Chapter 31
Drago POV
The closer I got, the stronger I felt it. Amber’s magic. Clashing.
Fighting.
“Hold on,” I growled, sprinting down the hallway. “I’m coming, baby..”
A loud crash echoed ahead. Her room. Rage exploded inside me.
I didn’t slow down. I smashed through the door. Wood shattered around me as I stormed inside and froze for half a second. Levonna stood in front of Amber, power blazing around her. A cloaked figure stood across from them, dark magic curling through the air. And Amber, She was glowing. Soft. Bright. But strong. The figure turned slowly toward me.
“Ah…” they said. “Right on time.”
My eyes burned with fury. “You shouldn’t be here,” I said, my voice deadly calm.
The figure smiled beneath the hood. “I think you already know why I am.”
I stepped forward, placing myself fully between them and Amber.
“No,” I growled.
“I know why you’re about to die.” Fire ignited around me instantly.
The walls trembled from the force of it. Behind me, I could feel Amber, Small. Scared. But still fighting. That alone was enough.
“You came into my home,” I said, my voice dropping into something darker, more dangerous. “You threatened my family.” My claws flexed. Flames roared higher. “You don’t leave here alive.”
The figure’s magic flared in response. “Let’s test that.” And then, We moved at the same time.
Little Amber POV
I saw the mean man trying to hurt Daddy, and my tummy felt all twisty and scared. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like it at all. Nxy didn’t eithe. Shee was growling inside me, loud and angry.
“Amber, we need to do something. He’s going to hurt Daddy and Mommy… and take us.”
My hands felt all shaky. “Do you think… we should use what we can do?”
“Yes… now. They’ll find out what we can do sooner or later. Sooner is better. Put your hands out like you’re pushing something… that’s it. You’ll feel the heat… don’t stop.”
“I know… I know… just a seconddddd…”
I held my hands out just like Nxy said. At first, they felt warm… then hotter… then really, really hot, like I was holding the sun.And then…
BOOM! Fire came out of my hand.. My eyes got big, but I didn’t stop. I could feel it listening to me, like it was part of me. I pushed it forward, making sure it didn’t touch Daddy. It went around him like it knew he was mine to protect… and it hit the bad man. He started screaming. Loud. Too loud. It hurt my ears, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. Not until he was gone. Not until he couldn’t ever come back. The fire burned and burned… until there was nothing left. Then I pulled it back, like Nxy showed me. The big fire turned into a tiny flame in my hands… and then…poof, Gone. Everything got really quiet. Mommy and Daddy were just standing there, staring at me. Their mouths opened… then closed…Thenn they ran to me really fast and hugged me tight. I hugged them back, but my heart felt all wobbly.
“Mommy…" Daddy. " Please don’t be scared of me,” I said, my voice small. “I had to burn the bad man. He was gonna hurt you… and take me. I had to help… Please don’t be mad at me. Did I do something wrong?”
Daddy held me tighter, and Mommy kissed my hair.
“Honey, we’re not scared of you,” Mommy said softly. “And we’re not mad. We’re just… shocked. You controlled it… with your hands. How? When? How long have you been able to do that?”
I giggled a little because they kept asking so many questions.
“I had it when I was four,” I said. “I practiced when you and Daddy were asleep. I never burned anything, Mommy, I promise. But when I saw that bad man… I wanted to help. Nxy said we had to… so I did.”,I looked up at them, hoping, really hoping. “Please don’t be mad…”
Drago pov
How could I be mad at my own daughter? She saved us. Those words kept repeating in my mind as the weight of everything finally settled on my shoulders. Amber… my little girl… she had done what seasoned warriors couldn’t. She had ended him. Riven was dead. Dead. Gone. After everything he had done, after trying to kill my parents, after attempting to take over the kingdom, after years of fear and bloodshed, he was finally nothing more than a memory. No schemes, no shadows lurking behind corners… just gone. I mindlinked Beta, Randy, and the others immediately, my voice steady but laced with something I hadn’t felt in a long time, relief.
“Randy, Beta… Riven is finally dead. As in dead dead, nothing left of him. I’ll explain later. Did you get rid of the rest of them?”
For a moment, there was silence. Then it came. Roars. Not of fury.
Not of battle. But of pure, unrestrained joy.The sound echoed through the link, powerful and overwhelming. Warriors who had suffered, who had lost family and friends to that monster, were finally free of him. Riven had tortured people for generations… and now his reign was over. Or so we all believed before. We had seen him fall once before, watched him go over that cliff, his body smashing against the boulder below. We buried him. We mourned the end of the war. But he came back. Not this time.
This time, there was nothing left. Nobody to rise again. No magic to cling to. Just ash and silence. I stepped outside, the cool air hitting my face as I tried to steady myself. The sky above was filled with movement, dragons descending one after another. Dozens of warriors landed across the grounds, their massive forms shaking the earth before shifting back into their human forms. Victory. It should have felt complete. Randy and Beta arrived moments later. Joy didn’thesitatet. She ran straight into Randy’s arms, relief written all over her face as she clung to him. Nearby, Gamma closed the distance to Beta, wrapping him in a tight embrace. Reunions.
Relief. Hope. But even as I watched it all… something in my chest refused to settle. Because this wasn’t over. It couldn’t be. My gaze hardened as I scanned the horizon, my instincts refusing to quiet. Sedale. He was still out there. Somewhere in the shadows…waiting.
