasn’t left the room, Your Majesty,” one of them said quickly.
I gave a short nod. “No one went in?”
“No, sir. Just as ordered.”
Good. Reaching her door, I didn’t knock, I pushed it open and stepped inside. Amber was sitting on the floor, surrounded by her stuffed animals, with Alpha right beside her. The two of them were playing like nothing in the world existed beyond that room. Like there weren’t grown men downstairs trying to decide her future.
My chest tightened at the sight. She looked up the moment I walked in, her face lighting up instantly.
“Daddy!”
Just like that… everything in me softened. I crouched down as she ran over, catching her as she threw her small arms around my neck. I held her tightly, maybe a little longer than usual.
“You okay, princess?” I asked quietly.
She pulled back, nodding with a bright smile. “We’re playing! Alpha said I won ‘cause I’m faster!”
I glanced over at Alpha, who gave me a small grin. Of course she did. I let out a quiet breath, brushing some hair back from Amber’s face. She had no idea what was happening downstairs. No idea how many people were already trying to control her life. And she never would. Not if I had anything to say about it.
“You stay right here, okay?” I told her gently. “No leaving this room unless me or your mom comes with you.”
She nodded again without question. “Okay, Daddy!”
I stood up slowly, my eyes moving to Alpha. “Stay with her,” I said, my tone shifting slightly, more serious now. His expression changed instantly. “I will.”
I gave a firm nod. I trusted him. Looking back at Amber one more time, I allowed myself a small smile before stepping out of the room and closing the door behind me. TThe second it shut, my expression hardened again. Those Alphas weren’t done. I knew it.
And if they thought for even a second that I was going to let them circle my daughter like vultures… They were about to learn exactly why I was king.
Levonna POV
The doors had barely finished echoing shut before I felt it.
Drago. His anger… still burning, still barely contained. I turned slowly, watching as he stood there for a moment, his chest rising and falling, his fists clenched so tight I thought he might draw blood.
“They’ve lost their damn minds,” he growled.
I didn’t interrupt. I let him feel it.
“Arrangements?” he continued, pacing now. “With our daughter?” His voice dropped dangerously. “They’re lucky I didn’t kill them where they stood.”
I stepped down from the throne, my heels echoing softly as I approached him. “I know,” I said quietly.
He stopped pacing, turning to face me. His eyes softened just slightly when they met mine, but the anger was still there, just beneath the surface.
“They weren’t seeing her as a child,” I continued. “They were seeing power… control.” His jaw tightened again.,“I could feel it,” I added, my voice lowering. “Every single one of them.”
For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then he exhaled sharply and ran a hand through his hair.,“I’m going to check on her.”
I nodded. “Go. I’ll be there in a moment.”
As he left, I stayed behind for just a second longer, letting the silence settle. But something didn’t feel right. A strange pull… deep in my chest. Amber. Without another thought, I turned and followed him.
