Chapter 26 Amber POV I felt warm. Reallyyyyyy warm… like I was wrapped in something soft and safe. I didn’t want to open my eyes. Everything felt heavy, like I had been running for a really long time. But… I wasn’t running. I was playing. With Alpha. My eyes slowly blinked open, the morning light peeking through my curtains. My room looked the same… my toys, my stuffed animals, everything right where it should be. But something felt… different. I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes. And then it hit me. The blocks. Alpha. And then…Her. The big dragon. Pretty… shiny… strong. My heart started beating really fast. “I remember…” I whispered to myself. I looked down at my hands, turning them over like I was expecting something to be different. “I was her…” A small gasp left my tiny lips.,No… that wasn’t a dream. It couldn’t have been. It felt too real. I could still feel it, the power, the strength, the way my wings stretched out so wide. And the voice… “Don’t be scared…” I froze. “That was me…” I said softly, my voice shaking just a little. “I told Alpha not to be scared…” Before I could think anymore, I threw the covers off and climbed out of bed, my little feet padding quickly across the floor. “Mommy? Daddy?” I called out as I opened my door. I could smell breakfast. That made me pause for half a second… but only half. I hurried down the hallway and into the kitchen where Mommy and Daddy were. They both turned the moment they saw me. Mommy smiled first, but I saw it. the way her eyes searched my face. “Good morning, baby,” she said gently. Daddy didn’t say anything right away. He just watched me. I walked closer, holding onto my stuffed animal tighter. “I remember,” I said. Everything went quiet. Mommy’s smile faded just a little, and Daddy stood up slowly. “Remember what, sweetheart?” he asked carefully. I looked at him, then at Mommy. “When I was the dragon.” Mommy’s breath caught. Daddy didn’t move for a second. “I was big,” I continued, trying to explain. “And shiny… and Alpha was there. He wasn’t scared, but… I told him not to be.” I looked down again at my hands. “Was that really me?” There was a long pause. Then Mommy came over and knelt in front of me, just like she always did when something was really important. “Yes, baby,” she said softly. “That was you.” I blinked. “So… I can do it again?” Daddy stepped in quickly this time, kneeling beside her. “No, sweetheart,” he said gently but firmly. “Not right now.” I frowned a little. “Why?” Because it felt… nice. Strong. Like nothing could hurt me. Mommy placed her hands over mine. “Because, baby, not everyone would understand,” she explained. “And if the wrong people saw you… they might try to take you away from us.” My chest tightened. “Take me away?” I whispered. Daddy pulled me into his arms instantly. “No one is taking you from us,” he said, his voice low and protective. “We would never let that happen.” I hugged him tightly. “Then why can’t I do it?” He sighed softly, resting his chin on my head. “Because we have to keep you safe,” he said. “And sometimes… Being safe means waiting.” I didn’t like that answer. But… I understood a little. “Okay…” I said quietly. Mommy kissed my forehead. “Good girl.” I hesitated, then looked back up at them. “…My dragon talked to me.” That made both of them freeze. Daddy slowly pulled back, his eyes searching mine. “What did she say?” he asked. I thought about it. “She told me not to be scared,” I said. “And… she wasn’t scared either.”,A strange feeling filled my chest again. Warm.m Familiar.,Like she was still there… watching. Waiting.,“I think she’s still here,” I whispered. Mommy and Daddy shared a look. And I didn’t know why… But suddenly, I didn’t feel like just Amber anymore. Something inside me had changed. .Something big.
