Chapter 87
Ripley POV
Something was wrong. Not just a feeling, something real.
I stood at the edge of the training grounds, watching as warriors moved through drills, but my focus wasn’t on them. It was on everything else. The wind. The silence between movements.
The way the birds had stopped coming near the walls.
“Alpha?”I didn’t turn right away. My beta stepped beside me, his expression tight.
“Say it,” I muttered.
“Patrols reported movement near the western border,” he said. “Not organized… but not random either.”
My jaw tightened. Rogues. But not the usual kind.
“How many?” “Unknown. They don’t stay long enough to count.”
Testing us. I exhaled slowly, my eyes drifting toward the packhouse.
Toward her.
“Double the patrols,” I ordered. “No one moves alone. I want eyes on every entrance point, day and night.”
“Yes, Alpha.” He hesitated.
“What?” I asked.
“They’re not attacking,” he said. “Not really. It’s like… they want us to notice them.”
I gave a humorless chuckle. “They do.”
Confusion crossed his face. “They’re pulling us apart,” I continued. “Stretching us thin.”
“For what?”
My gaze darkened. “For her.”
Understanding hit him instantly. “luna Amber…”
I didn’t say anything, I didn’t need to. “Get everyone ready,” I said. “This isn’t random. This is planned.”
“And Luna Amber?” he asked carefully.
I clenched my fists slightly. “I won't let her out of my sight.”
Something was coming. And whatever it was… It wasn’t just after the kingdom. It was after my mate.
It started small. A scream in the distance, Then another.
By the time the alarms sounded, it was already too late. Rogues poured into the outer village like shadows breaking loose from the night. Fast. Violent. Unpredictable. They weren’t here to conquer.,They were here to destroy. Houses went up in flames.
Villagers ran in every direction, panic spreading faster than the fire.
“GET THEM OUT!” a guard shouted, grabbing a child and pushing them toward safety.
A rogue lunged, and was taken down instantly. But another took its place. Then another. They kept coming, not in formation. Not with strategy. Just chaos.
“Where are they coming from?!” someone yelled.
No one had an answer. At the edge of the village, a group of rogues stood still. Watching. Waiting. Like they were making sure the damage was done. Then, just as quickly as they came… They started to retreat. Slipping back into the forest. Gone. Leaving behind fire. Blood. And fear.
Amber POV
The moment it started, I felt it. I gasped, my hand flying to my chest as something twisted inside me. Sharp. Violent. Awake.
There it is, Fenrya whispered, her voice filled with dark satisfaction.
“No…” I staggered back slightly. “No, that’s not…”
“”Chaos, she breathed. Fear. Fire. Can you feel them?””
My heart started racing.,“I don’t want to feel that!”
“But you do.”!
Images flashed in my mind, Flames.!Screams. Running figures. It wasn’t my memory. It wasn’t my sight. But I was seeing it. Feeling it. Like I was there.
“Stop!” I shouted, grabbing my head.
Amber!”
Ripley rushed toward me, but I barely saw him. My vision blurred,
Then snapped into something else. Something darker. The world shifted. Every sound sharpened. Every movement slowed. Every heartbeat around me, Loud. Too loud.
“This is what you are,” Fenrya whispered. Stop fighting it.
“I’m not you!” I snapped. But my voice…Didn’t sound like mine.
Ripley froze. That’s when I realized, My eyes. They were glowing.
Bright. Unnatural. Wrong.
“Amber…” he said carefully.
I could hear it. The hesitation. The fear he was trying to hide. And it hurt. It hurt more than anything.
“I’m still here,” I whispered, my voice shaking.
“Barely,” Fenrya replied. Another wave hit me Stronger this time.
My body tensed. My fingers curled like I wanted to claws, something, anything. I could feel her pushing. Trying to take more.
Trying to break through.
“Ripley…” I choked out.
He moved instantly, grabbing my shoulders.
“Stay with me,” he said firmly. “Do you hear me? Stay with me.”
I focused on him. On his voice. On the way he looked at me—not like I was a threat… but like I was still me.
“I’m trying…” I whispered.
“You’re failing.”
My vision flickered, for a split second… Everything went black.
And in that darkness, I wasn’t alone. Something ancient stood there.
Watching me. Smiling. Then, I gasped, snapping back into my body.
Air rushed into my lungs like I’d been drowning. Ripley was still there.,Holding me.
“Amber,” he said, his voice tight. “Talk to me.”
Tears filled my eyes. “She’s getting stronger,” I whispered.
And this time..There was no denying it.,Outside the castle walls… The kingdom was already starting to burn. And inside me, So was she.
