“Oh, I’m so sorry. Are you the only one?” he asked. “Yes, I am. Everyone is gone, everyone else is dead…” she replied and started crying all over again.
Xavi held her hand and said, “It’d be fine. Don’t worry.” “No! It won’t be fine. I’m going to get executed tomorrow. I failed my entire pack. I am the heir.” She said, still sobbing. “So you’re royalty?” Xavi asked. “Yeah I am”. “I didn’t realize.” Xavi said, bowing a little to show some respect. “No, it’s fine. I’d be executed tomorrow after all, so there’s no need for this respect.” Lana said and smiled a bit. Xavi smiled back, but she didn’t see it because of the darkness. “By the way, how did you get here? Why were you thrown in here?” Lana asked. “I was found wandering in the lair, so they thought I was a young spy and so here I am.” he paused for a second before asking, “What’s your name?” “Oh… I’m Lana, a ten years old cub from Lunar dynasty.” She said and bowed. “And I’m Xavi, a 16 years old wolf from an extinct pack. I’d like to not mention which pack, thanks.” He said and bowed also. “Now, that’s formal introduction.” He said and chuckled. Lana smiled a bit. She was glad someone was here with her at this time. “You’ve wolfed out already, huh?” Lana asked rhetorically. “Yeah, I can see you so clearly. I have night vision. That’s why I was able to trace you to this place after hearing your cries at the other side where I laid in this dungeon.” Xavi replied, smiling at her. Lana only mouthed an ‘Oh’.
Her stomach grumbled. She hadn’t eaten and was so hungry. Xavi heard it and chuckled, but she didn’t find her hunger funny. She stood up, as if knowing how to move about in the darkness, and then asked, “Do you have any idea on how we could escape this prison?” Xavi stood up also and held her hand because he knew she couldn’t see in the darkness. He replied, “Nope. If I did I wouldn’t be here. I would have escaped.” “Oh yeah, that’s true…” she paused for a second and continued, “…so are you accepting the execution as your fate? Aren’t you going to do something? Don’t you want to live… if not for anything but for your nearly extinct pack?” Lana said and released her hand from his hold. “How are you sure we’re going to be executed? I mean, we’re just young wolves?! I don’t think they would. Let’s just get some sleep and wait till the morning to see what’s going to happen.” Lana nodded in agreement to what Xavi just said.
She sat down and tried to picture how the person standing here with her looked like. She imagined him seeing her staring at him while she couldn’t even picture how he looked like. “When am I going to wolf out…” she thought. Xavi sat beside her and whispered, “soon…” She was shocked! Can he hear my thoughts?! “Can you hear my thoughts?” she asked. “Yeah, I can when I want to. I was wondering why you were staring, so I just zoned into your mind. No wolf can do that, except hybrids. I’m half werewolf and half wizard. My father is an alpha werewolf and my mother was a witch. She’s dead, but I got some powers from her” he said.
“Oh! That’s amazing. I do not even know who my father is. All I know is my mother is the alpha female of the Lunar dynasty and I am the heir…” she sniffed as tears welled up in her eyes, “… now, overnight, they’re all gone. I’m the last one remaining and I’m sure they’d stop at nothing until I’m dead.” “I’m confident they wouldn’t get to you.” Xavi said. “Why do you say so?” Lana asked. “Before they get to you, you could get away.” Xavi responded and smirked. “Don’t get my hopes high, Xavi. I’ve already accepted my fate.” Lana said and sighed. “I’m not bluffing. I’d try to help you get away… I promise you, Lana.” He said and held her hand.
Lana got emotional and burst into tears, and Xavi only consoled her by patting her back fondly. “How would we get away? We have to do that really fast before they start executing their prisoners. Should we start leaving now?” Lana asked in between tears, sniffing silently. “We’d leave early tomorrow. Don’t worry I’d get everything in place and we’d escape unnoticed. I just need you to trust me and believe. I’d wake you early, so we need to sleep now. Okay?” Xavi said, giving Lana a reassuring smile. “Okay, thanks” Lana said and gave a dry smile.
She soon fell asleep in his arms and he too fell asleep with her wrapped in his arms.
