He could not help but to look over at the poor girl sitting on the hospital bed, looking lost and scared, like she had been the one to do something wrong. She was not. Kinley could not believe it, even though he had heard and seen it, he could not understand how a brother could be so harsh to a younger sister. He himself, would never treat his little sister in such a way. Yet, he also knew, that not every family was perfect and supportive, even his family had the down side to them.
Even so, he could not help feeling very protect of the girl, not because she was his, but because she was Nathanial’s, one of his best mates, and he would do anything to protect his friends mates, they were his non-blood family. Everyone who knew Kinley knew he was like this, like a brother to the girls his friends were mated with. They were special to him and his friends knew, there was nothing to worry about with him and them being alone together, as Kinley would never in his life try anything with a person mated.
“So, the burns were from you spilling hot gravy on your feet?” the Darkmoons pack doctor asked.
“Yes.” Penny said softly, weakly.
“Stop covering it up Penny.” Kinley said shocked, and annoyed. “This was his fault, not your own. You did NOTHING wrong.”
“But… dinner was late.” she debated.
“So what!” Kinley hissed. “I am sure that brother of yours knows how to cook himself food. Why do you have to do it and be punished for it.”
He had a reasonable question, but he was only met with silence. Kinley looked at Penny who was looking down at her lap, twisting her hands around and around. He glanced to the Doctor, and saw that he was looking nervous, looking anywhere but at Penny on the bed. It told him all he needed to know, that this clearly was not the first time something like this had happened and neither of them were going to answer him. He did not push it, not yet, Kinley knew he would find out soon enough.
Moving back, he went and sat on a chair in the room, just watching and waiting. He studied the doctor and Nathanial’s mate. She was silent, but she did glance up at the doctor and give him a look. It was one of thanks and he knew it was because the doctor did not tell him what she did not want him to know. Even so, Kinley could not help it, he would find out, after all, Nathanial would want to know and it was better for her to not keep it privet for too long, because Nathanial could likely blow up if he found out from others and not his own mate or his friends.
After the doctor cleaned Penny’s feet and put cream on them, he placed non stick dressing on the burns and then wrapped her feet up in bandages. It looked a little funny, but they all knew it was her best option. After handing her a whole new tube of cream and advising Penny to put it on every morning and night, giving her a bunch of fresh dressings and bandages to keep her wounds protected, he left the room, telling her to wait until the drip was finished. She did not want to wait, wanted to go back home, but she was given no choice, walking was to painful for her.
The room was in silence, Kinely just watching her, trying to figure the girl out. She did not complain, even when she showed she was not impressed by something. She did not blame anyone but herself, even when it was very clear she was not the one at fault. Kinley had heard what was said, and as more puzzle pieces were being put together, he was really ready to figure it all out.
As the room stayed silent, there was a soft knock on the door. Penny looked up, sniffing and then in a small trembling voice, told the person knocking to come in. As the door opened, Luna Jaimee slipped into the room, glancing around. She gave Kinley a respectful nod and then looked at the near frightened girl on the bed.
“Penny.” she said, softly, like a caring mother. “You have one week left of school and then you are finished. I think, it is time for a change.”
“A change?” Penny asked sounding scared.
“Yes. My dear little Penny.” Luna Jaimee said with a smile. “You are growing up, you have a mate who is very worried about you, you have his friends checking in on you. You do not belong here in Darkmoon full time. You are destined for something more, something grater, you are destined to be a park of the biggest and strongest pack, Redmoon.”
“But…. This is home.” Penny said in a whispered.
“And it always be home sweety. You will always be welcome back any time my dear girl, but after this week, it is time you ventured out and spent time with your mate.” Luna Jaimee stated. “I know since meeting him, you have wanted nothing more but to be with him, but you are holding back, closing yourself off. Now is the time to stop that.”
“But… how can I?” Penny asked, tears glistening in her eyes.
“As much as I want you to have a say in this, we have decided. My Alpha, my sister, myself and the Alpha and Luna of Redmoon.” Luna Jaimee said softly. “We all agree, it is for the best.”
“But what if…” Penny started to asked.
“Nobody else has a say in this.” Luna Jaimee stated firmly, cutting her off.
On the outside, Kinely kept a straight expression. Yet, inside he was happy, cheering, pleased to hear that they would be having Penny come to Redmoon. He did not like her brother, and even from the conversation he had just heard, he could pick up some hidden meanings. Penny wanted to leave but was worried people would stop her. He knew it, she was worried about Connor, and it was very clear he scared her, more then a big brother should.
Luna Jaimee stayed for a little longer, talking to both Penny and Kinley. They discussed her son and her niece, who were both children of Alpha Liam. Each Luna had a child and it seemed they all worked together to raise the children and do what was best for the pack. It was good they could have a relationship like that. After the talk about her family, Luna Jaimee asked Kinley about his family, if he had a mate and his plans. Kinley told them how he had a little sister that he loved, how his father was the pack Delta and how his mother was the best cook he knew. He was proud of her. Kinley did express his used to be a playboy which made Luna Jaimee giggle at him, but he explained he was not longer interested in messing around and wanted to simply wait for his mate.
They had some good conversations, Kinley learning more about Darkmoon and the Luna more about Redmoon, however, they both know they were not giving away pack secrets to each other. That would not be the right thing to do. While they were allies, things could always change. So it was more just a general chat about schooling, working and some laws.
At one point, Penny started to say a couple of things, more so when they were talking about the vampire Alexander and how he was planning a war. It was a bit of a heavy topic, but most packs knew of the threat either way and so it was common to discuss it when packs got together. Penny did pick up on how strange it was that Redmoon was being targeted, worried about the safety there. Kinley admitted yes they had a number of attacks, but other then the one when the vampire got through and was snooping around. He did not mention the fact they suspected it was Alexander testing their defences and looking for information about Adira. He did not feel like it was right for him to talk about it with other people.
After Luna Jaimee decided it was time to go, Kinley offered to stay, to keep watch. Penny was clearly confused by this, however Kinely smiled at her, passing the girl his phone and showing her he had made a call, connecting it to Nathanial. He cold see her surprise and the excitement and giving her a nod, he walked out of the room and closed the door, standing against it. He would make sure nobody went in and disturbed her, stopped her from talking to her mate.

The next week, on the Thursday end of November, Kinely, along with Sebastian, Maximus, Nathanial, Stacey and a number of their other friends and class mates officially graduated. The school had a graduation ceremony, congratulating all the students on their hard work over the years. They walked up the front, got a certificate and shook hands with the school principle. After the ceremony, there was a student graduates party, guarded of course in case there was any form of an attack.
It was a fun night and everyone got to relax, all of Redmoon and Halfmoon forgot their differences and enjoyed their night together. There was music to dance to, food to eat, a photobooth to mess around in and so much more. The teachers of the school were all there and it was odd, seeing how they were all so relaxed and not bothering to follow too many rules. They spoke with students, had laughs with students, it was a good sight to see.
Friday morning, clearly not hung over as it was an alcholo free event the night before, Kinley sat in the drivers seat of the large four wheel drive. In the passenger seat was Nathanial, feeling anxious and excited. In the back seat was Leonardo, playing on a switch and chatting away like he could multi task like it was a walk in the park. They were on their way to Darkmoon and Nathanial wanted to make sure he was there before Penny’s own graduation.
The trip was not too bad, comfortable. When they arrived at Darkmoon, some of the guards questioned them a few times why there were there, seemed not to like the idea that they were visiting again and it is Penny they were wanting. Kinley would have thought the Alpha would have informed the guards they were coming, but it seemed, even if he had, these guards were not being very easy to deal with.
When they finally moved on and made it to the Pack house, Alpha Liam was waiting and Luna Emalee was by his side, they both smiled and greeting the three boys warmly and then welcome them into the Pack house to the sitting room. An Omega came in shortly after and offered them refreshments and some finger food to nibble on. They had a short discussion about the plan, how there was three hours before school was finished for the day and then two hours before the graduation would take place. It gave them five hours to pack the car.
Jumping into the car with the boys, Alpha Liam directed them towards Penny’s house. When Kinley pulled up he saw Luna Jaimee and two male pack members coming out of the front door with a couple of boxes. Being sharped eyed, Kinley looked around as he got out of the car, noticing that Connor was not there. He was either on guard duty or kept away during this time. Though he thought it, he did not speak it. Kinley approached the Luna and smiled, greeting her like an old friend and she introduced the other two wolves, guards of the pack, these ones seemed more friendly.
Nathanial was keen to get things started, clearly want the time to go quickly so he could see his mate graduate and then they could leave, go back home, together. Kinley was happy for him and he could see that Luna Jaimee seemed very happy as well. What Kinley noticed though was that none of his group were asked to enter the house. Instead, one of the guards said that they had already grabbed all the boxes and it was not just a matter of stacking them into the car.
They worked like this as a team, until it was finished. What Kinley noticed and he was saw Nathanial did too, was the fact that Penny only had five boxes to put in the car and a small suitcase. Kinley would have expected more, for a teenage girl, but he decided not to question it. After all, Penny seemed like a simple girl and he had to think of that before jumping to conclusions.
With the car packs, the house locked up, everyone headed back to the pack house. They sat with Alpha Liam and his two Luna’s in the Alpha office, while Leonardo discussed some plans with them regarding suggestions that Alpha Gabriel had made. While they were at a distance apart from each other, it was clear a strong alliance was forming between the two packs and it was good, to support each other through the troubled times. Much so, because earlier in the week, Darkmoon had an attack from rouges. Two of their guards had died unfortunately and half the rouges retreated, escaping. It was worrying to say the least and that was why Alpha Gabriel sent some plans with Leonardo to discuss with Alpha Liam, to help them next time there is an attack.
When school end time hit, Nathanial was like an anxious child, his leg shaking as he sat in a chair listening to the discussions. It was clear he wanted to see Penny and soon. Luna Emalee went out of the office for about ten minutes and then came back in, Penny following behind. She took a glance around and when her eyes landed on her mate, Kinley could see the happiness behind the worried look. Penny always looked worried and Kinley hoped in time that look would fade and the happy one would shine.
Nathanial was already on his feet, like was before penny even came into the room. He did not hold back, he smiled and went straight to her, giving Penny a huge, telling her how much he missed her. Kinley caught a glimpse of Penny’s face before she vanished behind Nathanial’s body, she had bright red cheeks, but looked happy still. They spoke softly and then with a nod Penny left the office, Luna Jaimee going with her, explaining that she was going to help Penny ready. Luna Emalee was going to help her own daughter get ready. Like a guy, as guys were, Bodie did not want the help of either Luna’s or Alpha to help him get ready.
Within a couple of hours, they were not in the Alpha office any more, but sitting and watching the graduation ceremony that Blackmoon held. It was one pack, so the numbers were a lot smaller and unlike their own ceremony that went for an hour and a half, this one went for half an hour. Students got certificates for finishing school and there were some extra rewards. Penny got called up for most successful student and most hardworking school volunteer. Kinley thought that was pretty good and cheered her on.
Unlike their school, there was no after ceremony party. It sounded some of the students were going to catch up at one of their houses, but it became clear Penny was not interested. Nathanial did not mind and decided as she was done with the ceremony, they would go back to the pack house, have dinner and then head off, on the trip back home, to Penny’s new home. After the dinner, Penny went around and hugged all of the Alpha family a goodbye, trying to hold back tears of emotions. Nathanial was patient and waited for her, supported her, until she was ready.
They all got into the car together, Kinley driving again, Leonardo in the front passenger seat and Nathanial in the back this time, with Penny by his side. They headed on out, into the evening and made their way back towards their territory. Nathanial explained to Penny that she was welcome to stay in the pack house, they had a room ready for her when she arrived. She seemed grateful for that. Penny did ask though where Nathanial stayed. He explained to her that he lived with Maximus and his family, but in time, they could figure things out and find a place together. This made Penny blush yet again and Kinley smirked. He hoped one day, he could have a mate as innocent as her.
