He had promised her that he would not leave and that promise he kept. He explained to his father that he did not want to leave, he felt it was important for him to be there and his father did not argue the matter with him. Alpha Gabriel allowed him to remain at the hospital for as long as needed, while always bringing him paperwork and information, so he was still doing some Alpha work in some way. Others came to visit the Hospital, after Alpha Gabriel had informed those that it was important to, that Adira had moved, seemingly to respond to things. Sebastian still did not tell anyone about the bond, and his reasoning for staying there was to keep an eye on Adira now that they thought she was going to wake up soon.
The movement had been on Christmas eve, and January had already passed. Four weeks now since that first movement, but Adira still had not waken up and Sebastian had not left her room once. There was a privet bathroom and Doctor Shelt had bought in a sofa lounge for him, so he had somewhere to rest when needed, at least something more comfortable then the chairs he had been using. He had one rule though, with a guard situated outside, it was required for anyone who wanted to come in it to be checked with him first.
He had requested this for one simple reason, because he was trying his best to help Adira and in doing so, after researching a little, he felt that because of the bond, he being near her would help her with the healing. It was clear her body was recovering on it’s own, however, he hoped he could be helpful to her. He knew that his father, mother and Doctor Shelt was likely aware of his thoughts on this matter, as he had asked them about his thoughts on the bond and healing each other. They told him it was true, but mostly when two mates had fully bonded. Sebastian understood their meaning, but he had to have faith and hope and try it.
Presently, he was laying on the bed, next to Adira. The ventilator was steadily feeding her air, making her chest rise and fall evenly. He was reading some papers his father had left for him, and yet, he still made sure he kept something in contact with Adira. Most times, he would just hold her hand in his, but today, he had this feeling, like it was ok to try help further. It meant that, while he was leaning on the bed, he had re-positioned Adira, so that she was leaning against him. He knew he had to have moved her very carefully, not to cause any damage to her because of the tube down her throat and he always checked to make sure it was still helping her breath, keeping her body stright.
He did not know if she had been awake, if Adira would have allowed this to happen, but she was not, and that was because she was still recovering and this was the only way he could think about helping her. He had read and his parents confirmed, that skin on skin was better, however, that was the one thing he did not dare to do. Sebastian knew that would be taking things too far, taking advantage of the situation, and he did not want to be that type of person. So the best he could do, was lean her body against his chest, the hospital gown and his shirt the only thing between them at that moment. He had his arms around her, as he held the papers up, reading, and taking in her smell that surrounded him.
Before he could really do anything, there was a swift knock on the door, some heated words outside and before he could shift from the bed, the door came flying open and as he was looking up in confusion, he was seeing Maximus, Stacey and Kinley pushing their way into the room. Everyone was standing frozen though, as their eyes met and the guard who was meant to let Sebastian know of visitors before letting them in, was behind them looking angry and disappointed in himself. Sebastian could get angry, for him not doing the job, but he knew it was likely the other three had overruled him to come into the room before he got to warn Sebastian.
“What… what is this?” Kinley asked the shock passing now.
Sebastian knew he was caught out, knew there was no way any of the three would just let him explaining slide. There was no point hiding it either now, because it was obvious he was much closer to Adira then what a normal person would have gotten.
“Sebastian… what are you doing?” Stacey asked frowning, like he was doing something wrong.
He quickly put a finger to his lips, to tell them to be silent. He carefully put the papers down and as best he could, he slowly and carefully shifted Adira, moving her so she was now resting back on the mattress, her head still in an angle that would not affect the tube down her throat and he was able to get off the bed and face his friends, who were silent like he had asked, but watching him very closely, everything that he did.
“How long have you known Adira is your mate!” Maximus hissed in a low voice.
“Mate… what?” Kinley asked wide eyed.
“You cannot, for any reason, tell anyone!” Sebastian warned them, looking back to the bed she was resting on. “We do not know… if she is even aware.”
“We?” Stacey asked, clearly hurt she was not told this sooner but others would.
“Father, mother and myself… Doctor Shelt.” Sebastian listed “Not that we did not trust people… but it is safer as well this way. Less who known… less trouble.”
“What do you mean she may not be aware?” Kinley questioned settling down.
“Well… I have met her wolf… that is how I know she is my mate, we met, but then she ran away. I do not know why, but it is tricky, to know what she knows and not knows.” He said, but saw the other three were very confused. “I have been trying to look into things… it is possible that Lord Vincent put a magical block on Adira, so the mate bond would not be noticed. But it is likely not as effective when she is in wolf form, so when I met her wolf, I met my mate.”
“Did you know… the wolf was Adira… before… the party?” Kinley asked, his voice getting lower.
“No…” he said with a heavy sigh, looking back at the bed. “Not before… but I found out that night.”
He could not help but to feel sad, he was being as honest as he could with his friends. Now they had found out, there was no point in hiding anything from them. He knew he could trust them, but he would later make sure that they would not say anything about this.
“That is what you felt.” Maximus said, also looking to the bed with a heavy sigh. “The discomfort and the pain when we started looking for Julian… you felt the torture, you felt her pain. Maybe not as strongly as it would have been had your mate bond been accepted… but that was what it was.”
“Oh shit.” Kinley said wide eyes.
“So… that is why you are always here… it makes… sense.” Stacey said tears in her eyes. “Oh I hope everything will be ok and work out. She would be perfect… as our Luna.”
“Heck yeah!” Kinley said with a smile.
Sebastian was very pleased to hear those words and it made him very happy. To know that those close to him would support this, to support him and Adira. However, he did not feel it was needed to keep talking about this. In time, he would be able to sit down with them and others and explain it further, but right now, was not the time and place.
“What did you need me for?” he asked suddenly, looking at them. “It seemed you rushed in here like it was important.”
“We needed some help… but… maybe being here is more needed.” Maximus said thoughtfully.
“It is. We can deal with Nathanial ourselves.” Stacey said strongly.
“Nathanial?” Sebastian asked.
“Well… Penny and him had a bit of a fight and her brother got involved. He was here visiting. They were beating each other up. Nathanial is pretty pissed off and was all in a rage. Beta Luke got him settled for now, but we know he listens to you more.” Kinley explained.
“What was the fight about?” Sebastian let out a sigh.
“The usual. Penny not committing, Nathanial trying his best. He got angry because of that time he had invited her on a date, but half way through she wanted to leave.” Stacey shook her head. “Honestly, I do not know why Penny keeps stringing him along. I know it is a big change for her coming here, but honestly, he is her Mate! And her brother needs to keep out of the way. He was the main reason she wanted to leave, he interrupted their date back then. He came here for a visit, and caused more problems and she wanted to leave, to stop the issues.”
“Ok… can you get Nathanial to come here to me.” Sebastian asked thoughtfully. “And I want to know more about Penny and her brother. If you can… please dig around.”
“Onto it!” Kinley said with a smile.
“I’ll sort Nathanial out.” Maximus said with a nod.
“Thank you.” Sebastian said.
Nothing more was said between them, their reason for being there had been stated and a plan was in place. The room soon was silent as neither spoke, and it was clear that it was starting to get strange. With a slight clearing of the throat, Maximus made the first move, taking Stacey’s hand, and then headed to the door. Kinley gave a quick nod and followed the other two out. Alone again, Sebastian let out a big sigh and ran a hand through his hair.
As much as he wanted to return to the bed and hold Adira in his arms longer, he needed to wait. He knew he could trust those three to not say anything with him asking, but if he was to ask for Nathanial to come and see him, he did not want to be caught out, not with his other friend, not when Nathanial was dealing with his own mate stuff. Sebastian did not want to be that cruel to his friend. That being so, he grabbed the papers he had been going through before and sat himself on the sofa, making it seem like he was just sitting and over watching Adira.
When Nathanial arrived, Sebastian could see he had a bruised brow and the cut lip. He asked his friend if he was ok. Nathanial was a good guy. He could come off as an asshole from time to time, he could be quite harsh and get angry easily, but he was also a very logical. He was a good friend and never had let Sebastian down and so while Sebastian knew he had to figure out what was going on because he was meant to act like an Alpha in situations like this, he also wanted to be there and be a supportive friend.
They sat and talked for a good time and it seemed very much like Penny wanted to give things a try, but any time her brother came around, all things went down hill. Penny did not explain to Nathanial why her brother was always getting in the way, she always seemed to shy away from the topic. That gave Sebastian some alarm bells and it made him wonder more, what was the brothers deal in the matter. They knew she got angry with her at one time, burning her feet and speaking to her unkindly, but was that all there was? He hoped that the other three would find something out soon, so he could sort out the mater first hand.
After Nathanial left, it was getting late and Sebastian was in no mood to continue reading the documents. He let out a sigh and went to the bathroom, having a wash to freshen up and then returned to the room. He looked to the sofa and then back to the bed that Adira was laying on. He wanted so much to just hold her again, to keep her in his arms. Would it be ok? It would help her more then anything right? Making the choice, Sebastian moved to the bed, sitting up on it next to Adira. He was not ready to sleep just yet, so he sat there, back against the head board and looked over at the girl beside him.
He placed his own hand over hers, being as gentle as he could. He felt the tingle running through his own hand when he did and it made him feel happy, to know that when he did touch his skin on hers, he was feeling that bond more and more. She really was his mate and he could not be any happier about it. He knew things got dark, and that there would be a lot of things they needed to work out, and there was no telling how what happened was going to impact Adira. He was worried about that. He knew her life before coming to their pack was not easy and the thought of remembering the way that James vampire handled her made him feel anger. He knew, the way Adira did not trust people, ate alone, and did not like being touched was all because of what she went through in the past while living with the Vampires. What happened to her because of Julian… that was a lot worse.
How does one come through that?
Once again, he could not answer that. He knew the only way to answer, would be when Adira woke up and the best he could do for her, was help her through it. That was what his duty would be, as a mate, he would help her with it all, be there for her no matter what. He had to be understanding and reasoning with her. He just, needed her to wake up.
