The day is now SATURDAY, her alarm clock awakes Jhayde as she prepares to head to her office to put everything in place for Tanya’s wedding tomorrow. She first stopped to make a call to check in with Shaun. The phone rings.
“Hey Shaun, how is my boy?”
“He is good, he is watching Super Monsters with Jay and they are eating cereal.”
“Cinni-Mini’s?
“Yup. He is really having fun. How are you holding up?”
“Well im cramming myself with work to not think about this custody battle with Jack.”
“Well that still isn’t going to make the problem go away, hon you have a strong case here and there is no way in hell you can lose so please stop worrying ok. We are all here to give you support in any way you need.”
“Thanks Shaun. Kiss that little monster for me. Im heading to the office now”
“Ok will do. As soon as I tear them away from the TV and into the bathtub. We are going to the park today.”
“Ok well have fun. I will try and stop by before I head to my rehearsal dinner.”
“Ok Jhayde see you later”
She hung up as she grabbed her things and headed out the door. She got in the office just as Adrian was making coffee for them.
“Well you’re here early; I guess that’s why you’re my assistant.”
“Yes that’s why you hired me cause Im the best!”
“They both laughed as they head into the office.
“Ok so we need to confirm with the Reverend about the rehearsal for tonight and also for tomorrow. The florist also, the band, the venue, contact the caterer and make sure they have the food order right, see how Chef Liam is progressing with the cake, head to the jewellers for the wedding bands. We have a hectic day ahead of us today so let’s stock up on that caffeine.”
Adrian poured a cup of coffee for him and Jhayde and then they both begin their calls. After a series of calls and what turned out to be hours of shouting they both paused to compile information.
“Well the Reverend is all set for tomorrow although was a charge confirmed with him?”
“Yes I told him $250 plus I would throw in an extra $100 for the rehearsal, what’s the issue?”
“Well he’s saying he needs more!”
“He’s getting way more than what we usually pay him for weddings. What does he mean he wants more?”
“He got another offer to do a wedding for $500!!”
“That is just $150 more than what we are paying him is he serious right now? Call him back now please it is too late for me to deal with Pastor and his bullshit! Like his damn house and car aren’t fancy enough!!”
“Hi Reverend Stephen, it’s Jhayde here. Are we all set for tonight and tomorrow?”
“Yes Jhayde as I told your assistant I’m being offered more than what you are offering for this wedding and I need to confirm with them so what do you say?”
“Pastor $400 is not far from $350 dollars its just $150 extra that is being offered to you!”
“My dear you are paying me $250 dollars that’s what the contract said?”
“Pastor I sent you a second contract stating that an extra $100 will be added to your fees and I have it signed right here in front of me?”
“I didn’t see that in my contract!”
“Well pastor I think you should re-read it and let me know what time I should pick you up later for the rehearsal dinner, because remember if you miss this, it will be a breach of contract and I’m really not in the mood for any court battles today!”
“Whoa Jhayde no need to go that far. I can’t ruin my reputation over a measly $150 dollars so I will be seeing you at 7 for the rehearsal at 8,”
“Thank you Pastor Stephen pleasure doing business with you. See you at 7”
She hung up and continues to write.
“Now that’s my badass boss!” whispered Adrian as he continues to write. Jhayde overheard and continues with a smile on her face.
“Now the florist will be at the venue by 8:30am so we need to get the Décor Company there by 9, so call Colour Scheme and have the come in at that time and reiterate the colour theme of mint green and peach. No mishaps, no issues I want tomorrow to be perfect for Tanya and David.”
“On it boss. I spoke with the owners of the venue. La Cher is set and ready to go.”
“Perfect at least one thing is going as planned and the band?”
“Timeshare’s lead singer has the flu so they are sourcing a back- up to replace her but they said they‘d be ready by tomorrow. If you want, we can go view their set at 6pm today when they rehearse for tomorrow.”
“Yes please I want no problems tomorrow whatsoever.”
“I called the caterer; he has started preparations for tomorrow should be ready and set up by 11 am.”
“Perfect, Chef Liam is all done with the cake. Just waiting on the cake topper that I will get from Tanya later. Need to call her about that.”
“Well I guess that’s everything then. The time really flies when you are having fun. It is now 4:00 so I guess we are finished here for today. I’m going to look for Chase and I’ll meet you here at 5:15 pm to go to the band rehearsal then get over to the dinner to get everything sorted.”
“Ok boss no problem see you in a few.”
Jhayde got her things together, headed for her car, and drove to Shaun’s house. As she exited the car, she heard a happy voice.
“Mommy!”
She turned around and saw Chase rushing towards her
“Hey Sweetie! How’s my Lil Dragon doing?”
“Im fine Mama. When can I come home?”
“Soon sweetie. I thought you were having fun with JayVaughn?!”
“I am but I miss you!”
“I miss you too pudding but as soon as I finish this wedding tomorrow. Ima come right here and fetch you. OK?!”
“Ok Mom.”
“That’s my brave boy.’
She gave him a hug and a kiss and they walked inside the house. Shaun was in the kitchen and JayVaughn was watching the TV as Chase joined him.
“I was beginning to think you guys weren’t gonna come in. My pots almost burned keeping an eye on you come on in. Dinner is almost ready.”
Jhayde went in, got herself settled and jumped into the kitchen to help Shaun.
“I got a rehearsal to get to by 5:15 for both band and wedding, Shaun I cannot thank you enough for keeping Chase for me while I get over this busy weekend.”
“It’s no problem Jhayde; you were there for me during my time of need and im just returning the favour. That’s what friends are for.’
They finished dinner and invited the kids into the dining hall to eat. They ate, chat and made jokes until it was time for Jhayde to go to her rehearsal.
“Hey Chase, mommy’s gotta go now to finish her work but as soon as im finished I will come back for you” She gave Chase a kiss and headed to her car.
She got into her car and drove to her office to meet Adrian. She picked him up and they headed to LA Cher to see what was the outcome is for the venue. When they arrived, the band was setting up for rehearsals and the venue was being set up for the wedding rehearsal. She walked around and did her assessment as she awaited David and Tanya’s arrival, tying up loose ends and fixing mishaps. She looked at the time and it was quarter to 8, saw guests arriving, and rushed to get the servers to start lining up.
She went outside to await David, Tanya, and the rest of the bridal party to start the wedding rehearsal before she brought them to the dinner. They arrived a little after eight, went straight to the chapel, and started the rehearsals with Reverend Stephen. The rehearsal went perfect and so did the dinner. Jhayde stood in the shadows and watched her work go off without a hitch. She turned to leave with a bright smile on her face proud of yet another great wedding.
