Chapter 30
Drago POV
My heart stopped. To keep you… away. Amber. A deep, primal fear ripped through me, stronger than anything I had ever felt before.
“No…” I whispered, my voice turning deadly quiet. Then everything exploded. Power surged out of me in a violent wave, fire and force blasting in every direction. The ground shattered beneath my claws, trees snapping like twigs as the pressure pushed outward.
“I’m done playing,” I growled.
The chains shot up again, glowing darker than before, but this time, I didn’t wait. I moved first. With a deafening roar, I launched into the air, ignoring the pain in my leg as one chain tried to catch me again. It wrapped around for half a second, and I burned it off. My flames weren’t normal anymore. They roared hotter, brighter, infused with raw power as the chain disintegrated into nothing. Behind me, Alpha shouted through the mindlink.
“Drago, wait…!”
“I’m going back!” I snapped. “Protect the border, do not let them follow!”
“They planned this!” Beta added. “What if this is a trap to separate you from the kingdom..” “I don’t care!”
The words ripped out of me without hesitation. “My daughter comes first.”
For a split second, there was silence through the link. Then Randy's voice came back, firm and loyal.“We’ll hold them here. Go.”
I didn’t look back. I pushed higher into the sky, wings beating harder than ever before. The wind screamed past me as I forced more speed, more power, flying faster than I ever had. Faster. Faster.
FASTER. My dragon roared inside me. “”She is in danger.””
“I know!” I snarled. The bond between us pulsed suddenly,
Sharp. Wrong. Like something brushing against her. My chest tightened painfully.
“Amber…” I breathed.
Below me, the kingdom came into view, the castle rising in the distance. But something was off. Too quiet. No movement.
No guards at the gates. My eyes flared with fire.
“They’re already there.”
Rage flooded through me, hotter than anything before.
“They touched what’s mine…”
Flames burst from my wings as I dove downward, cutting through the sky like a falling star. The castle doors came into view, Open.
My heart slammed violently against my chest.
“LEVONNA!” I roared through the mindlink as I dropped toward the ground. No answer. Fear twisted into something darker. Deadlier.
I landed hard in front of the castle, the ground cracking beneath me as I shifted mid-stride, not even slowing down as I ran inside.
“AMBER!”
My voice echoed through the halls. Nothing. Too quiet. Too empty.
Every instinct I had screamed the same thing,
“”You’re too late.””
“No…” I growled, shaking my head as panic and fury collided inside me. “No, she’s here. She has to be here.” Then.. I felt it. A pulse.
Magic. Small… but powerful. Amber. My head snapped toward the direction of her room. And I ran.
Little Amber POV
Mommy gave me cookies and milk, and they were really, really good. I sat at the table swinging my feet, smiling. But then… Something felt funny. Not in my tummy. In the air. I looked around slowly, my smile fading.
“Mommy…?” I called softly.
She turned to me, her brows pulling together. “What is it, baby?”
I didn’t know how to say it. “It feels… weird.”
Before she could answer, the windows shook. A loud boom echoed through the castle, making me jump. My glass of milk tipped over, spilling across the table. Mommy was on her feet instantly, pulling me into her arms.
“It’s okay,” she said quickly, but I could hear it in her voice. It wasn’t okay. Another boom. Closer. The lights flickered. And then… I felt it.
Dark. Cold. Magic. My dragon stirred inside me, growling softly.
They found us. My little hands tightened in Mommy’s shirt.
“I don’t like it…” I whispered.
“I know, baby,” she said, holding me tighter. “Stay with me.”
The door to the kitchen burst open. Guards rushed in, breathless.
“Queen Levonna!! we’re under attack!”
Mommy didn’t hesitate. She picked me up and moved fast.
“Get the exits sealed. No one gets near this wing,” she ordered.
“Yes, my Queen!”
She carried me through the halls quickly, her heartbeat fast against my ear. “Mommy…” I said softly, “Is Daddy coming back?”
She didn’t answer right away. But she kissed my head.
“Yes, baby. He’s coming.”
We reached my room, and she set me down, kneeling in front of me.
“Listen to me,” she said, holding my face gently. “You stay here. Do not open the door for anyone but me or your father, understand?”
I nodded, even though I didn’t like it.
“I’m right outside,” she added. “I’m not leaving you.”
She stood and moved toward the door, But before she could open it, the entire room went dark. The windows shattered inward, glass flying everywhere. Mommy spun around, shielding me instantly.
A figure stepped out of the shadows forming in the room. Cloaked.
Still. Watching.,My dragon growled louder now.
“”That one… is bad.””
The figure tilted their head slightly.
“So this… is the child.”
Mommy stepped in front of me, her power rising fast.
“You will not take another step,” she said coldly.
The figure chuckled.,“I’m not here for you.”
Dark magic swirled in their hands. I felt it reaching for me. Something inside me… pushed back.
“No…” I whispered.
The air around me shimmered slightly. The figure paused
“Oh… interesting.”
